2016-2017 Dear Parents and Guardians, As a requirement for the Title I grant, which funds the SOAR Reading Intervention Program, we are providing you with a Parent/Student/Teacher Compact. Please read the attached document, sign it, and send it back to your child’s classroom teacher within 3 days. We are happy to be working together to provide your child with the best education possible. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance! Respectfully, Mrs. Shelly Skarzynski Wood Dale Junior High Principal _____________________________________________________________________________ 655 NORTH WOOD DALE ROAD ● WOOD DALE, ILLINOIS 60191 ● 6307666210 ● FAX 6307666211 Wood Dale Junior High SOAR Program Parent-Student-Teacher Compact 2016-2017 School Year In an effort to improve student reading achievement during the school year, In District 7, we will: ● Hold a SOAR Family Orientation and Parent/Teacher Conferences. ● Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s academic achievement standards. ● Provide parents/guardians with reports on your child’s progress and resources to assist them. ● Provide parents/guardians reasonable access to staff. ● Provide parents/guardians opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s school and to observe classroom activities. As the Parent/Guardian, I will: (choose and circle 3) ● Attend a SOAR Family Orientation meeting with my child. ● Encourage my child to read independently on a daily basis. ● Limit television viewing and electronic game playing during the school week to no more than 2 hours a day (recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics). ● Check to see that my child’s daily homework is not only finished, but reflective of my child’s ability. ● Contact my child’s teachers or the SOAR teacher if I have a question about how to best assist my child to succeed. ● Provide a quiet study area for my child to complete school work. ● Ask my child “What did you learn in ____________ today?” As the Student, I will: (choose and circle 3) ● Attend a SOAR Family Orientation with my parent/guardian. ● Limit television viewing and electronic game playing during the school week to no more than 2 hours a day (recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics). ● Use my free time to read for fun (minimum of 1 hour per week). ● Ask questions when I don’t understand and participate in class. ● Share all of my schoolwork and school notes with my parent/guardian. ● Discuss what I am reading and learning about in school. ● Come to school prepared with my materials, homework completed to the best of my ability and a positive attitude. ● Participate positively in an extracurricular activity or club. As the SOAR Teacher, I will: ● Provide a SOAR Family Orientation as well as Parent/Teacher Conference times to discuss your child’s performance and future needs. ● Provide high quality instruction to your child. ● Provide all testing information and explain your child’s progress, when requested. ● Provide time to answer any questions you may have about an assignment or about how to assist your child. ● Articulate with your child’s classroom teachers to support their skills across content areas. Como el Padre/Guardián, yo voy a: (Elija y circule 3) ● Asistir a una reunión de Orientación de Familia de SOAR y Conferencia de Padre/Maestro con mi hijo/a. ● Animar a mi hijo/a a leer de forma independiente diariamente. ● Limitar el mirar la televisión y usar juegos electrónicos a no más de 2 horas al día durante la semana escolar (come es recomendado por la Academia Americana de Pediatrías). ● Revisar que la tarea de mi hijo/a este terminada, y que refleje las habilidades de mi hijo/a. ● Comunicarme con el maestro de mi hijo/a o su maestro de SOAR si tengo preguntas acerca de cómo mejor ayudar a mi hijo/a para que tenga éxito. ● Proporcionar una área de estudio tranquila para que mi hijo/a pueda estudiar y cumplir sus trabajos de la escuela. ● Preguntar a mi hijo ”qué has aprendido hoy en la escuela?” Como el Estudiante, yo voy a: (Elija y circule 3) ● Asistir a una reunión de Orientación de Familia de SOAR con mi padre/guardián. ● Limitar mi tiempo mirando televisión y usando juegos electrónicos a no más de 2 horas al día durante la semana escolar (come es recomendado por la Academia Americana de Pediatrías). ● Hacer uso de mi tiempo libre para leer como diversión (al mínimo 1 hora por semana). ● Hacer preguntas cuando no entiendo algo y participar en mis clases. ● Compartir mis trabajos escolares y notas con mi padre/guardián. ● Discutir lo que estoy leyendo y aprendiendo en la escuela. ● Llegar a la escuela preparado con mis materias, mi tarea completa a lo mejor de mi habilidad, y con una actitud positiva. ● Participar positivamente en actividades extracurriculares o clubs. Como Maestro de SOAR yo voy a: ● Proporcionar una Orientación de Familia de SOAR y también una Conferencia de Padre/Maestro para discutir el progreso y necesidades para el futuro de su hijo/a. ● Proveer instrucción de alta calidad para su hijo/a. ● Proveer toda información de exámenes y explicar el progreso de su hijo/a cuando sea solicitado. ● Proveer tiempo para responder a cualquier pregunta que pueda tener sobre una tarea o acerca de cómo ayudar a su hijo/a. ● Articular con los maestros de su hijo/a para apoyar a sus habilidades a través de las áreas de contenido.
