Beloved parishioners and friends,
Thanks to those who have joined the Annual Catholic
Appeal and are suppor ng the good of the Church in
the Archdiocese of Chicago. We hope not only to meet
our goal and raise $18,986.00, but also to exceed it, so
that the surplus can be returned for the needs of our parish.
As you know, those needs are always great. In the spring me,
which will be here soon, we hope that we will begin the work
on the outer walls of the Church. We need to secure the walls
which absorb water and are causing the destruc on of the
interior part of the Church. The total cost of the work is
es mated at $91,000. We will use our Jubilee Fund money to
cover the cost. Currently, we have $171,816.24 in our Jubilee
Fund. Not all of this money will be used in our Jubilee year.
We need to keep some in reserve just in case an urgent or
unexpected repair should occur. The church building is the
center of our parish; it is there where we gather for prayer,
and we need to take good care of it. The parish has more than
a $900,000 debt, which is the debt that we have inherited.
Despite this fact, we need to move forward; the parish has to
live and bear fruits. Our financial concerns cannot blind us to
our spiritual good, which is priceless. All our material things
will eventually pass away and we will not take anything that
we gathered to the other side, to the world to come. We will
go there alone and stand before the Lord only with the deeds
we have performed during our life me.
Apart from the church’s walls, we need to replace the church’s
doors. They are in very bad shape. The main doors are kept
locked only by a chain and the side door from the Roscoe
street side is corroded and needs to be replaced as well. As
soon as we finish paying for our new organ, we will start raising
funds for the new doors. Soon, I will let you know about the
cost of this project. Slowly, with God’s help, we will try to
meet all our needs - it will not happen overnight, but gradually.
This then is our goal in this Jubilee year: to secure the walls of
the church and replace the old doors with new ones.
Once again, thanks to all who care, who financially support
our parish and who pray for us and the well-being of our
community.

Kochani nasi parafianie i przyjaciele,
Bardzo dziękuję tym, którzy włączyli się w doroczną
kwestę katolicką wspierając dzieła Kościoła w Archidiecezji Chicago. Mamy nadzieję, że wyznaczone nam
zadanie zebrania 18.986 $ nie tylko spełnimy, ale także przekroczymy, tak by nadwyżki z kwesty mogły zostać nam
zwrócone na potrzeby naszej parafii. Jak wiecie, tych potrzeb
jest sporo. Na wiosnę rozpoczniemy prace przy zabezpieczaniu
ścian naszego kościoła, tak, by nie przepuszczały wody do wnętrza
nie dawno pomalowanej świątyni. Koszt inwestycji wyniesie 91
tys. dolarów. Koszty te pokryjemy z funduszu jubileuszowego
parafii, na którym obecnie znajduje się 171,816.24 $. Nie możemy
jednak tego funduszu całkowicie zużyć, gdyż musimy mieć jakąś
rezerwę na wypadek nagłych, nieprzewidzianych remontów,
które przy tak starych budynkach mogą być konieczne w każdej
chwili. Kościół jest centrum naszego życia parafialnego i musimy
wszyscy troszczyć się o jego dobry stan. Pomimo ponad 900
tysięcznego zadłużenia, parafia musi żyć i rozwijać się. Potrzeby
i troski finansowe nie mogą przesłaniać dobra duchowego, o
które chcemy dbać i które chcemy rozwijać. Wszystkie nasze
dobra materialne przeminą, nic ze sobą nie weźmiemy idąc na
tamten świat, a przed Bogiem staniemy tylko z tym, co udało
nam się w naszych duszach zrobić.
Oprócz zabezpieczenia ścian świątyni, chcemy także wymienić
drzwi do kościoła. Są w fatalnym stanie. Główne drzwi wejściowe
zamykane są na łańcuch a boczne drzwi od strony parkingu są
skorodowane i wymagają wymiany. Jak tylko spłacimy organy,
zaczniemy zbierać pieniądze na wymianę drzwi w kościele. W
najbliższym czasie przedstawię wam kosztorys wymiany drzwi.
Powoli, z Bożą pomocą, ufam, że uda nam się jeszcze w roku
Jubileuszowym te drzwi wymienić. To są, zatem dwa projekty,
które chcemy w roku Jubileuszowym przeprowadzić: zabezpieczenie ścian kościoła oraz wymiana drzwi. Proszę was o hojność
i pomoc w sfinalizowaniu tych dwóch projektów.
Raz jeszcze, bardzo dziękuję wszystkim, którym leży na sercu
dobro naszej parafii, naszych dobroczyńcom, którzy często
anonimowo wspierają naszą parafię, osobom, które modlą się
za nas i w ogóle wszystkim, którzy robią cokolwiek, by pomóc,
wesprzeć i umocnić dobro, które próbujemy budować.
Życzę wam wszystkim owocnego przeżycia okresu Wielkiego
Postu. Bardzo serdecznie was wszystkich pozdrawiam, przytulam
do serca i zanurzam w niezgłębionym Bożym miłosierdziu.

New Year’s Day is not the only time you can make resolutions. Lent is a good time for life changing resolutions.
Resolve this Lent to pray more. Avoid
telling yourself that there is no time for
prayer. Be inventive. As you get ready for the day, in the
shower, on your way to work, during lunch, on your way
home, while preparing dinner—there are always a few
moments for prayer.
Resolve this Lent to fast. Start your fasting
with small things; no jam on your toast,
no soft drink for lunch, no afternoon snack, no dessert
with dinner. Fasting has been called “the prayer of the
body.” When we consciously deny ourselves some small
pleasure, we almost automatically become more attentive
to things that really matter, like our relationship to God.
Resolve this Lent to remember
the needy. We think of fasting as
giving something up. Think of almsgiving (or charity toward the poor) as giving something back. Designate your
snack money for the poor. Giving of our time is equally
valuable. Volunteering at a soup kitchen or homeless
shelter will make us more aware of the needs of the poor.
There will be days when our best intentions fall short. But acknowledging our failures and moving on is also a part of this
holy season. With God’s help, our Lenten resolutions could
become lifelong habits.

Journeys Divorce Recovery Ministry
St. Paul of the Cross is hosting a series of monthly meetings
called Journeys. These meetings are for men and women who
are divorced or in the process of divorce, who wish to cope and
obtain strength throughout their journeys. Meetings include
educational information, time to share, and prayer, and is facilitated
by formal participants. Confidentiality is stressed.

Eucharistic Adoration takes place in our parish every
Tuesday—beginning after the 8:15 a.m. English Mass.
Benediction is at 6:45 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. Mass
in Polish. Adoration also takes place every First Friday of
the Month.
KOLBE HOUSE LENTEN EMAIL RETREAT
Kolbe House, the Jail Ministry of Archdiocese of Chicago,
invites you to participate in our annual Lenten email retreat
that starts on March 10th, 2014. Every Monday during Lent
you will receive an email from us that contains a short reflection written by one of our Kolbe House staff or volunteers.
Lenten Fast & Abstinence
Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59
are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday and
Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14
years old and older must abstain from meat on Ash
Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent.
Fasting, as explained by the U.S. bishops, means partaking
of only one full meal. Some food (not equaling another
full meal) is permitted at breakfast and around midday or
in the evening—depending on when a person chooses to
eat the main or full meal.
Abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, milk
products or condiments made of animal fat.

During this retreat we will reflect upon the Way of the Cross.
The power of the traditional Via Crucis (Way of the Cross) is
that we are invited to place our own struggles, loneliness and
sufferings within the passion of Jesus. During the six weeks of
Lent, we will reflect on six specific Stations of the Cross. Our
email retreat will allow us to place ourselves along the road
with those who witnessed the passion of Jesus.
We want to thank our Pastor, Fr. Marek, and his
Associate Pastor, Fr. Damian for their support of
this sale.
Each week we will offer you some reflections, prayers, and
suggested action steps to help your journey come alive. We
suggest that you keep a journal and write down your thoughts
every day. You may wish to spend some time in solitude – we
will suggest topics to reflect on and readings to do. We want
you to do what is possible for you – whatever you can.

This past weekend we received $378.00 in
donations to our organ fund.
This brings our Amount Collected To Date to
$36,255.77. We are now almost 79% to our

that you are included in our prayers, especially at our
Wednesday Masses for all benefactors of St. Ladislaus
Parish.

the school at 7:30 PM every 1st Wednesday of the Month in
English and every 3rd Wednesday of the Month in Polish.
Arrangements must be made at least four months in advance.
Please make an appointment with one of the priests to begin the
process.
Sick Calls:
In all cases of serious illness or accident the priest should be
called at once. Holy Communion will be brought to the sick
upon request.

Chcemy podziękować wszystkim za hojność i
zapewnić o naszych modlitwach, zwłaszcza w naszych środowych mszach świętych za naszych wszystkich dobroczyńców. Dziękujemy za hojność.
Adoracja Najświętszego Sakramentu
Adoracja odbywa się w każdy wtorek początek po mszy angielskiej o godz. 8:15
am., aż do błogosławieństwa o godz. 6:45
pm., po którym następuje msza w języku
polskim o godz. 7:00 pm.
Główny obrzęd Środy Popielcowej wywodzi się z czasów
starożytnych, z tradycji judaizmu, w której to Żydzi na znak
postu i pokuty posypywali głowy popiołem. Miał to być akt
najwyższej skruchy, polegający na uznaniu własnej marności
w oczach Boga. Grzesznik podkreślał w ten sposób własną
śmiertelność i znikomość. W Kościele katolickim zwyczaj
posypywania głowy popiołem w pierwszy dzień Wielkiego
Postu został wprowadzony w XI wieku przez papieża Urbana II. Ustalono również, że popiół będzie pochodził z
palm poświęconych w zeszłoroczną Niedzielę Palmową.
Ponadto, Jan Paweł II ogłosił Popielec Dniem modlitw o
pokój na świecie.
W Środę Popielcową katolików obowiązuje post ścisły, a
więc spożycie trzech posiłków, w tym jednego do sytości.
W kościołach kapłani odziani w fioletowe szaty liturgiczne,
będące symbolem pokuty, odprawiają msze święte. Centralnym rytuałem podczas nabożeństwa jest posypywanie głów
wiernych popiołem. Kapłani czyniąc to, wypowiadają słowa
z Księgi Rodzaju: „Prochem jesteś i w proch się obrócisz”
lub cytują słowa Ewangelii świętego Marka: „Nawracajcie

Centrum dla kobiet - The Women’s Center
The Women’s Center jest ośrodkiem pomocy w
kryzysowych sytuacjach związanych z ciążą, który w ciągu
29 lat swojej służby ocalił w przybliżeniu 37,000 dzieci oraz
ich matki od cierpienia z powodu aborcji. Proponujemy
kobietom inne rozwiązania
aniżeli aborcja i udzielamy pomoc materialną, fachową
poradę, przyjaźń i wsparcie
modlitewne.
