Second Sunday of Advent – December 6, 2015

Prepare the Way for the Lord
In the fifth year of the Babylonian exile around 583 BC, God raised the prophet Baruch, Jeremiah’s
secretary to speak to the Israelites about their sins. Hearing the words of the prophet Baruch, they
went into the depths of their hearts, wept, fasted and prayed for forgiveness. True to His steadfast
love, God forgave all their sins and consoled them.
God also consoled and blessed their land; Jerusalem and that is why in the first reading (Baruch
5:1-9) we see the consolation and blessing of Jerusalem. God promised to show the splendor of
Jerusalem to every nation under heaven and He gave her the name “Peace through integrity and
honor through steadfastness.” God also promised to flatten every high mountain, fill the valleys
and make the ground level for the Israelites to walk back home in safety under the glory of God.
We all are like the Israelites in our spiritual journey. We have remained unfaithful to God and as a
result, have fallen into the captivity of sin and death. When the prophets remind us of our sinfulness,
we feel very sorry and offer sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins. Before now, those sacrifices were
imperfect and incapable of perfect cleansing. A perfect victim was needed for a perfect sacrifice
and for this perfect sacrifice to take place, there must be an authentic and perfect preparation.
That is why in the gospel reading (Luke 3:1-6), John the Baptist appears as a fore-runner for this
perfect victim, calling on all to a baptism of repentance and urging them to prepare the way for the
Lord and make His paths straight. This is to enable all mankind see the salvation of God which is
going to be wrought through Jesus Christ. Jesus is coming to deliver us from captivity. The primary
place where the devil is holding us captive is in our hearts and the first way we ought to prepare
and make smooth for the Lord is the path to our hearts. As the psalmist says, when you listen to
His voice do not harden your heart.

Advent Penance will be held in our church on Dec. 17, 2015 at 7:30 PM.

Prostujcie ścieżki swojego życia
Dzisiaj, w drugą niedzielę Adwentu, wsłuchujmy się w nawoływanie Jana Chrzciciela, proroka
znad Jordan, . Prostujmy drogi swego życia, abyśmy mogli stać się uczestnikami zbawienia, które
przygotował nam Bóg.
"Prostujmy" nasze życie i zbliżajmy się do Boga . Ze słabościami będziemy mieć problem do końca
naszego życia. Miejmy odwagę zdecydowanie usunąć grzech z naszego serca. Każdy z nas ma do
wyrównania i wyprostowania jakies „zakręty” na swojej życiowej drodze. Przygotujmy się na
spotkanie z Jezusem w Jego Słowie i w Sakramentach Świętych.
„Przygotujcie drogę dla Pana" przez życie zgodne z wiarą, przez radosne oczekiwanie na spełnienie
Bożych obietnic, przez pełne nadziei zaufanie, że Pan przyjdzie do każdego z nas. On sam obdarzy
nas swoim błogosławieństwem.
Spowiedź Adwentowa będzie w naszym kosciele 17 grudnia o godz. 7:30 PM.
8 grudnia Uroczystość Niepokalanego Poczęcia jest swiętem obowiązkowym. Msza Święta po
polsku będzie o godz. 7:30 wieczorem.
Dekoracje na Boże Narodzenie: Na zewnątrz koscioła: 12 grudnia rano (szansa dla Panów
z Polskiej Szkoły); wewnątrz kościoła: 15 grudnia o 7:00 PM (nowi ochotnicy mile widziani).
Diecezjalny Podatek: 12/13 grudnia Druga Taca będzie przeznaczona na potrzeby Diecezji.
