Magazyn języków: angielskiego i niemieckiego w II LO im. Krzysztofa Kamila Baczyńskiego w Świdniku. Opiekunowie: Jadwiga Kopniak, Dorota Stępniak, Renata Wójcik October 2009 OUR STUDENTS ON A PILGRIMAGE TO CZESTOCHOWA On the 26th of September all third classes went on a pilgrimage to Czestochowa. Our journey started very early, we set off at 6:30. Everybody was very tired, some of us countinued their interrupted dream, the rest made some conversation. The journey was quite long but teachers and priests didn’t let us get bored. One of the priest took a guitar with him and we started to sing some religious songs, later with the help of our class guitarist we sang some Polish classics. At 1p.m. we finally reached our destination – Jasna Góra. We had some time for each other and then started the longest day spent by most of us on praying. There was a concert, I am really sorry but I can’t say anything about it but in my opinion a good pilgrim is not a hungry pilgrim. Later there was Holy Mass outside the Cathedral with intention for passing this year Matura exam. Next we went to the Cathedral to pray on rosary and see The Holy Mother, but some of us chose to go for a meeting with a famous traveler Wojciech Cejrowski who gave a lecture in the Cathedral. At night there was the most important thing for us that night – the Way of the Cross on the cathedral walls. Everybody had a candle and it looked really amazing to see them flickering in the darkness. We returned to the bus tired but with new energy that gave us the time spent in that fascinating place. Michał Zabiegły, 3A GOLF TRIP TO WIERZCHOWISKA On the 28th of September class 2C went on a bicycle trip to a local golf course, located in the village of Wierzchowiska. Apart from members of our class, which includes thirty five students and our fantastic English teacher Dorota Stępniak, we were glad to go to Wierzchowiska with another two teachers from our school: Dorota Tatrzańska-Kmiecik and Anna Kuczyńska. The purpose of our small journey was to learn how to play golf. Arriving at our destination after a twenty-minute ride, we had a short lesson about different techniques of holding the club and then we were prepared and ready to start playing. Our instructor, whose name was Marcin, was a very helpful person, so anyone who had problems connected with hitting the golf ball properly could ask him for some useful hints. During the game, our class had lots of fun and some of our classmates seemed to have a hidden talent of playing golf. What is more, the instructor allowed us to watch two gentlemen playing on a separate course, so we had an opportunity to watch experienced players in action. When they ended one part of their game, we came back on our golf course . After few minutes we left Wierzchowiska satisfied and happy that we spent time in such an interesting and enjoyable way. We hope to go there at least one more time ! Karol Krajewski, 2C October 2009 1 LUBELSKI FESTIWAL NAUKI 2009 W ramach VI Lubelskiego Festiwalu Nauki klasa 3c wraz z wychowawczynią Jadwigą Kopniak i panią Agnieszką Żembrowską uczestniczyła 24 września 2009 r. w 2 prezentacjach multimedialnych. Działanie promieni UV obejmuje głównie skórę twarzy i grzbietów rąk, pozbawionej włosów skóry głowy u mężczyzn i w mniejszym stopniu podudzi u kobiet. Substancje te należące do wielu grup związków chemicznych (lipidy, kwasy owocowe, związki fenolowe, olejki eteryczne) wykazują wielokierunkowe działanie kosmetyczne, m. in.: chronią przed negatywnym wpływem promieniowania UV, wykazują aktywność przeciwstarzeniową, regulują koloryt skóry. Do znanych roślin, posiadających takie właściwości należą, m. in.: zielona herbata, soja, kurkuma. The second lecture was at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. We heard a presentation about USA trials: ”Crime Scene Investigation Meets Reality: How Scientific Evidence is Challenged in a US Criminal Trial". The lecture was made by Mr. Delaine R. October 2009 Swenson, an American lawyer. This lesson explained to our students the issues related to technology and its use in the Court Room. With the invention of greater technological means to collect and analize evidence the role of the scientist is becoming more important in modern criminal trials. The job of the trial attorney also is changing as the attorney has to develop the ability and expertise to present this evidence to the Judge and Jury, and when necessary challenge the legitimacy of this evidence. This leads to a situation where the combination of modern technology and older legal concepts have to be reconciled with the need for a fair trial in the criminal system. During the presentation we saw, through a short introductory lecture and then a demonstration, how a CSI expert would be subject to direct and cross examination in an American Adversarial Trial. The CSI process doesn't end with evidence collection and analysis as most often seen on television, it ends in court, where the scientist and their science are tested by the legal system. We had been convicted that reality is often a bit different than TV series that we can see on television. Everyone enjoyed it. Do składu reprezentującego Polskę mieli zaszczyt należeć: Eliza Sawa, Paulina Dudek (3f), Adam Radomski, Michał Żyśko (2a) oraz nasz nowo poznany kolega z Warszawy Bartosz Miłosz. Wszyscy wróciliśmy do Polski bogatsi o nowe przygody, znajomości i pełni zapału do nauki języków obcych. W imieniu wszystkim uczestników do wyjazdu zachęcały Paulina Dudek i Eliza Sawa, 3F. P.S. October 2009 3 ON EDUCATION… by Michał Zabiegły, 3A Education has always been important in people’s life. It gave and still gives people good status in society. It has changed a lot in human history. Even now new ideas on how to improve education appear. One of the ideas that has come out in 21st century is to start teaching children not like it happens now, at the age 7 or 6, but even younger. This idea has both its followers and opponents. Probably the greatest advantage of learning children at younger age is to find their talents very quickly. These kinds of studies are very popular in China. The faster you find kid’s gift, the faster you can start to develop it. It gives people opportunity to find their child’s talents and focus on them, and then maybe in future they will become another Einstein or Chopin. Another big advantage is that younger minds can absorb knowledge more easily. What you have learnt in your childhood will always stay in your mind. Then education of the child will become much easier, because teachers would focus on much more important things than a multiplication table that children would already know. Opponents say that education at young age will kill the best times of childhood such as playing games and having fun with friends. In their opinion, it’s good as it is now. They don’t want to make their children work so hard at such young age. ‘They will have enough work and problems in the future’ – they say. In their opinion, teaching children at young age would change them a lot – it will destroy their feelings. They will become more like robots than human beings. They will do everything automatically without asking themselves if it is right or wrong. They say that adults can use their children for their purpose because they are too young to recognize good or evil. Taking all into account, there are October 2009 people who think that it is a good idea to teach children at younger age because then they can choose the proper way of education for them. But there also opponents who say that such approach to education changes kids into machines without feeling and childish joy. In my opinion, the right way is somewhere between. It’s good to find a gift of your child but parents shouldn’t use children to achieve their own unfulfilled ambitions. Childhood is the best time in people’s lives and it shouldn’t be taken away. Parents should encourage their children to develop their gifts but not force them to do it. Unfortunately, they often forget about that. Idioms and phrases connected with school: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing – wiedzieć mało to rzecz niebezpieczna. Be in somebody`s good books – być dobrze ocenianym przez kogoś. Dip into a book – powierzchownie przejrzeć, przeczytać książkę. Make your mark – wyrabiać sobie pozycję. Hit the mark – trafić w sedno, osiągnąć cel. Take a leaf out of s.o.`s book – naśladować kogoś; brać z kogoś przykład. Knuckle down to one`s books ślęczeć nad książką. prepared by Olga Nowak, 2C 4 Co wypada wiedzieć o szkole sąsiada zza Odry? Some interesting facts about education in Britain Education is compulsory, but school is not, children are not required to attend school. They could be educated at home. • • • • • • • • • Obowiązek szkolny w Niemczech obejmuje dzieci od szóstego do osiemnastego roku życia, czyli trwa 12 lat. Uczęszczanie do szkół publicznych jest bezpłatne. Szkoła podstawowa (Grundschule) trwa 4 lata (poza Berlinem - tu trwa 6 lat) i każdy musi do niej uczęszczać. Przygotowała Sylwia Waliłko, 2C October 2009 All government-run schools, state schools, follow the same National Curriculum. The school year runs from September to July and is 39 weeks long. For many areas the year is divided into six terms. Some counties in England still follow the traditional three terms a year. The dates for school terms and holidays are decided by the local authority or the governing body of a school, or by the school itself for independent schools. The main school holidays are: Christmas- 2 weeks, Spring - 2 weeks , Summer - 6 weeks British children are required to attend school until they are 16 years old. In England, compulsory schooling currently ends on the last Friday in June during the academic year in which a pupil attains the age of 16. Current government proposals are to raise the age until which students must continue to receive some form of education or training to 18. This is expected to be phased in by 2015. At the age of 16, students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland take an examination called the GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education). Study of GSCE subjects begins at the start of Year 10 (age 14-15), and final examinations are then taken at the end of Year 11 (age 15-16). In Scotland, the equivalent of the GCSE is the Standard Grade. After completing the GCSE, some students leave school, others go onto technical college, whilst others continue at high school for two more years and take a further set of standardized exams, known as A levels, in three or four subjects. These exams determine whether a student is eligible for university. Wir danken dafur was Sie tun.
