What is Eucharistic Adoration?
Understood simply, Eucharistic adoration is
adoring or honoring the Eucharistic presence
of Christ. In a deeper sense, it involves the
contemplation of the Mystery of Christ truly
present before us. It has been the consistent
belief of the Catholic Church from the very
beginning that the bread and wine consecrated
at Mass truly become the Body and Blood of Christ, and that,
this Eucharistic presence of Christ which begins at the moment
of consecration endures as long as the Eucharistic species subsist. Every Wednesday, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed in
our church after the 8am Mass. Can you spare some time to
spend with Jesus?

by constantly worrying about attaining ever more
material possessions? Yet, God tells us that only
the hand that is open to give can also be open to
receive His peace and joy. A heart or a hand

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL…do
all for the glory of God.
Our Catholic faith provides the
foundation of our lives here on earth
and offers us eternal rewards in
heaven. To ensure that our faith
community in the Archdiocese of
Chicago remains strong, Cardinal
George is appealing to members of
our Catholic family to support the 2009 Annual Catholic Appeal.
Hard times can isolate us or they can bring us together to give
glory to God. The Annual Catholic Appeal is one way of working
for the glory of God. It brings us out of isolation into community
with all those whom God loves.
The Archdiocese of Chicago conducts an annual campaign
(as is the case in most dioceses in the United States), to help
fund the work of its departments, agencies, ministries, offices
and other services. Without such campaigns, the training, ministry, education and administrative services provided by the Archdiocese would have to be funded almost totally through “taxing”
the parishes. While direct contributions made to annual appeals
do not come out of parish income, a higher tax would. This
would cripple parishes economically.
The Annual Catholic Appeal provides an opportunity to reflect
upon the fact that every Catholic is part of a local Church and of
the Universal Church. Every time we say the Creed, we reaffirm
the fact that we are members of the “One, Holy, Catholic and
Apostolic Church.” However, often people do not reflect on the
meaning of these words.
The Annual Catholic Appeal will begin on Sunday, February
22nd.
Since we are one community of believers, members of all parish communities throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago are
asked to give to this campaign.
St. Blaise, whose Feast Day, will be celebrated
on February 3rd, was a bishop in Armenia in the
early fourth century. Not much is known about
him, but there are many legends and stories that
tell us what the times were like. It was a time of
persecution for the Catholic Church. The Roman
empire was trying to get rid of the Christians.
Many faithful were martyred because they would
not give up their love and faith in Jesus Christ.
Saint Blaise received a message from God to
go into the hills to escape the persecution. The
Roman governor sent men to find him. While searching for St.
Blaise, the hunters discovered a cave that was full of sick, wild
animals. There was St. Blaise in the middle, healing the animals.
They captured him and took him back to the governor. Other
stories say that he cured a boy who had a fish bone stuck in his
throat and was choking to death. It is because of this miraculous
healing that he is considered to be the patron of throat ailments.
After suffering various forms of torture, St. Blaise was beheaded

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
1st Reading: Dt 18:15:20
“”the Lord said to me,’:I will raise up for
them a prophet like you from among their
kin, and will put my words into his mouth;
he shall tell them all that I have commanded him.”
The word ‘deuteronomy’ means second law - in other words, the
Jewish law as it is applied and adapted to new situations in its
ongoing history. This meant leaders and prophets who would
step into Moses’ shoes and do his job. In this reading God
makes this promise to the Israelites: he will continue to raise up
true prophets to speak his word giving direction and guidance to
his people.
2nd Reading: 1 Corinthians, 7:32-35
“Brothers and sisters: I should like you to be free of anxieties...I
am telling you this for your own benefit, not to impose a restraint
upon you, but for the sake of propriety and adherence to the
Lord without distraction.”
One’s marital status should not get in the way of doing God’s
work. Although Paul seems to be encouraging Christ’s followers
to practice virginity and celibacy (fewer worldly distractions) as a
lifestyle, we are challenged to explain how the Gospel message
can be incorporated and lived by married people.
Gospel: Mark 1:1-14-20
“The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out
of him. All were amazed and asked one another. ’What is this?’
A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean
spirits and they obey him.’”
It’s interesting that Christ’s public ministry here begins with an
exorcism. St. Mark’s Gospel, much of which is thought to be
passed on to him from Peter himself, oftentimes faces-down
good vs. evil. The evil spirit seems to know who Jesus is and
expects this confrontation, which Our Lord wins time and again.
He is able here to overcome evil—and later able to heal the sick
because Jesus has authority which comes directly from the Father since he is the “Holy One of God.”

En aquel tiempo, Jesús y sus discípulos entraron en Cafarnaún, y cuando el sábado siguiente
fue a la Sinagoga a enseñar, se quedaron
asombrados de su enseñanza, porque no enseñaba como los letrados, sino con autoridad. Estaba precisamente en la sinagoga un hombre
que tenía un espíritu inmundo, y se puso a gritar: ¿Qué quieres de nosotros, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido a acabar con nosotros? Sé
quien eres: el Santo de Dios. Jesús le increpó:-Cállate y sal de él. El espíritu inmundo lo retorció y, dando un grito muy fuerte, salió. Todos se
preguntaron estupefactos: ¿Qué es esto? Este
enseñar con autoridad es nuevo. Hasta los espíritus inmundos les manda y le obedecen. Su
fama se extendió enseguida por todas partes,
alcanzando la comarca entera de Galilea.

Campaña Católica Anual 2009
Esta semana se le pedirá que lea el folleto de la Campaña
Católica Anual que usted recibirá junto con el boletín. El
tema de la Campaña es: “Haced todo por la gloria de
Dios”. (1 Cor. 10:31)
La Campaña Católica Anual es muy diferente a una recaudación especial única. Se trata de una Campaña en la
que usted puede hacer un donativo pagadero a más de
cinco meses.
Un donativo importante a la Campaña Católica Anual
influirá de manera positiva en las vidas de muchas personas. La Campaña Católica Anual representa una porción
significativa del presupuesto de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago. La mayoría de loas diócesis del país realizan una
Campaña Anual como ayuda para los costos de la prestación de servicios y de los programas de sus parroquias. La
Arquidiócesis de Chicago no es la excepción.
Cuando revise los trabajos que son posibles gracias a su
aportación a la Campaña Católica Anual, reflexione en las
bendiciones que Dios le ha dado. Los donativos para
nuestra parroquia, la Arquidiócesis y las actividades de la
Iglesia en todo el mundo se hacen con gratitud por todo
los que Dios le ha dado.
En ocasiones es difícil imaginar cómo puede ayudar su
donativo a una organización con la dimensión de nuestra
Arquidiócesis, cómo puede marcar una diferencia. Pero
cada donativo marca una diferencia, porque todas las parroquias participan en la Campaña y los donativos de muchos permiten que la Arquidiócesis ofrezca los ministerios y servicios necesarios.
La suma de los donativos no sólo es una muestra de gratitud a Dios, con ellos se glorifica a Dios haciendo posibles
las actividades de la Arquidiócesis.
Si usted recibió la petición de compromiso por correo,
tráigala a misa el día 22 de Febrero. Si algunos de ustedes
no reciben la misiva o no han tenido tiempo de contestarla, realizaremos nuestro proceso de petición de donativos
en las bancas el día 22 de Febrero.

W mieście Kafarnaum Jezus w szabat wszedł do synagogi i nauczał. Zdumiewali się Jego nauką: uczył
ich bowiem jak ten, który ma władzę, a nie jak uczeni w Piśmie. Był właśnie w synagodze człowiek
opętany przez ducha nieczystego. Zaczął on wołać:
Czego chcesz od nas, Jezusie Nazarejczyku? Przyszedłeś nas zgubić. Wiem, kto jesteś: Święty Boży.
Lecz Jezus rozkazał mu surowo: Milcz i wyjdź z
niego. Wtedy duch nieczysty zaczął go targać i z
głośnym krzykiem wyszedł z niego. A wszyscy się
zdumieli, tak że jeden drugiego pytał: Co to jest?
Nowa jakaś nauka z mocą. Nawet duchom nieczystym rozkazuje i są Mu posłuszne. I wnet rozeszła
się wieść o Nim wszędzie po całej okolicznej krainie
galilejskiej.

Masza święta w Ofiarowanie
Dnia 2 lutego w poniedziałek przypada Święto Ofiarowania Jezusa w świątyni. Zapraszamy na Mszę świętą w
języku polskim o godzinie 8:00 PM. Nie zapomnijmy
przynieść świece (gromnice).
OFIAROWANIE PAŃSKIE
2 lutego
Uroczystość Ofiarowania Pańskiego przypada czterdziestego dnia po Bożym Narodzeniu. Jest to pamiątka ofiarowania Pana Jezusa w świątyni jerozolimskiej i dokonania
przez Matkę Bożą obrzędu oczyszczenia.
Święto Ofiarowania jest związane z tajemnicą Narodzenia Pańskiego i dlatego jeszcze dziś wolno
śpiewać kolędy.
W Polsce święto Ofiarowania Pana Jezusa nabrało charakteru wybitnie maryjnego. Polacy widzą w Maryi tę, która
sprowadziła na ziemię niebiańskie Światło i która nas tym
Światłem broni i osłania od wszelkiego zła. Dlatego często
brano do ręki gromnice, zwłaszcza w niebezpieczeństwach
wielkich klęsk i grożącej śmierci. Niegdyś wielkim wrogiem
domów w Polsce były burze, a zwłaszcza pioruny, które
zapalały i niszczyły głównie drewniane domostwa. Właśnie
od nich miała strzec domy świeca poświęcona w święto
Ofiarowania Chrystusa. Zwykle była ona pięknie przystrajana i malowana. W czasie burzy zapalano ją i stawiano w
oknach, by prosić Maryję o ochronę. Gromnicę wręczano
również konającym, aby ochronić ich przed napaścią złych
duchów.
Ze świętem Matki Bożej Gromnicznej kończy się w Polsce
okres śpiewania kolęd, trzymania żłóbków i choinek - kończy się tradycyjny (a nie liturgiczny - ten skończył się świętem Chrztu Pańskiego) okres Bożego Narodzenia. Dzisiejsze święto zamyka więc cykl uroczystości związanych z
objawieniem się światu Słowa Wcielonego. Liturgia po raz
ostatni w tym roku ukazuje nam Chrystusa-Dziecię.

“…CZYŃCIE WSZYSTKO NA CHWAŁĘ PANA .” (1

Wielu parafian już otrzymało bądź wkrótce otrzyma korespondencję pocztową od Kardynała Georga. Zwraca się
on z prośbą o ofiarowanie datków na Doroczną Kwestę
Katolicką w roku 2009.
Kwesta nie tylko finansuje działania Archidiecezji, ale
finansuje także posługi wspierające pracę duchownych w
parafii którzy otrzymali szkolenie lub inne formy wsparcia.
W tym roku tematem Kwesty jest “…czyńcie wszystko
na chwałę Pana”. Wszystko co robimy żyjąc zgodnie z
wiarą wychwala Pana. Nasze datki na parafię i Archidiecezję zwielokrotniają cześć jaką oddajemy Bogu umożliwiając duszpasterzom wpłynąć na życie tysięcy osób.
Znaczny datek na program w pozytywny sposób wpłynie
na życie innych. Doroczna Kwesta Katolicka zapewnia
znaczącą część Budżetu Archidiecezji Chicago. Większość diecezji w kraju przeprowadza doroczne kwesty
wspierające wydatki na posługi i programy dla parafii i
wiernych. Archidiecezja Chicago nie jest tu żadnym wyjątkiem.
Nasze połączone datki nie tylko podkreślają twoją
wdzięczność dla Boga, ale też wychwalają go poprzez
umożliwienie pracy naszej Archidiecezji.
Jeśli otrzymałeś formularz datku pocztą, przynieś na
Mszę św. w dniu 22 lutego. Dla tych, którzy nie otrzymali
korespondencji lub nie mieli czasu odpowiedzieć, przeprowadzimy zbiórkę w trakcie Mszy św. w najbliższy
dnia 22 lutego.
Rozważcie w modlitwie datki na Doroczną Kwestę Katolicką w roku 2009.
Pierwszy Piątek
W tym tygodniu przypada pierwszy piątek
miesiąca. Odwiedziny chorych jak zwykle
od godz. 9-tej rano. Zapraszamy na Mszę
św. pierwszopiątkową o godz. 7:00 wieczorem. Przed Mszą św. możliwość spowiedzi.
Osoby zapisane do naszej parafii mogą uzyskać
informację o ofiarach złożonych w roku 2008 na
naszą parafię, w ten sposób będzie można odpisać tę kwotę od podatku.
Parafia Matki Bożej Częstochowskiej
Kurs przed Chrztem dziecka
Przypominamy, że w każdą trzecią niedzielę miesiąca w naszej
parafii po Mszy św. o godz.
10.30 odbywa się kurs przygotowujący rodziców i chrzestnych
do chrztu dziecka.
Osoby zamierzające ochrzcić
dziecko w naszej parafii są proszone o zgłoszenie się na ten
kurs prze chrztem dziecka. Dlatego należy pamiętać, aby:
► zgłosić się do kancelarii parafialnej przynajmniej
półtora miesiąca prze chrztem. (Aby uczestniczyć w
kursie przygotowującym)
► Przy zapisaniu chrztu jest wymagany akt urodzenia
dziecka.
U Pana Andrzeja przy wyjściu z kościoła
można zakupić duże świece (gromnice).
