Second announcement
The organizers of an international conference Foliations 2012 warmly welcome all the
mathematicians interested in that field to participate in our meeting. The conference is
hosted by the University of Łódź, Poland and takes place in the period June 24–30, 2012.
The lectures start on Monday June 25’s morning and ends on Saturday June 30’s noon.
Foliations 2012 is a satellite of the 6th European Congress of Mathematics (July 2–7,
2012, Kraków, Poland). On July 1, participants of both events, Foliations 2012 and 6th ECM,
will be transfered from Łódź to Kraków.
The main purpose of the conference is to stimulate the exchange of new ideas in all
aspects of foliations theory and related topics such as
– foliations and laminations of 3-manifolds,
– foliations and contact structures,
– foliations and symplectic structures,
– holomorphic differential forms and foliations,
– rigidity of foliated structures,
– dynamical systems and foliations,
– characteristic classes for foliations,
– classifying spaces for foliated structures,
– analysis on foliated spaces,
– confoliations,
– Engel and Goursat structures,
– groups and pseudogroups actions on manifolds,
– holonomy groups and pseudogroups of foliations,
– extrinsic and conformal geometry of foliated Riemannian manifolds.
We encourage young researchers and students to take part in the conference. Some
financial support should be available.
Foliations 2012 is the fifth conference organized by the Chair of Geometry of the University of Łódź and personally by Paweł Walczak and his collaborators. The previous meetings
were held in Łódź (1990, 2005) and Warsaw (1995, 2000). The conference is supported by
the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Łódź, the Stefan
Banach International Mathematical Center and the Polish National Science Center.

The scientific program consists of invited lectures as well as contributed talks. The

We shall try to make your stay in Łódź as pleasant as possible. A list of social events
contains an opening reception (June 25’s evening), Łódź sightseeing (June 27’s afternoon),
and a banquet (June 29’s evening).
REGISTRATION, ACCOMMODATION AND PAYMENT
If you are interested in participation in Foliations 2012 then simply fill out the registration form at the web page of the meeting. If you need an official invitation letter, please
indicate this on the registration form.
All the participants will be accommodated at the University of Łódź Training and Conference Center, ul. Kopcińskiego 16/18, Łódź, which is located 5 minutes walk from the
conference venue.
If you would like to stay in a hotel in the city, please indicate this during the registration
process and make the reservation by yourself.
The conference fee is 900 PLN (approx. 200 euro) for participants and 400 PLN for
accompanying persons. It covers a volume of proceedings, abstract booklet, conference items
(for participants) and lunches, coffee breaks and all the social events (for both participants
and accompanying persons). The conference fee does not cover the cost of accommodation.
This should be paid separately at the hotel.
We strongly recommend to pay the registration fee through the bank transfer. All the
payments should be made in Polish złoty (PLN) and should be free of any additional

Organizers try to find some financial support for young mathematicians (PhD not earlier
than 2009). Participants could apply for it via e-mail. The third announcement containing
practical information will be sent to registered participants by the end of April, 2011.
CONTRIBUTIONS
If you plan to give a talk, please fill out the field ”title” in the registration form and attach
an abstract (LATEX format is strongly recommended). The deadline for abstract submission
is March 31, 2012. The Proceedings of Foliations 2012 will be published by the World
Scientific Publishing in Singapore. All the participants are invited to submit a contribution
(LATEX class will be provided). The deadline for the submission is November 30, 2012. All
submissions will be reviewed.
TRAVEL
Łódź is located in the center of Poland. Łódź has the local airport (LCJ, Władysław
Reymont Łódź Airport) which offers a few destinations mainly British Islands. The closest
international airport is Warsaw Fryderyk Chopin International Airport (WAW). It is about
130 km from Łódź and this part of a trip (local bus+train) lasts about 2,5 h.
