The face of Malbork’s town centre underwent a change in 2009.
At ul. Kościuszki there appeared a Town Square with a fountain, which is an
illusion to mediaeval history forms – the shape of a knight’s shield and swords.

Castle Museum
information
At Malbork Castle Museum visitors can see permanent exhibitions, including rich
collections of amber objects, military items and Gothic sculptures, as well as several
temporary exhibitions. It is visited each year by more than half a million tourists from
all over the world. The Museum also conducts educational activities, teaching children
through fun activities, and older pupils through active lessons. An interesting, unconventional
and original way of learning about the castle and its history is through historical games, combined
with drama and film workshops or knights’ tournaments. In the summer season visitors can see the
“Light and Sound” performance. In autumn, winter and spring evenings one can discover new charms of the
castle, taking a guided tour by night and admiring the castle In its night-time illuminations.

Monument
of King Jagiellończyk
In October 2010 a bronze monument
to King Casimir Jagiellon (Kazimierz
Jagiellończyk) was erected on the
promenade in Malbork. The monument
to the Polish king, whose triumphant entry
to Malbork in 1457 began the ‘Polish time’
which lasted 315 lat years, is intended
to remind everyone of the Polish history
of our town. The monument is 348 cm
tall and made entirely of bronze.
The town square
and fountain
The square serves as a venue for numerous
exhibitions, processions, fairs and street theatre
shows, which make visitors’ stay in the town more
attractive. The main attraction here is undoubtedly
the town fountain, where water from almost 50
nozzles “dances” in time to specially chosen music.
Daily shows, particularly those in the evening, made
more spectacular by light effects, draw hundreds of
interested spectators in the summer season.

Coins
Recently, new elements of small-scale
architecture have appeared in Malbork
– three aluminium coins mounted on
specially prepared stones. The presentation
of coins commemorates the fact that from
the 15th century there was a mint operating
in Malbork five times, which twice issued
crusader coins, twice Polish and once
Lithuanian. The coins are single-sided,
showing the obverse and reverse of
a Konrad von Jungingen shilling and
the obverse of a Stefan Batory shilling.

climate of the town, which was the biggest Mediaeval European fortress and active
entertainment and education activities. Related to which happened 600 years ago,
when the victorious army of king Władysław Jagiełło set off from Grunwald towards
the Teutonic Order castle. At this time of year, Polish and foreign knight frats arrive
to Malbork. There are 350 of them. All of them take part in a historical staging
presenting the siege of the castle. Numerous attractions in the castle area makes

Tourist train
This remarkable vehicle, consisting of
a locomotive and two carriages, travels
on the streets of Malbork between
1 June and 30 September, starting at
9 am. It makes it easier for travellers to
see the town, and provides an
unforgettable experience. The route
takes in attractions of the town such
as Malbork Castle, the town’s mediaeval
buildings, the dancing fountain and
a scale model of the castle. The train
serves both individual passengers and
organized groups, and is fully adapted
for disabled passengers. There is a stop
for embarking and alighting at
ul. Starościńska (next to the Castle
Museum ticket offices).

Marianek
MARIANEK is the official mascot
designed by a resident of the town.
The little armoured knight with
cape and red cheeks was the
winner of a competition run
by Malbork Welcome Center.
The mascot is present at all events
organized by the town of Malbork,
encouraging residents and tourists
to join in the fun.
Model of Malbork Castle
A great place to take a souvenir photo of your visit
to Malbork.
This model is made of more than a million specially
baked bricks. With a base measuring 11 x 5 metres,
and built to a scale of 1:30, the model attracts both
tourists and residents of the town. This is one of the
features characterising of the modern pedestrian
precinct. It lets you see close-up how the Teutonic
castle looked before the damage it suffered during
the Second World War.
