I
You usually imagine an artist with a brush in one hand and a palette in the other hand. Grant Sharman is
different. He can’t use his hands or feet. So Grant paints with his mouth. When Grant was young he was
good at Science and he wanted to be a pilot. His plans changed when he had a serious accident. He broke
his neck and lost the use of arms and legs. Before the accident Grant could paint but he wasn’t very good.
He needed to learn new techniques after the accident. But now Grant is very good at drawing and
painting. He is a professional artist and he can make money from his painting.

I
Jules Rimet was born in France in 1874. At school and university he was an excellent student. He liked
sport but he never played football. He preferred athletics.
After university he worked in business and for charities. Then, in 1914, he went to fight in the First World
War. After his experiences in war, he became a pacifist and had the idea for an international football
tournament.
In 1921 he became president of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), and three
years later he invited different nations to participate in the first World Cup. Thirteen teams played in the
first tournament in 1930.
In 1946 FIFA named the trophy The Jules Rimet World Cup to commemorate his 25 years as president.
Jules Rimet died at the age of 84 in 1956.
