Spiritual Reflection
SPÓJRZ NA NIEBO
The Lord God took Abram outside and said,
“Look up at the sky and count the stars, if you
can. Just so,” he added, “shall your descendants
be.” We can only iamgine how these words
affected Abram, someone who yearned for a
child his whole life long but believed he was beyond the
age to have a child. Abram came to see that nothing was
impossible with God. His name was changed to
Abraham, meaning “father of many.”
Even more spectacular was Jesus’ appearance to Peter,
John and James. Jesus appeared with clothing that was
dazzling white and was conversing with Moses and
Elijah. It was so important in evangelizing, drawing
many closer to God and faith, that they see Jesus as the
fulfillment of the law and a prophet even more
important than Elijah and the other prophets people
would be familiar with.
We can only imagine that Abram and Jesus’ disciples
would be overwhelmed with what they heard and saw.
They would likely be ready to stop their lives and
simply enjoy the news they heard. Peter, John and James
even offered to build three tents on the side, for Jesus,
Moses and Elijah. The words of our Psalm response,
“The Lord is my light and my salvation”, truly come
alive for them!
In our second reading, we hear, “Join with others in
being imitators of me, brothers and sisters, and observe
those who thus conduct themselves according to the
model you have in us.” We are warned against
following the values of the world we live in, but living
values worthy of children of God. Our example needs to
lead us into God’s kingdom.
Ale obietnice te się wypełniły. Innym rodzajem
Jesus lets his disciples know, in now uncertain terms,
that they must come down from the mountain again.
They’ll need all the encouragement and strong faith that
came from what they had seen and heard in order to help
others to believe as well.
Świadkami cudu Przemienienia byli trzej
uczniowie najbardziej uprzywilejowani: Piotr, Jan
i Jakub.
nadejdzie czas męki, gdy On będzie konał na
krzyżu, a oni uciekną opanowani strachem.
Chrystus chciał, by w takich ciężkich chwilach,
które nadejdą, przypomnieli sobie tę wspaniałą
chwilę Przemienienia, aby to im pomogło
uwierzyć w Jego zmartwychwstanie.
During this Holy Season, our practices of prayer, fasting
and almsgiving can lead us closer to God. We can think
of intimate experiences of God that we have enjoyed.
We can share our deepened faith with those around us as
Jesus’ disciples are called to do. This week we can
remember the Lord’s call and do all we can to follow it
and lead others closer to God. Have a good week!
nawet trudności i cierpienia można pokonać, jeśli
się ma przed oczyma jakiś wspaniały obraz
przyszłości—tak jak w dniach męki Chrystusa,
której cząstkę On im odsłonił na Górze
Przemienienia.

Throughout the entire Lenten season,
we will be praying
the STATIONS OF THE CROSS every Friday.
The Stations of the Cross in English will be held
at 6:00 PM, whereas the Stations of the Cross
in Polish will be held at 7:00 PM.
We invite all parishioners to attend these
meditative prayers focusing on
the suffering and passion of Christ.
Serdecznie zapraszamy wszystkich parafian do wzięcia
udziału w nabożeństwach Wielkiego Postu.
W każdy piątek Wielkiego Postu będzie odprawiona
Droga Krzyżowa w języku polskim
o godz. 7:00 wieczorem, a o godz. 6:00 po angielsku.
GORZKIE ŻALE w języku polskim
będą odprawiane w każdą niedzielę o godz 5:30
(pół godziny przed wieczorną Mszą świętą).
Lent began with Ash Wednesday. As part of our
community’s observance of Lent, we ask all families to
participate in Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice
Bowl, a program of prayer, fasting, learning, and giving.
Please be sure to take home a Rice Bowl packet and
follow this simple yet powerful Lenten Practice.
Jesus’ transfiguration was a moment of hope for the
disciples, giving them the strength to endure the future
sacrifices they would make as they formed the early
Church. As we continue our journey with Catholic Relief
Services’ Operation Rice Bowl, let us be mindful that our
Lenten sacrifices help to give hope to our brothers and
sisters in need.

It is good that we are here… continue welcoming Catholics home
Today’s Gospel story (Lk 9:28-36) would make a dramatic movie scene! Jesus’ friends
are dozing off up on a mountain until they see Jesus
completely transformed. At this, Peter, James and John
become “fully awake” and they proclaim, “Master, it is
good that we are here.”
Over the last two months, there have been many people
who have experienced a kind of transformation on their
own… these are the people who have returned to the
Catholic Church during the Catholics Come Home
evangelization initiative. Many returning Catholics
began by going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation for
the first time in years during January and February.
Now that we are in the Season of Lent, there are
returning Catholics attending programs in their own
parishes and coming to the HOMECOMING series
around the Archdiocese.
Every active parishioner needs to be aware that there
are still Catholics returning, but some are coming in a
quiet way by slipping into a pew to attend Mass. This is
a great opportunity for all of us to recall what it feels
like to be in new surroundings for the first time. If you
see a new face in church, smile, introduce yourself, and
welcome them. You could even say the line from today’s
Gospel, “It is good that we are here.”
