esus called Peter,
Andrew, James, and
John to follow Him
and become fishers of
men (Mt 4:19). We too
are repeatedly appealing for workers for the
harvest (see Mt 9:38).
Some very busy people
answer our appeals and
thus become even busier,
taking on more work and
responsibilities. The sacrificial love of these very
busy people is beautiful.
Although Jesus does assign more work to the
few existing workers (see
Lk 12:48; Lk 19:17ff),
He is constantly calling
more and more people to
become workers. Jesus
plans to give these prospective workers the time
to follow Him and work
for Him by changing their
jobs, habits, and lives.
Do more work for the
Lord, but first ask the
Lord what you should
drop out of your life. If
you’re very busy already,
don’t add on; instead
substitute. If you don’t
do this first according to
God’s will, you will probably do it later against
His will. For example, if
the Lord is calling you to
lead a Bible study, feed
the starving, or heal the
sick, drop something (like
TV). However, if you try
to work more for Him and
still watch TV as much,
you may later drop prayer
time or time with your
family.
Take on new jobs for
Jesus. Drop something
first, however, because
what you will drop later
will usually not be the
right thing.

Życie w sieci
Piotr i Andrzej zarzucali
swoje sieci dzień w dzień i
niejedną noc, ale niewiele
z tego mieli korzyści.
Kiedy Jezus pojawił się
na brzegu jeziora, nadał
ich życiu nowe perspektywy, nowy sens i to
ich porwało. Tylko Bóg
potrafi nadać człowiekowi
nowe
znaczenie
egzystencji. Tylko Bóg
czyni życie porywającym
i fascynującym, godnym
porzucenia natychmiast
tego wszystkiego, co dotychczas się czyniło. To
dzięki Jezusowi, Jego
obecności przy naszych
sieciach, życie może być
spełnione nawet w najbardziej
przyziemnej
postaci, ale Jemu chodzi o coś więcej. Chce
uczynić
coś
wspanialszego dla człowieka.
Chodzi o wyłowienie
wieczności spod powierzchni doczesności albo o
wyłowienie ludzi zatopionych w morzu grzechów
i ukazanie im Nowego
Świata. W tym krótkim
epizodzie rybackim, widzimy jak wspaniały jest
Bóg w Jezusie Chrystusie!
Odkrył przed tymi braćmi
nowy wymiar życia,
pomógł im zobaczyć
coś
nieskończenie
piękniejszego niż wodorosty, płetwy ryb, sznury
sieci i słony pot. Pomógł
Piotrowi i Andrzejowi
wznieść swoje aspiracje
wyżej. Z dna morskiego
do niezgłębionego nieba.
Wokół nas
są tysiące
ludzi, którzy nie radzą
sobie z życiem, nie widzą
żadnych perspektyw, a tym
bardziej nie mają nadziei
w Bogu. Zaplątani w sieci
bezsilności i bezsensu
pochylają się ku rozpaczy
i samopotępieniu. Są jak
ryby uwikłane w sieci –
pogoni za pieniądzem,
zagubieni w sieci podatków, sieci komórkowej
telefonii, sieci zakupów,
sieci
uzależnień
nałogowych,
toksycznych emocji, zranień
z dzieciństwa, długów,
wreszcie sieci grzechów.
Kto ich pociągnie ku
górze? Jezus powołał
dwóch braci, a nie samego
Piotra, bo jesteśmy sobie
potrzebni i zdarza się, że,
pomagając innym, pomagamy sobie. Ale żeby innych nie wikłać, trzeba
samemu być uwolnionym
przez Jezusa. Dlatego Jezus najpierw uwolnił od
sieci Piotra i Andrzeja,
a później kazał im iść i
łowić innych do nowego
życia w Duchu. To prawda, że poczucie wartości
życia bierze się również
z faktu bycia pomocnym
dla innych. Warto żyć
ze świadomością, że się
komuś pomogło wydobyć
z dna. Oto stolarz z Nazaretu, który w kilku słowach
pomógł nieszczególnym
rybakom wydobyć się ze
swojego poplątanego losu
i uczynił ich przywódcami
ludu, ale nade wszystko
dał im rękojmię na życie
wieczne. Nie powiedział:
chodźcie za Mną, byście
pomogli mi zostać wielkim przywódcą religijnym, lecz powiedział:
chodźcie za mną, a Ja was
uczynię
przywódcami,
którzy są schronieniem
dla przerażonych. Kościół
to cierpliwa wytrwałość,
w której jedni wyciągają
drugich wyżej od siebie.
Jezus nauczył Piotra i Andrzeja przywództwa, które
nie jest manipulowaniem
innymi, tylko służeniem
innym ku ich wyniesieniu
ku górze. Wyżej od siebie.
Oto sens przywództwa w
chrześcijaństwie. Wielu
ludzi po osiągnieciu szczytów kariery wciąga za
sobą drabinę. Chrystus

As a home visiting volunteer you will visit your
family for 2 hours per
week in their own home,
offering whatever supports that particular family may need: someone
to listen, support to integrate in the local community which in turn will
reduce isolation, helping
solve problems that parents can’t face alone. It’s
what makes Home-start
Perth unique – we can
offer exactly what the
family needs, increasing their confidence and
building better lives for
their children.
As a volunteer you
will receive full training,
and support is offered
from your coordinators
throughout your time
with Home-start. Our
volunteers, like our families, come from all walks
of life.

Volunteer PREP course
starts on Thursday 23rd
February and will be held
in our offices in Highland
House, Perth, although
applications are invited
from anywhere in Perthshire. The course runs
for 6 consecutive Thursdays, 0930-1430, covering everything you will
need to become a home
visiting Volunteer.
