contemporary dance workshop 1st -10th July 2015 International Youth Meeting Centre in Toruń (Międzynarodowe Centrum Spotkań Młodzieży w Toruniu) instructors: Marta Zawadzka Adrian Wilk contemporary dance workshop 1st – 10th July 2015 International Youth Meeting Centre in Toruń improvisation contact body awareness actions in public space The workshop is for adults aged 16+ We will be improving contemporary dance techniques for ten days. We will put emphasis on dance improvisation so that each participant of the workshop could develop one`s ability to express oneself through dance. Contact Improvisation (CI) and activities improving Body Awareness are essential elements of the workshop programme. All these actions will enable us to prepare and give a performance on the last workshop day. It will be held in the heart of Toruń`s breathtaking Old Town. The venue for the contemporary dance workshop is the International Youth Meeting Centre in Toruń (Międzynarodowe Centrum Spotkań Młodzieży in Toruń). The building was formerly referred to as Richter`s Mill used for industrial purposes, later it became converted into a complex infrastructure with favourable conditions to take creative action. The contemporary dance workshop will be held in a comfortable 310-square-meter room with a marvellous view of the city. Workshop will take place in the room above the workshop will be under the tutelage of Marta Zawadzka – a dancer, choreographer, dance theoretician and teacher. She is also a graduate of Academy of Music in Poznań and Postgraduate Studies in Theory of Dance. She is the first-prize winner at the 12th International Presentations of Contemporary Dance Forms in Kalisz in 2004. She was awarded a scholarship by the Mayor of Toruń and the Marshal of The Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. She has performed at numerous festivals both in Poland and abroad. She is the author of the stage movement to The Parry Sisters (Siostry Parry) directed by Piotr Szalsza. It was not only the première, but also the first production in the KuyavianPomeranian Musical Theatre (Kujawsko-Pomorski Impresaryjny Teatr Muzyczny). Marta Zawadzka cooperates with the “Baj Pomorski” Theatre. Furthermore, she works with amateur teams. She conducts contemporary dance classes, various types of workshop including contemporary techniques, body awareness, ease of movement, movement on stage in theatre as well as theory of dance. She has been cooperating with plenty of cultural and education institutions, for instance, she leads the theatre workshop for third-year students of Cultural Studies at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń. She teaches theory and practice during educational projects connected with dance, now it is “Dance in theatre – theatre in dance 2015” (“Taniec w Teatrze – Teatr w Tańcu 2015”) which was funded by the Institute of Music and Dance, and, which was also carried out by the “Baj Pomorski” Theatre. Moreover, Marta Zawadzka is an eager participant of contemporary dance workshop, Contact Improvisation (CI) and other techniques supporting body workout – all classes are under the tutelage of Polish and foreign teachers. Adrian Wilk – a dancer, dance instructor. He is also a graduate of College of Education and Theatre Practice in Toruń and a student at Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź (specialization: Choreography and Dance Techniques). As a newly-graduated organizer of cultural activities, he started working as an actor-puppeteer in “the Enchanted World” Puppet Theatre (“Zaczarowany Świat”). This cooperation lasted four years. He performed at puppet theatre festivals in Kwidzyn (Poland), Namur (France) and Ordu (Turkey). In the meantime, he also cooperated with the “Pro-Theatro” Foudation – he appeared in the following productions: The Way - Sentiero (Droga –Sentiero), Two Planets (Dwie Planety), Words (Słowa). These performances were given at International Puppet Festivals in Prague (Czech Republic) and Friedrichshafen (Germany). As a dance instructor, he cooperates with the Association of Cultural Initiatives “taRTak” among others. He is both a dancer and a performer in projects organized by the foundation “Perform”. Besides, he has been practicing contemporary dance under the tutelage of Marta Zawadzka. He took part in contemporary dance workshop in Połczyn, Toruń and Wrocław, he was on the Coaching Project related to Contact Improvisation with Body Mind Centering elements. It was managed by Iwona Olszowska. Adrian Wilk made himself acquainted with Peter Jaśko`s technique (Peter is David Zambrano`s dancing group member). He is participating in an international workshop project, Vertical Dance, organized by La compagnie 9-81 in Budapest in May 2015. see you there!
