BACKGROUND TO THE GOSPEL
In the pre-scientific age of Jesus' time, all illnesses
were understood to be manifestations of evil and
sinfulness. Our modern understanding of illness is
very different. Possession by unclean spirits may
have been a way to describe what we might call
mental illness today. It may have even been a way of
describing certain kinds of physical conditions. There
is evidence that there were many kinds of exorcists
and healers in first-century Palestine. Jesus appears to
be like these healers, but he heals with unique
authority and connects his healing activities with the
words of his preaching. We are missing the point that
Mark is trying to make in this Gospel, however, if we
try to explain away the healing work of Jesus. The
crowds see in Jesus' cure of the possessed man
further affirmation of his authority. Jesus' power to
heal gives greater credence to his teaching. Jesus
impresses the crowds through his words, which are
manifested with power in his deeds. Mark's Gospel
tells us that because of the authority with which he
healed, Jesus' fame spread throughout all of Galilee.

FAMILY CONNECTION
The people who heard Jesus teach and saw him heal
in today's Gospel were said to have been astonished
and amazed by the authority of his teaching. So
compelling were Jesus' words and actions that the
news about him could not be contained; it spread
quickly throughout all of Galilee. Two thousand
years later, the news about Jesus continues to spread.
We are called to participate in sharing the Good
News of Jesus with others in our words and in our
deeds. (Loyola Press)

2015 Catholic Ministries Appeal
Parish Goal $41,000
CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL
We are starting the 2015 Catholic Ministries Appeal
here in our parish and in many parishes across our
Diocese. Please prayerfully reflect upon the graces
and blessings God has bestowed on you and your
loved ones and consider what size gift you can offer to
the Catholic Ministries Appeal in thanksgiving and
charity. The decision you make is between you and
God. Through prayer and reflection, you will come to
a meaningful response. There are many ways to give
financially:
quarterly pledges, pledges over ten
months or a one time gift. Some people prefer to
make their donation via credit card, which enables
them to benefit from the various mileage or cash back
programs their credit card company may offer. Our
goal for the appeal this year is $41,000. Every gift
makes a difference. There are brochures in the
vestibule of the church. You can use the envelope you
received in the mail to make your gift or you may take
the material in the vestibule of the church. While this
is our parish, our spiritual home, we are part of a much
larger, Universal Church family. Acting together as
members of one family united in Christ’s love we
have the opportunity to Serve God by Serving Others.
Thank you for your spiritual and financial gifts to our
parish. I pray that God will continue to bless you in
all that you do.
Sincerely, Father Marian
GŁOSIĆ Z RADOŚCIĄ EWANGELIĘ O
RODZINIE
Pamiętamy także o osobach żyjących w powtórnych
związkach i o tych, którzy z różnych powodów
odrzucają sakrament małżeństwa. Ojciec Święty
Franciszek przypomniał bardzo wyraźnie, że Kościół
nigdy nie potępia człowieka, ale stanowczo piętnuje
grzech, który stoi na przeszkodzie do szczęścia
ludzkiego. Wszyscy jako Kościół – biskupi, kapłani,
osoby konsekrowane i świeccy, a zwłaszcza rodziny,
mamy towarzyszyć osobom zagubionym w ich
powrocie do Boga.
Pamiętajmy, że obowiązek ewangelizacji spoczywa
na każdym z nas zgodnie z własnym charyzmatem i
powołaniem. Głosić Ewangelię rodziny to dawać
radość i nadzieję, to przekazywać miłość, którą
żyjemy w rodzinie, to być blisko tych, którzy
najbardziej potrzebują naszej obecności, wyciągniętej
ręki i dobrego słowa.
Każda rodzina potrzebuje siły duchowej, aby
przeciwstawić się różnym prądom usiłującym
zniszczyć jej istotę i odebrać jej radość Ewangelii.
Taką siłę daje modlitwa rodzinna. To wspólne wołanie
do Boga, który jest naszym Ojcem, pozwala odkryć
głębię miłości złożonej w ręce ludzi. Dziś jednak nie
wystarczy sama tylko modlitwa. Rodzice, wspólnoty
parafialne, ruchy katolickie i stowarzyszenia muszą
