Alt-J to brytyjski alternatywny kwartet grający muzykę indie-rock. Zespół powstał w 2007 roku, kiedy
Gwil Sainsbury (gitarzysta/basista), Joe Newman (gitarzysta/wokal), Gus Unger-Hamilton (klawisze) i
Thom Green (perkusja) spotkali się na Leeds University.
Ich debiutancka płyta pt. „An Awesome Wave” została wydana w maju 2012 roku w
Europie (18 września w USA). Album zawiera liczne gatunki muzyczne (folk, rock bass, catchy pop, hiphop beats, trip-hop atmosphere, indie-rock quirkiness and electronic heavy synth riffs). Osobiste teksty
piosenek są usiane nawiązaniami do filmów i literatury. W 2012 roku zespół otrzymał prestiżową nagrodę
Mercury Prize za album „An Awesome Wave”.
