‘BRIDGES AND NOT WALLS’
which will be held on 17-18 November 2015
on the premises of Stanisław Staszic University of Applied Sciences in Piła, Poland
The seminar ‘BRIDGES AND NOT WALLS’, inaugurating the series ‘PHILOLOGICAL SEMINARS IN PIŁA’,
is devoted to exchanging experiences between researchers and teachers interested in modern
academic trends with reference to the fields represented by them. You are invited to prepare paper
presentations of 20 minutes (which will be followed by a discussion) or workshops of 45-minute
duration. One can also participate in the seminar without a paper.
As part of the seminar, we are planning to organise a separate workshop section for English
language teachers.
Seminar subjects:
SECTION 1: ‘HABENT SUA FATA LINGUAE’/ LANGUAGES HAVE THEIR FATES

Suggested topics:
 language diversification,
 language planning and policy,








survivability chances of natural languages in the global arena of natural languages,
language contacts,
vitality of natural languages,
communicative orders, diversification of communicative forms and environments,
status of the communicator,
communication in public space,
relations between language, culture and communication,
aesthetics of language and communication.
SECTION 2 : LANGUAGE EDUCATION: CONNECTING THE DOTS

 language for specific purposes,

 method eclecticism,
 multilingual learners,
 sociocognitive approaches,

SECTION 3: NEW TRENDS IN GERMAN LITERATURE AND LINGUISTICS - CONTEMPORARY
CHALLENGES TO TEACHING AND SCIENCE

• German language teaching: development and changes,
• experimental methods in the teaching of German culture, literature and linguistics,

Seminar fee: 350 PLN (Polish participants) / 100 EUR (participants from abroad)
The seminar fee includes the cost of refreshments at coffee breaks, 2 lunches, an official dinner,
seminar materials and the publication of selected papers in a peer reviewed monograph. The fee
does not include the cost of accommodation or travel.
IMPORTANT DATES:
25.09. 2015 - deadline for registration (please fill in the attached form and submit it to the following

30.09.2015 - notification of acceptance;
09.10. 2015 - deadline for the seminar fee payment; in the case of resignation after Oct. 16, 2015
the seminar fee cannot be returned for organisational reasons;
31. 10.2015 - announcement of the seminar programme.
