celebrate the Rite of Acceptance - a ritual of the RCIA

into our faith at the Easter Vigil this year. At the 10:45
Mass, we will welcome Chanel Miller who will make a
profession of faith and will also be fully initiated into the
Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. As a parish community, we promise them our prayers and support in the

ABOUT TODAY’S SOLEMNITY
- CHRIST IS KING
On the final Sunday of the liturgical year we celebrate
the feast of Christ the King. It’s easy to understand today’s scriptures as events that happened long ago and far
away, or predictions that will come true somewhere, some
day. But they invite us to claim Christ as our King here
and now. Jesus’ words to Pilate in the Gospel remind us
that his kingdom transcends time and place. And the
prophecies from Daniel and Revelation give us reason to
be faithful to Christ our King right here and right now.
By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only
King over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. No
matter what nation we belong to or what language we
speak, he “has made us into a kingdom” (Revelation 1:6)
- one people united in love and peace for all eternity.

“YES” TO THE KING
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The Church crowns the year of grace, its liturgical
year, with the solemnity of Christ the King. We could
assume that a celebration of this magnitude would
provide us with an easy, clear presentation of who Christ
is and who he calls us to be. But this feast flings the
paradoxes of Christ’s kingship in our face. Is Christ allpowerful? Is he the Messiah, the Anointed of God? Is he a
victim, powerless in the hands of mortal rulers? Is he dead
on the cross? Is he alive in the splendor of eternal light? Is
the inscription above his head true? Is he Shepherd or
slaughtered lamb? The answer is “Yes.”
What may be even more difficult is that we have also
answered “Yes” to following this complex, paradoxical
King who reigns from the cross of death, who upsets our
expectations and challenges us to upset many of the
expectations of the world around us. But before we
despair of being able to sustain the difficulty of this
mission, we are also strengthened by Paul’s words to the
Colossians. We are reminded that if we keep our eyes
fixed on the cross, the throne of Christ, we will also find
and know the source of our reconciliation, our peace, and
our hope to join him, sharing the inheritance of the holy
ones in light everlasting.
Despite the fact that the feast of Christ the King was
established less than a century ago, it has already
undergone a shift in focus. When Pope Pius XI
established this feast in 1925, nationalism and fascism
were on the rise. The pope intended that it be a “vehicle
for spiritual teaching,” one that would recognize the
ultimate authority of Christ over all political and social
scheming. The last Sunday of October was chosen as the
date for the feast because of its proximity to the feast of
All Saints, those men and women who bore witness to
Christ’s reign in so many different ways.
The calendar reforms of 1969 moved the feast to the
last Sunday of the liturgical year. There, in the context of
November’s focus on the end times, Christ’s second
coming at the end of all time is highlighted. The threefold
cycle of readings also expands our imaginations in regard
to this feast. In this year’s Gospel, Christ stands before
Pilate, whose own power blinds him to the truth of the
Lord’s kingdom. In a world where oppression still holds
sway over too many people, this feast is somehow still as
timely as when Pope Pius XI first established it.

Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received.
Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that
feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.

Gdy ukrzyżowano Jezusa, lud stał i patrzył. Lecz

REKOLEKCJE
REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Król - to archaiczne słowo. Kojarzy nam się z bajkami
albo z lekcją historii, gdy trudno spamiętać
skomplikowane koligacje i daty kolejnych bitew. Jezus
jest innym Królem. Nie tylko nie zdobywa, ale nie
wybawia nawet sam siebie. Przyszedł, „aby dać
świadectwo prawdzie” (J 18,37). Kiedy zmęczeni naszym
zakłamaniem pragniemy wreszcie prawdziwego życia, On
uwalnia nas od wszelkiej ułudy grzechu. I wtedy jest
Królestwo. Trwa, niewidoczne dla reporterów i
komentatorów życia politycznego, bo nie jest z tego

HORARIO ESPECIAL PARA EL MES DE DICIEMBRE
En diciembre, la comunidad hispana tendrá varias
celebraciones tales como:
1. a partir del 3 de diciembre tendrémos las novenas a
nuestra Senora de Guadalupe en el Centro San Jose (atrás
de la iglesia). Esto comenzará a las 7PM con Rosario,
novena, santa misa y confesiones todos los dias, por 9
dias.
2. Padre Jose estará escuchando confesiones todos los
dias. Además, del 8 al 11 de diciembre, estará un
sacerdote mexicano tambien escuchando confessions.
3. El dia 11 de diciembre, tendrémos rosario, novena y
misa solemne en la iglesia de arriba a las 7PM.
Habrá mañanitas a las 12:30 de la madrugada..
4. El dia 12, habrá solemne misa y procesión a las
8:30PM. Esto estará seguido con recepción en el auditorio
de la escuela.
5. Al partir del 16 de diciembre, habrá posadas - novenas
de navidad, en el cento San Jose. Traiga sus niños para
cantarle y oirle al niño Jesus.
TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
En la frontera entre México y EE.UU. (El Paso, TX)
hay una grandísima imagen de Cristo Rey con sus brazos
extendidos en bienvenida y sobre una cruz. En el
continente Americano encontramos imágenes de Cristo en
las montañas como Cristo Redentor en Brasil, o Cristo de
los Andes, entre Chile y Argentina, o el Cristo Rey en
Colombia; todos observando calladamente pesares y
progresos de sus pueblos y naciones. En toda
Latinoamérica se grita esperanzadamente “Viva Cristo
Rey”.
La iglesia universal honra a Cristo con el título de
Rey solo desde 1925, pero siempre tuvo la certeza que el
pobre Jesús de Nazaret es nuestro Maestro y Señor y,
contra Él no pueden las fuerzas del mal ni la injusticia.
Terminando el año litúrgico, es justo y necesario recordar
y festejar que Jesús reina para siempre.
En Latinoamérica y en todas partes donde la injusticia
parece dominar, Cristo Rey es continuo recuerdo de la
promesa divina; de la esperanza de un mundo mejor no
allá en el cielo sino aquí en la tierra renovada. Por eso
terminemos el año litúrgico gritando “Viva Cristo Rey”.
