Rapid cooling of the blown sleeve is achieved by passing it through a cold water tank. By rapid cooling the "freezing" of the amorphous structure is obtained, which in turn results in its substantial part and higher percentage vs crystalline structure. Physical and mechanical features of the film, such as transparency, gloss and thermoforming properties, depend on the crystalline phase. The smaller part of crystalline phase vs amorphous phase the better performance and optics will be achieved. A similar phenomenon occurs in the production of glass. It is worth quoting here a publication of BASF - one of the main producers of polyamide, known under the trade name, Ultramid. [1] The publication presents studies performed on 50 micron PA films produced from Ultramide. The results show the relationship between the crystallization and haze, expressed as a percentage value, and thermoformability, defined as the thickness at the thinnest points of the film, in formed shapes. At 38% crystallization and haze of 2.8%, the measured film thickness at the thinnest point, was 12 microns. At 20% crystallization and haze of 0.4%, the measured film thickness at the most thinnest point, was much higher and reached 18 microns. High 3 transparency film, with light transmission ratio (LTR) well above 90%, indicates high proportion of amorphous phase, and proves extremely good thermoformability of multilayer films produced by Kalibra Sp. z o.o. . Such a high proportion of amorphous phase is not achievable with any other technology of film with PA content coextrusion. Kalibra Sp. z o.o. produces coextruded multilayer films with a total thickness of 50 to 300 microns. These are six-layer-films, of PA / adh * / PA / adh / PE / PE structure, where adh* means polymer binding.
