Sunday Collection, June 21, 2015
Our most sincere thanks to all the volunteers that participated in the first Beer
Tasting this past Sunday, June 21st.
Also, we wish to thank all our parishioners and friends that attended in company of their families in this special event.
In the second collection today,
we are supporting Pope Francis
in his charitable works. The Peter’s Pence Collection is taken
up worldwide to support the most
disadvantaged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. This is an opportunity to join with our Holy Father, Pope
Francis, and be a witness of charity to our suffering brothers
and sisters. Please be generous in today’s collection.
Our parish will be sponsoring a
“Getting Started in Youth Ministry”
program starting on June 25th from
7:00 p.m.—9:00 p.m. classes will
meet every other week. For more
information please contact the rectory
during office hours.
Registrations for CCD 20152016 will begin on July 7. All
new and returning students
must register at the rectory during office hours. Classes meet
two Saturdays per month starting September 12 from 8:00 a.m.
to 10:00 a.m.

with a hemorrhage and raises
Jairus's daughter from death.
Background on the Gospel
Reading
For today's Gospel, we continue to read from the Gospel of
Mark. Last Sunday we heard about Jesus calming the storm, the first
of four miracles that Jesus performs in the vicinity of the Sea of Galilee. Each of these four miracle stories offers us a glimpse at Jesus'
power. This week we hear about the third and fourth miracles, skipping
the second miracle, the healing of a man from Gerasene who was
possessed by a demon.
Today's Gospel reports two stories of healing. One story tells
us about a father's great love for his dying daughter. The other story
tells us about a desperate woman who risks much as she seeks healing from Jesus. In each story, the request for healing is itself a courageous act of faith, and yet very different circumstances are represented by the lives of each suffering person.
Jairus is described as a synagogue official, a man of considerable standing in the Jewish community. Distraught over his daughter's poor health, he approaches Jesus and asks him to heal her. Although Mark doesn't provide many details, we can imagine that his
daughter has been ill for some time and that her condition is deteriorating.
As Jesus leaves with Jairus, Mark describes a second person who seeks healing from Jesus, a woman with a hemorrhage. This
woman secretly touches Jesus from behind and is immediately cured.
In response, Jesus turns and asks who touched him. Jesus' disciples,
always a little clueless in Mark's Gospel, help us envision the scene.
The crowds are pushing in on Jesus, and yet he, knowing that power
has gone out of him, asks who touched him. The woman could have
remained anonymous, yet at Jesus' question she steps forward and
acknowledges what she has done. Jesus responds by acknowledging
her as a model of faith and sends her away in peace.
At this point, we can imagine Jairus's impatience with Jesus;
his daughter is dying and Jesus hasn't helped him yet. As if to build a
sense of urgency, messengers suddenly arrive and confirm Jairus's
worst fear: his daughter has died. Jesus curiously ignores their message and reassures Jairus. When they arrive at Jairus's home, they
find family and friends mourning the girl's death. Jesus enters the room
of the dead girl, takes her by the hand, and instructs her to arise.
Jairus's faith in Jesus has not been in vain; his daughter is restored to
life.
The contrasts between Jairus and the woman with the hemorrhage are stark and revealing. One is a man, the other is a woman.
One is a public official, an important person in the community. The
other is a woman who has lost everything to find a cure to a condition
that separated her from the community. One approaches Jesus publicly. The other approaches Jesus secretly. Yet in each case, faith leads
them to seek out Jesus in their time of need.
The Gospel concludes with Jesus' instructions to remain
silent about this miracle. This is typical of Mark's Gospel and is sometimes referred to as the messianic secret. Repeatedly, those who wit-

ness Jesus' power and authority are instructed to not speak of what
they have witnessed. These instructions appear impossible to obey,
and it is difficult to understand the purpose of these instructions. But in
each case, they seem to emphasize the fact that each individual, including the reader of Mark's Gospel, must, in the end, make his or her
own judgment about Jesus' identity. Each individual must make his or
her own act of faith in affirming Jesus as God's Son.
Saint Peter and Saint Paul
Feast Day June 29
Peter and Paul are giants of the Church.
Both are apostles. Peter was very likely a
middle-aged man when Jesus called him. He
was a fisherman from Bethsaida, a village
near the Lake of Galilee. Perhaps he was
part of a fisherman's co-op with his brother
Andrew and friends James and John. At any
rate, Andrew introduced Peter to Jesus.
Jesus said, “You are Simon son of John; you are to be called Cephas,
meaning Rock.”
During the three years the apostles lived with Jesus, Peter
showed definite signs of leadership. He was often the spokesman for
the group. When Jesus asked, “Who do you say I am?” Peter replied,
“You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” It was Peter who objected to Jesus' stating that he was on his way to Jerusalem to suffer
and die. Peter is mentioned 195 times in the New Testament. He appears lovable, impetuous, practical, and sometimes weak under pressure. Jesus loved him dearly, even after Peter denied knowing him
during the passion
Peter became the leader in the early Church. According to
the Acts of the Apostles, he was the first to preach on Pentecost. He
arranged for the selection of Matthias to replace Judas. He worked the
first public miracle: curing the lame man at the temple gate. He welcomed the first person who was not Jewish into the Church. People
thought just his shadow passing by would cure them.
Peter was imprisoned three or four times. Finally, in Rome,
he was sentenced to death by crucifixion. Out of respect for his Master, Jesus, he asked the guard to fasten him to the cross upside down.
He was buried in an old Roman cemetery, probably where the basilica
of St. Peter is today. He is called the “Prince of the Apostles.” Two
letters in the Bible are said to be his.
Paul received the best education. Being a strict Jew, he
persecuted the Christians who were teaching strange new things. One
day on the way to Damascus to hunt for Christians, Paul met Jesus.
Paul became the greatest Christian missionary, preaching and founding churches. In the beginning Paul had difficulty convincing the Jewish Christians that non-Jews could be baptized and did not have to
follow Jewish rules. He finally won.
For about thirty years Paul traveled around the Roman Empire preaching about Christ and suffering. From his many letters that
are in the Bible and from the Acts of the Apostles, he seems to have
been affectionate, loyal, courageous, and dedicated. He was the right
man to build the bridge between Jewish religion of the Old Testament
and the Christianity of the New Testament. Paul was imprisoned and
finally beheaded outside of the walls of Rome.
This is a day of obligation Mass will be celebrated at 7:30
A.M. on Monday, June 29.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús pasó
de nuevo en la barca a la otra
orilla y se aglomeró junto a Él

jefes de la sinagoga, llamado
Jairo, y al verle, cae a sus pies,
y le suplica con insistencia
diciendo: «Mi hija está a punto de morir; ven, impón tus manos sobre
ella, para que se salve y viva». Y se fue con él. Le seguía un gran
gentío que le oprimía.
Entonces, una mujer que padecía flujo de sangre desde hacía doce
años, y que había sufrido mucho con muchos médicos y había gastado todos sus bienes sin provecho alguno, antes bien, yendo a peor,
habiendo oído lo que se decía de Jesús, se acercó por detrás entre
la gente y tocó su manto. Pues decía: «Si logro tocar aunque sólo
sea sus vestidos, me salvaré». Inmediatamente se le secó la fuente
de sangre y sintió en su cuerpo que quedaba sana del mal. Al instante, Jesús, dándose cuenta de la fuerza que había salido de Él, se
volvió entre la gente y decía: «¿Quién me ha tocado los vestidos?».
Sus discípulos le contestaron: «Estás viendo que la gente te oprime y
preguntas: ‘¿Quién me ha tocado?’». Pero Él miraba a su alrededor
para descubrir a la que lo había hecho. Entonces, la mujer, viendo lo
que le había sucedido, se acercó atemorizada y temblorosa, se postró ante Él y le contó toda la verdad. Él le dijo: «Hija, tu fe te ha salvado; vete en paz y queda curada de tu enfermedad».
(…) Llegan a la casa del jefe de la sinagoga y observa el alboroto,
unos que lloraban y otros que daban grandes alaridos. Entra y les
dice: «¿Por qué alborotáis y lloráis? La niña no ha muerto; está dormida». Y se burlaban de Él. Pero Él después de echar fuera a todos,
toma consigo al padre de la niña, a la madre y a los suyos, y entra
donde estaba la niña. Y tomando la mano de la niña, le dice: «Talitá
kum», que quiere decir: «Muchacha, a ti te digo, levántate». La muchacha se levantó al instante y se puso a andar, pues tenía doce
años. Quedaron fuera de sí, llenos de estupor. Y les insistió mucho
en que nadie lo supiera; y les dijo que le dieran a ella de comer.

San Pedro y San Pablo
Solemnidad: 29 de junio

Cada 29 de junio, en la solemnidad de San
Pedro y San Pablo, apóstoles, recordamos
a estos grandes testigos de Jesucristo y, a
la vez, hacemos una solemne confesión de
fe en la Iglesia una, santa, católica y apostólica. Ante todo es una fiesta de la catolicidad.
Pedro, el amigo frágil y apasionado de Jesús, es el hombre
elegido por Cristo para ser “la roca” de la Iglesia: “Tú eres Pedro y
sobre esta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia” ( Mt 16,16). Aceptó con humildad su misión hasta el final, hasta su muerte como mártir. Su tumba
en la Basílica de San Pedro en el Vaticano es meta de millones de
peregrinos que llegan de todo el mundo.
Pablo, el perseguidor de Cristianos que se convirtió en
Apóstol de los gentiles, es un modelo de ardoroso evangelizador para
todos los católicos porque después de encontrarse con Jesús en su
camino, se entregó sin reservas a la causa del Evangelio.
En la segunda colecta de hoy, estaremos ayudando al
papa Francisco en
sus obras de caridad. La Colecta
Peter’s Pence se realiza en el mundo entero para ayudar a los más
desfavorecidos: a las víctimas de la guerra, de la opresión y de los
desastres naturales. Esta es una oportunidad para unirnos con nuestro Santo Padre, el papa Francisco, y ser un testigo de la caridad para
nuestros hermanos y hermanas que sufren. Por favor, contribuya generosamente a la colecta de hoy.

Gdy Jezus przeprawił się z powrotem w łodzi na drugi brzeg, zebrał
się wielki tłum wokół Niego, a On był jeszcze nad jeziorem. Wtedy
przyszedł jeden z przełożonych synagogi, imieniem Jair. Gdy Go ujrzał, upadł Mu do nóg i prosił usilnie: Moja córeczka dogorywa, przyjdź
i połóż na nią ręce, aby ocalała i żyła. Poszedł więc z nim, a wielki
tłum szedł za Nim i zewsząd na Niego napierał. A pewna kobieta od
dwunastu lat cierpiała na upływ krwi. Wiele przecierpiała od różnych
lekarzy i całe swe mienie wydała, a nic jej nie pomogło, lecz miała się
jeszcze gorzej. Słyszała ona o Jezusie, więc przyszła od tyłu, między
tłumem, i dotknęła się Jego płaszcza. Mówiła bowiem: żebym się choć
Jego płaszcza dotknęła, a będę zdrowa. Zaraz też ustał jej krwotok i
poczuła w ciele, że jest uzdrowiona z dolegliwości. A Jezus natychmiast uświadomił sobie, że moc wyszła od Niego. Obrócił się w tłumie
i zapytał: Kto się dotknął mojego płaszcza? Odpowiedzieli Mu uczniowie: Widzisz, że tłum zewsząd Cię ściska, a pytasz: Kto się Mnie dotknął. On jednak rozglądał się, by ujrzeć tę, która to uczyniła. Wtedy
kobieta przyszła zalękniona i drżąca, gdyż wiedziała, co się z nią stało,
upadła przed Nim i wyznała Mu całą prawdę. On zaś rzekł do niej:
Córko, twoja wiara cię ocaliła, idź w pokoju i bądź uzdrowiona ze swej
dolegliwości! Gdy On jeszcze mówił, przyszli ludzie od przełożonego
synagogi i donieśli: Twoja córka umarła, czemu jeszcze trudzisz Nauczyciela? Lecz Jezus słysząc, co mówiono, rzekł przełożonemu synagogi: Nie bój się, wierz tylko! I nie pozwolił nikomu iść z sobą z wyjątkiem Piotra, Jakuba i Jana, brata Jakubowego. Tak przyszli do domu
przełożonego synagogi. Wobec zamieszania, płaczu i głośnego zawodzenia, wszedł i rzekł do nich: Czemu robicie zgiełk i płaczecie?
Dziecko nie umarło, tylko śpi. I wyśmiewali Go. Lecz On odsunął
wszystkich, wziął z sobą tylko ojca, matkę dziecka oraz tych, którzy z
Nim byli, i wszedł tam, gdzie dziecko leżało. Ująwszy dziewczynkę za
rękę, rzekł do niej: Talitha kum, to znaczy: Dziewczynko, mówię ci,

Święci Piotr i Paweł - książęta Kościoła
Kościół umieszcza w jednym dniu uroczystość św.
Pawła wraz ze św. Piotrem nie dlatego, aby równał
go w prymacie z pierwszym zastępcą Chrystusa.
Chodzi jedynie o podkreślenie, że obaj Apostołowie
byli współzałożycielami gminy chrześcijańskiej w
Rzymie, obaj w tym mieście oddali dla Chrystusa
życie swoje oraz że w Rzymie są ich relikwie i sanktuaria. Najwięcej jednak zaważyła na połączeniu
pamiątki obu Apostołów w jednym dniu opinia, dzisiaj uznawana za
mylną, że obaj Apostołowie ponieśli śmierć męczeńską tego samego
dnia. Już w roku 258 obchodzono święto obu Apostołów razem dnia
29 czerwca, tak na Zachodzie, jak też i na Wschodzie, co wskazywałoby na powszechne przekonanie, że był to dzień śmierci obu Apostołów. Taki bowiem był bardzo dawny zwyczaj, że święta liturgiczne
obchodzono w dniu śmierci męczenników, a potem także (od w. IV) wyznawców.
Właściwe imię Piotra to Szymon (Symeon). Pan Jezus zmienił mu imię
na Piotr przy pierwszym spotkaniu, gdyż miało ono symbolizować jego
przyszłe powołanie. Pochodził z Betsaidy, miejscowości położonej nad
Jeziorem Genezaret (Galilejskim). Był bratem św. Andrzeja, Apostoła,
który Szymona przyprowadził do Pana Jezusa niedługo po chrzcie w
rzece Jordan, jaki Chrystus Pan otrzymał z rąk Jana Chrzciciela (Mt
28 czerwca 2015 r.
10, 2; J 1, 41). To, że Chrystus Pan zetknął się z Andrzejem i Szymonem w pobliżu rzeki Jordan, wskazywałoby, że obaj bracia byli uczniami św. Jana (J 1, 40-42).
Św. Piotr poniósł śmierć męczeńską według podania na wzgórzu watykańskim. Miał być ukrzyżowany według świadectwa Orygenesa głową w dół na własną prośbę, gdyż czuł się niegodnym umierać na krzyżu jak Chrystus.
Św. Piotr zostawił dwa listy, które należą do ksiąg Pisma świętego
Nowego Testamentu. Dyktował je swojemu uczniowi Sylwanowi (1 P
5, 12). Wyróżniają się one niezwykłą plastyką i ekspresją. Jako
zwierzchnik Kościoła Piotr ma odwagę przestrzec wiernych przed zbyt
dowolnym tłumaczeniem pism Pawła Apostoła (2 P 3, 14-16).
W ikonografii św. Piotr ukazywany jest w stroju apostoła, jako biskup
lub papież w pontyfikalnych szatach. Od IV w. (medalion z brązu Watykan, mozaika w S. Clemente) ustalił się typ ikonograficzny św.
Piotra - szerokie rysy twarzy, łysina lub lok nad czołem, krótka, gęsta
broda. Od XII wieku przedstawiany jest jako siedzący na tronie. Atrybutami Księcia Apostołów są: anioł, kajdany, dwa klucze symbolizujące klucze Królestwa Bożego, kogut, odwrócony krzyż, księga, łódź,
zwój, pastorał, ryba, sieci, skała - stanowiące aluzje do wydarzeń w
jego życiu, tiara w rękach.
Święty Paweł Apostoł Paweł pochodził z Tarsu w Cylicji - Mała Azja
(Dz 21, 39; 22, 3). Urodził się jako obywatel rzymski, co dawało mu
pewne wyróżnienie i przywileje. W naglących wypadkach umiał z tego
korzystać (Dz 16, 35-40; 25, 11). Nie wiemy, jaką drogą Paweł to obywatelstwo otrzymał: być może, że całe miasto rodzinne cieszyło się
tym przywilejem; możliwe, że rodzina Apostoła nabyła lub po prostu
kupiła sobie ten przywilej, bowiem i tą drogą także można było otrzymać obywatelstwo rzymskie w owych czasach (Dz 22, 28).
Szaweł urodził się w Tarsie ok. 8 roku po narodzeniu Chrystusa
(niektórzy badacze podają czas między 5 a 10 rokiem). Jego rodzina
chlubiła się, że pochodziła z rodu Beniamina, co także i Paweł podkreślał z dumą (Rz 11, 1). Dlatego otrzymał imię Szaweł (spolszczona
wersja hebrajskiego Saul)
Ok. 67 (lub 66) roku Paweł poniósł śmierć męczeńską. Według bardzo
starożytnego podania św. Paweł miał ponieść śmierć od miecza (jako
obywatel rzymski). Nie jest znany dzień jego śmierci, za to dobrze
zachowano w pamięci miejsce jego męczeństwa: Aquae Silviae za
Bramą Ostyjską w Rzymie. Ciało Męczennika złożono najpierw w posiadłości św. Lucyny przy drodze Ostyjskiej. W roku 284 za czasów
prześladowania, wznieconego przez cesarza Waleriana, przeniesiono
relikwie Apostoła do katakumb, zwanych dzisiaj katakumbami św.
Sebastiana przy drodze Apijskiej. Być może na krótki czas spoczęły tu
także relikwie św. Piotra. Po edykcie cesarza Konstantyna Wielkiego
(313) ciało św. Piotra przeniesiono do Watykanu, a ciało św. Pawła na
miejsce jego męczeństwa, gdzie cesarz wystawił ku jego czci bazylikę
pod wezwaniem św. Pawła.
Paweł jest autorem 13 listów do gmin chrześcijańskich, włączonych do
ksiąg Nowego Testamentu. Jest patronem licznych zakonów, Awinionu, Berlina, Biecza, Frankfurtu nad Menem, Poznania, Rygi, Rzymu,
Saragossy oraz marynarzy, powroźników, tkaczy.
W czasie pontyfikatu papieża Benedykta XVI Kościół obchodził Rok
św. Pawła w związku z jubileuszem 2000 lat od narodzin Apostoła
Narodów (2008-2009).
W ikonografii przedstawiany jest w długiej tunice i płaszczu. Jego atrybutami są: baranek, koń, kość słoniowa, miecz.
