Standard przechowywania obrazów medycznych DICOM
I Wyjazdowa Sesja Naukowa Doktorantów Politechniki Łódzkiej Kwiecień 17 – 19, 2011; Rogów – Polska STANDARD PRZECHOWYWANIA OBRAZÓW MEDYCZNYCH DICOM – PRZETWARZANIE OBRAZU. Doktorant: Mirosław Zając Promotor: Zbigniew Gmyrek * Instytut Mechatroniki i Systemów Informatycznych, Wydział Elektrotechniki, Elektroniki, Informatyki i Automatyki, Politechnika Łódzka Politechnika Łódzka, Polska, e-mail: [email protected] Streszczenie: DICOM jest standardem opracowanym w 1985 roku przez American College of Radiology oraz NEMA (ang. National Electrical Manufacturers Association). Standard miał ujednolicić spsób przekazywania informacji z różnych cyfrowych urządzeń np: ultrasonografu ,elektrokadiografu, tomografu i innych. I Wyjazdowa Sesja Naukowa Doktorantów Politechniki Łódzkiej Kwiecień 17 – 19, 2011; Rogów – Polska DICOM STANDARD FOR MEDICAL IMAGES STORAGE – IMAGE PROCESSING. PhD Student: Mirosław Zając Supervisor: Zbigniew Gmyrek * Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems, Faculty of Faculty of Electrical, Electronic, Computer and Control Engineering, Technical University of Lodz, Poland, The author is a scholarship holder of project entitled "Innovative education ..." supported by European Social Fund. e-mail address: [email protected] Abstract: DICOM is a standard drawn up in 1985 by the American College of Radiology and NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association). The standard was to unify the way of transmitting information from various digital devices, e.g. ultrasound scanner, electrocardiograph, tomograph and other. The standard offers very broad possibilities of information storage. The information, either in the form of an image, video or audio file, is placed in a container where all files are stored. The standard offers not only the possibility to store data from medical tests, but also information concerning patient‟s address details, the doctor who carried out the test, the device on which the test was carried out, its parameters, and many other. It is impossible to enumerate all parameters, because the standard comprises nearly 200 of them. It may be said that the standard is to ensure full functionality of patient‟s history. Due to the above, wherever a patient goes, he/she may take the entire medical documentation along with him/her. It is also possible to send it via electronic mail to any place in the world in order to seek advice by an expert who does not have to be physically present where the patient is. The standard undergoes constant development, and its possibilities keep growing. The number of its recent version is 3.0. It should be emphasized that the standard itself is much, but the methods that allow reading and processing the data are equally important. A doctor is a specialist in his field, but does not have to be an expert in mathematics or image processing. Thus the doctor should be ensured maximum simplicity in browsing the data, as well as the possibility to reflect and present, as faithfully as possible, the details that he/she might find of interest and that may prove a disease. The paper tackles the issues of mathematical operations on an image, software compatible with the DICOM standard, and improving the quality of images saved in this standard as well as their imaging.
