EASTER SUNDAY COLLECTION FOR EDUCATIONAL
EXCELLENCE. With the steadily increasing enrollment in St.
Joseph School, especially in the lower grades, new technology and
new enthusiasm among the parents and parishioners has raised the
bar for an advanced curriculum. The second collection on Easter
Sunday is traditionally dedicated to Educational Excellence at St.
Joseph School. Unfortunately, a dollar sign is attached to all our
improvements, therefore I ask parents, parishioners, alumni,
visitors and friends to generously respond according to their means
to this Easter Sunday collection. May God bless your generosity.
Diocesan Obligations. The second collection on the first Sunday
of the month is normally assigned for Diocesan Obligations.
However, since there are several collections in the month of April,
the Parish Council suggested that you make your contribution
anytime during the month of April. Thank you and God bless you
for all that you do for the parish and the school.
SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS - March 21, 2010
Weekly $4664.40 (incl. $551.40 in loose money); Diocesan Obligations
$35; Fuel-$257; Catholic Relief Coll. $26. Stewardship Note: “I tell you,
Peter, before the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me.”
(Luke 22:34) This Holy Week let us reflect upon how often we deny that we know
Jesus by the ways that we decide to use our time, our talent and our treasure.
PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD’S
PASSION - March 28, 2010
Jesus, Remember Me. Our Lenten journey
of conversion has brought us to the holiest
week of the Church year. With palm branches
in hand we enter the holy city of Jerusalem,
proclaiming, “Blessed is He who comes in the
name of the Lord.” From this grand entrance
into the city, we follow the Lord Jesus as he shares his last meal
with his disciples, institutes the Eucharist, is arrested, betrayed and
crucified. The Lord’s forgiveness of the repentant thief reminds us
that reconciliation awaits those who put their faith in Christ. Let the
repentant thief’s words become our own this day: “Jesus,
remember me when you come into your kingdom.” (Luke 23:42)
PENITENTIAL SERVICE
This Monday, March 29, the Sacrament of Penance for all the
faithful of Saint Joseph Basilica will be held at 6 p.m. We
encourage and invite everyone to be reconciled with God and one
another and joyfully celebrate the resurrection of our Lord on
Easter Sunday. The presence of several priests from different
parishes will be available for your convenience. Confessions will
be heard in both English and Polish.
LITURGICAL SERVICES DURING HOLY WEEK
Holy Thursday. Mass and distribution of Communion at 7 a.m. for
those who cannot participate in the evening services.
Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7 pm (bilingual).
This sacred liturgy commemorates the
establishment of the sacrament of the Eucharist
and the Priesthood. We invite parishioners, all the
school children and their parents to participate in
the solemn liturgy. Rite of Reception of the Holy
Oils, Washing of the Feet of the twelve apostle representatives, and
procession on to the Repository will take place. It has been a
tradition to visit area Catholic churches during the evening to say
a prayer at the Repository. Keep this tradition on-going with your
children as a family. Our Basilica will be open until 10 p.m. for
your private prayers and reflection.
Good Friday. No morning Mass. __At 3 pm the
Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion will begin at
Saint Joseph Basilica with adoration of the relics
of the Holy Cross and distribution of
Communion. ___At 6:30 pm adoration services
at the Holy Sepulcher in the Basilica led by the
Sacred Heart Society and the choir, followed by the singing of
Gorzkie Zale. At 7:30 pm, reflection/adoration will take place in
the Polish language.
Reminder: Good Friday is a day of Fast and Abstinence, which means
only one full meatless meal and two light meals may be taken.
_Good Friday Collection for the Holy Land. The offering given
at the adoration of the Cross is designated for the Holy Land which
sustains various ministries and assists the Franciscan Friars in their
works and to preserve the Holy Land’s precious Christian
Community. Bishop McManus asks that you keep the people of
the Holy Land in your prayers, and that we join our fellow
Catholics in the United States in making a generous contribution to
nourish the faith in this land.

March 28, 2010 - 28 marzec 2010 r.
Holy Saturday. No Morning Mass. The Easter
Vigil will begin at 7 p.m. with the blessing of
new fire, paschal candle and water followed by
the Resurrection Liturgy. During this important
celebration the Basilica Choir, accompanied by
musical instruments, will assist the liturgy. Holy
Water will be available at the conclusion of the services and on
Easter Sunday. At the Easter Vigil, Dylan, Jacob, Joseph, and
Shaun Murphy will receive the sacraments of Baptism and the
First Eucharist; Kathleen Sealey and Carolyn Rocheleau will
receive the sacrament of Confirmation; and Dian Auger and Pawel
Surowaniec will receive the sacraments of Confirmation and First
Eucharist.
_Easter Sunday. The Resurrection Celebration
(bilingual) will take place at 6 a.m. with a
solemn procession from the Holy Sepulcher
followed by the Mass. We kindly ask all parish
organizations to take part in the services on this
most solemn day of the year. The 9:30 a.m.
Mass is the special children’s Mass and we invite all the parents
to participate with their children.
Swieconka. Traditional blessing of food will
take place on Holy Saturday in the school
cafeteria every half-hour from 9 a.m. to 12
noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. If anyone
wishes to have a priest bless the food at their
home, please call the rectory by Wednesday,
March 31.
Triduum. Something toa consider. During the first three days of
Holy Week, ready Easter clothes, prepare festal foods, clean the
house, beautify the yard. Late Holy Thursday afternoon, share
Lent’s final meal before the Lord’s Supper Mass. Pitcher, bowl,
and towel make a fitting centerpiece. On Good Friday, observe the
paschal fast from food–from TV and computer too! Then come to
Holy Saturday’s Vigil with mind clear, stomach empty, and heart
full of “holy anticipation” that bursts into living flame when the
new fire is kindled.
PARTNERS IN CHARITY
The collection for Partners in Charity on March 21st was $9747.
Special thank you to all the contributors. There is still a significant
number of people who have not returned their donation envelopes
or pledge cards. Contributions may still be made during the next
several weeks. – –Betty Sabaj and Carolyn Swierzbin, Co-chairs

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE DRE
To Parents. Please remember the Children’s Mass at 9:30 a.m.
on Palm Sunday. Mrs. Barbara Mazeika will conduct “Liturgy of

deeds–Jesus must be very happy. Keep up the good work.
