The Critical Role Women Play
Polish Business to Mission Brazil The Critical Role Women Play 26–30 November 2012 Rio de Janeiro – Sao Paulo – Brasilia Participants: representatives of the Polish government, business community, research & development centres, financial institutions, academia, and think tanks Partners: Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brasilia, Trade and Investment Promotion Section, Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan, FIRJAN and FIESP LETTER from the Ambassador of Poland Over the last two decades, Poland has undergone an unprecedented economic transformation and has evolved into a country with an open, dynamic and stable economy as well as an educated, open-minded and resourceful society. Poland has become an attractive destination for entrepreneurs and investors. A robust economy and solid macroeconomic fundamentals have increased the profitability of foreign direct investments which have reached almost $200 bln since 1989. Strategic location at the heart of Europe, friendly and well-developed business environment, the size of the Polish market of 40 mln consumers, availability of highly qualified workforce, membership in the European Union since 2004 and direct access to the common European market of 500 mln people provide a solid foundation for Poland’s competitiveness and make it an attractive destination for investments in both regional and global perspectives. Poland is an exporter of capital and know-how. By 2011 Polish companies have completed FDI projects valued at almost $50 bln, mostly in Europe but also increasingly in non-European markets. This trend is expected to continue. Poland and Brazil share a long tradition of friendly relations. Recently we have celebrated the 90th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between our countries. Despite geographical distance, we share many commonalities. 20 years ago our countries embarked on the path of continuous economic reforms facilitating growth which has elevated their international standing. In recent years we have successfully organized two important economic events to encourage Polish and Brazilian businesses to explore new opportunities for cooperation. In 2009 Polish diplomatic missions in Brazil coordinated the Poland-Brazil Defence Industries Forum in partnership with FIESP and with the participation of the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Poland, Bogdan Klich. In 2010 the Maritime Industries Forum took place at ACRJ in Rio de Janeiro. We are convinced the time has come to undertake major bilateral projects sectors such as infrastructure and transport, marine industry, offshore exploration and production of oil and gas, chemical industry and mining. Joint research and development activities should also be initiated. On the occasion of the official visit of H.E. Radoslaw Sikorski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland to Brazil, I have the great pleasure to introduce to the Brazilian business community both Poland and Polish companies. I am convinced that Polish-Brazilian Economic Forum in Sao Paulo, organised jointly with FIESP and the Polish Confederation of Private Employers Lewiatan, as well as the Seminar on Energy, Marine and Offshore Sectors in Rio de Janeiro, organised in collaboration with FIRJAN will contribute to the development of Polish-Brazilian economic relations and result in joint undertaking of major projects. I believe that these events will strengthen the traditionally sound economic ties between the two nations. The cooperation between Poland and Brazil is now developing better than ever, but still a number of opportunities have not been explored and remain to be exploited. The Embassy of the Republic of Poland will continue its efforts to strengthen our valuable friendship.
