In the Gospel today, the owner of the vineyard sent messengers to collect his share of the harvest from the tenant farmers, but there was not a single good steward on the property! God is the owner, we are the tenants. What sort of stewards are we? Word of life. The family on earth is meant to be a mirror of the Trinity, God’s divine “family” in heaven. God intends the family to be our first school of love, holiness and commitment. In the family, we learn who we are–and who God has created us to be. The family is vital in God’s plan for our personal lives. TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. –Philippians 4:6 THE GIFT OF THE REIGN OF GOD Matthew’s Gospel today expands on Isaiah’s ballad considerably. A comparison with the same story in Mark’s Gospel clearly shows us that here the author is busy teaching this community of Jewish Christians: “This is a story about Israel a long time ago; this is also a story about Jesus and the skeptical leaders.” Jesus as much as told these Jewish leaders that they were the tenants who first stoned their own prophets. And he told the leaders they were the tenants who would soon even dispose of him–Jesus–and, in doing so, would forfeit their privileged place of presenting to the world the promised Messiah. “And this,” says Matthew’s Gospel, “is a story about you, the inheritors of what was first offered to Israel.” The reign of God was first opened to Israel and is not given to the whole world, but it must be received as a gift. The first Christians are the new tenants in the vineyard. The deeper reality of the reign or kingdom of God is that it is available to everyone on the face of the earth–Israel included. The second collection this weekend is for Diocesan Obligations. BLESSING OF JOHN PAUL II STATUE I want to thank all those who took part in the unveiling of the Statue of Blessed John Paul II last Sunday. It was an impressive celebration and opening of the 125th Jubilee activities. I am grateful to God, for the beautiful weather and to various parish and civil organizations who attended this historical event. I recognize the sacrifice and time and talent of Fred and Sylvia Kitka, their daughters Kathy and Janet, Joe Ziak and Eugene Rudnicki for planting the flowers at the base of the statue. Needless to say, the children of Saint Joseph School and the Saturday Polish School made a very creative and personal presentation about the life of our late Pope. We owe deep gratitude to Theodore and Helen Dawicki who inspired by faith, made such a grandiose gesture in the memory of their parents. Good deeds and charity done on behalf of the living or deceased are tantamount to prayer. May God increase happiness and joy for Ted’s parents, Walenty and Lucia Dawicki. This Statue will be an incessant reminder to our community of the charisma, holiness, faith and sacrifice of Pope John Paul II and will stand for years to come as vivid testimony of commitment to the Church of our generation. This Jubilee Year gives us the opportunity to redefine ourselves, re-examine our adherence to the spirituality of our ancestors and translate our faith into the harvest of action for the Church. FAMILY MASS This Sunday, Oct. 2nd at 9:30am Mass we will celebrate the Family Mass with the installation of faculty and supportive organizations. After Mass, parents and children are invited to the 200 Sportsmen’s Club for a family picnic. Page 3 2 October 2011 - 2 pazdziernik 2011r. DIVINE MERCY NOVENA This Sunday, October 2nd we will pray the chaplet to the Divine Mercy at 3pm. Jesus said to Sr. Faustina “Through the Chaplet you will obtain everything, if what you ask for will be compatible with my will.” I encourage you to come and spend an hour with Jesus. OCTOBER DEVOTIONS October in the history of the Catholic Church is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. This simple and yet profound prayer so popular in the world provides us the opportunity to reflect on our life and obtain needed graces through the powerful intercession of Our Blessed Mother. The rosary devotion will be celebrated on Sundays after 11:00am Mass, Wednesday and Friday at 6:30pm. In this Jubilee Year we will introduce a Novena to Saint Joseph on every Wednesday in conjunction with the praying of the rosary. In a time of economic crises devotion to St. Joseph is gaining momentum across this country. For the other 11 months of the year, there will always be a votive Mass with a Novena. We invite parishioners and friends to come to the Church on these days and pray to God for your intentions and those of your family. EUCHARISTIC SACRIFICE In the most Holy Eucharist the whole spiritual wealth of the Church is contained–it is the source and the summit of the entire Christian life. The totality of Jesus’ life, ministry, death and resurrection is enshrined in the Eucharist. Participation in the Eucharistic is necessary for eternal salvation for every Catholic. Over centuries, when Mass was celebrated in Latin, every priest and the people pronounced the same words. With the vernacular languages which were introduced at Vatican II the Mass was translated into various languages. Some translations from the Latin to English were not accurate and therefore, will be corrected and introduced on the first Sunday of Advent. During this period of time we will explain some of the words which were misinterpreted. On a practical note in our parish, many Masses have already been scheduled for 2012. Prayer on behalf of another person is important and much more meaningful when the Mass is offered for family members and friends. I would encourage parishioners to offer Mass for special occasions in your life, e.g., marriage anniversaries, childrens’ significant events–birthdays, achievements or failures, sickness in the family, for the conversion of someone who drifted away from the Church, etc. Obviously the Masses for the deceased are extremely important, in fact they are the most effective way of aiding those who have departed this world. JUBILEE COMMITTEE MEETING The next Jubilee Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 4th at 7pm in the rectory. We ask all members to join us. FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION First Friday adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place after the 7:00am Mass on October 7th and continue throughout the day concluding at 3:00pm with the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by benediction. Adorers are asked to attend at their scheduled time. A Mass will also be celebrated at 7:00pm in the Polish language. Please note: All members and parishioners are cordially invited to join us at the 7:00am Mass which is designated for either the living or deceased members of the Sacred Heart Society.
