PREFACE
The major part of this special issue of Acta Physica Polonica A contains
selected contributions to the French-Polish Colloquium on Surface Physics, Malinka'92, which was organized by the Department of Solid State Physics of the
University of Lodz and held in Ruciane-Piaski, Poland, on September 17-24, 1992.
The contributions to the Colloquium provide a report on the research performed within the framework of the cooperation programme between France and
Poland, under Project "Physical and Chemical Properties Connected with the Local Order on the Surface" (ATP-II, C-17), headed by Prof. J. Rousseau and Prof.
L. Wojtczak. Some other selected papers, relevant to the surface physics and presented at the Colloquium, although completed beyond the scope of this Project,
have been also included thanks to the kind permission of their Authors.
We are grateful to the Editors of Acta Physica Polonica A for their kind
agreement to publish the present volume.
