GIVING TREE
Our annual "Giving Tree" Advent project begins this
week. We invite you to take a tag from the tree and purchase the gift indicated. We ask that all gifts be
left unwrapped. Attach the tag to the outside of the package and place the gift near the tree by Sunday, December
4th. The gifts will be distributed to homebound members
of the parish, Catholic residents of Belsky House (UCP),
homeless people served through CHIPS, and children
whose mothers are in prison. All gifts should be new and
unused. This project has been most successful in the past
and we are confident that our generous parishioners will
again respond with love and enthusiasm.
ST ROSE OF LIMA TREE LIGHTING
We will have our annual tree lighting on Saturday,
December 3rd. after the 5:00PM Mass. Please come join
us in a sense of community to commemorate this special
event. As usual, sweets and cider will be available for
your enjoyment.
SOCIETY OF SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL GIVES BACK
For each car, truck or van, running or not, The Society
of St. Vincent de Paul will give back to our church $100
per vehicle. Maybe you don’t have a vehicle, but a family

“YES” TO THE KING
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The Church crowns the year of grace, its liturgical
year, with the solemnity of Christ the King. We could
assume that a celebration of this magnitude would
provide us with an easy, clear presentation of who Christ
is and who he calls us to be. But this feast flings the
paradoxes of Christ’s kingship in our face. Is Christ allpowerful? Is he the Messiah, the Anointed of God? Is he a
victim, powerless in the hands of mortal rulers? Is he dead
on the cross? Is he alive in the splendor of eternal light? Is
the inscription above his head true? Is he Shepherd or
slaughtered lamb? The answer is “Yes.”
What may be even more difficult is that we have also
answered “Yes” to following this complex, paradoxical
King who reigns from the cross of death, who upsets our
expectations and challenges us to upset many of the
expectations of the world around us. But before we
despair of being able to sustain the difficulty of this
mission, we are also strengthened by Paul’s words to the
Colossians. We are reminded that if we keep our eyes
fixed on the cross, the throne of Christ, we will also find
and know the source of our reconciliation, our peace, and
our hope to join him, sharing the inheritance of the holy
ones in light everlasting.
Today we have a modern feast, less than a century old,
and placed at the very end of the liturgical cycle of
Sundays only in 1969. In 1925, the world was in a sorry
state from the vantage point of Pope Pius XI. The winds
of war had swept the map of Europe raw, and ancient
Christian dynasties had fallen in Russia and Spain.
Although the Great War had ended, wars were breaking
out everywhere. Fascism was already in control in Italy,
and Nazism was on the horizon for Germany. The
disorder making its claim on the human race was, the
pope felt, an insult to the Divine Order. Pius XI
designated the last Sunday in October as a day of
universal recognition of the kingship of Christ. Creating
this feast was an act of bravery by the pope, who was
standing up against idolatry of the state and the
dehumanizing forces of the modern world, things that are
not hard to detect in today’s world as well. In 1969 it
seemed fitting to move the feast to a place of honor at the
end of the year, a way of summing up the whole
movement of the liturgical year toward the perfection of
the Kingdom of God. In recent decades, many Protestant
churches have adopted this day from the new Roman
calendar, so it is shared now with the Church of England,
the Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches, and
others.

UROCZYSTOŚĆ CHRYSTURA KRÓLA
On jest obrazem Boga niewidzialnego - Pierworodnym
wobec każdego stworzenia, bo w Nim zostało wszystko
stworzone: i to, co w niebiosach, i to, co na ziemi, byty
widzialne i niewidzialne, czy Trony, czy Panowania, czy
Zwierzchności, czy Władze. Wszystko przez Niego i dla
Niego zostało stworzone. On jest przed wszystkim i
wszystko w Nim ma istnienie.
Kolosan 1:14-17
Gdy ukrzyżowano Jezusa, lud stał i patrzył. Lecz
członkowie Wysokiej Rady drwiąco mówili: Innych
wybawiał, niechże teraz siebie wybawi, jeśli On jest
Mesjaszem, Wybrańcem Bożym. Szydzili z Niego i
żołnierze; podchodzili do Niego i podawali Mu ocet,
mówiąc: Jeśli Ty jesteś królem żydowskim, wybaw sam
siebie. Był także nad Nim napis w języku greckim,
łacińskim i hebrajskim: To jest Król żydowski. Jeden ze
złoczyńców, których [tam] powieszono, urągał Mu: Czy
Ty nie jesteś Mesjaszem? Wybaw więc siebie i nas. Lecz
drugi, karcąc go, rzekł: Ty nawet Boga się nie boisz,
chociaż tę samą karę ponosisz? My przecież sprawiedliwie, odbieramy bowiem słuszną karę za nasze
uczynki, ale On nic złego nie uczynił. I dodał: Jezu,
wspomnij na mnie, gdy przyjdziesz do swego królestwa.
Jezus mu odpowiedział: Zaprawdę, powiadam ci: Dziś ze
Mną będziesz w raju.

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Jezus Chrystus króluje z krzyża, a nie z tronu; sposób
sprawowania przez Niego władzy różni się od tego, co
preferuje świat. Jego królestwo nie jest pełnym
materialnego przepychu mocarstwem – uobecnia się ono
w ludzkich duszach. Jest pośród nas, wszędzie tam, gdzie
obecna jest miłość i dobroć, sprawiedliwość, pokój
i prawda, gdzie ludzie żyją w zgodzie, pomagając sobie
nawzajem. Władza w tym królestwie nie polega na
dominacji, lecz na służbie, a ta nie szuka przywilejów, ale
dobra wspólnego i chwały Bożej.

UNCION DE LOS
Este sacramento se administra en la misa de 9:00am el primer
sabado de cada mes.
REINADO
El libro de Samuel nos relata la unción de David
como rey de Israel. Fueron los ancianos de Israel quienes
declararon a David como rey ese día, pero fue Dios quien
llamó a David para que pastoreara a Israel. Mandado así
por los ciudadanos de su reino y por el Señor, David
ocupó su lugar en un largo linaje de reyes.
El apóstol Pablo también nos habla de realeza, pero
en un plano muy superior: la realeza de Jesús nuestro
Señor. Tan grande como fue David, él y todos los reyes
terrenales anteriores y posteriores, en sus reinos, son
reyes menores en comparación con el verdadero Rey.
Finalmente, escuchamos el relato del verdadero Rey en,
tal vez, su momento más débil: cerca de la muerte,
colgando en una cruz, insultado por un criminal común y
por el mundo en su totalidad.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Las parejas deben de hacer una cita con el sacerdote 6 meses
antes del dia de su boda.
En la frontera entre México y EE.UU. (El Paso, TX)
hay una grandísima imagen de Cristo Rey con sus brazos
extendidos en bienvenida y sobre una cruz. En el
continente Americano encontramos imágenes de Cristo en
las montañas como Cristo Redentor en Brasil, o Cristo de
los Andes, entre Chile y Argentina, o el Cristo Rey en
Colombia; todos observando calladamente pesares y
progresos de sus pueblos y naciones. En toda
Latinoamérica se grita esperanzadamente “Viva Cristo
Rey”.
La iglesia universal honra a Cristo con el título de
Rey solo desde 1925, pero siempre tuvo la certeza que el
pobre Jesús de Nazaret es nuestro Maestro y Señor y,
contra Él no pueden las fuerzas del mal ni la injusticia.
Terminando el año litúrgico, es justo y necesario recordar
y festejar que Jesús reina para siempre.
En Latinoamérica y en todas partes donde la injusticia
parece dominar, Cristo Rey es continuo recuerdo de la
promesa divina; de la esperanza de un mundo mejor no
allá en el cielo sino aquí en la tierra renovada. Por eso
terminemos el año litúrgico gritando “Viva Cristo Rey”.
