In math our data project has been in using the internet to track the daily sunrise and sunset times. When we analyzed the data to find the mean, median, and mode, we discovered that on the average we gain 3 minutes of sunlight every day. In English we wrote about the signs of spring and from this created a class list of our favorite “Top Ten” things about spring. We were so happy with this project that we spontaneously created words to the song “Celebrate Springtime, Come on”. We paraded through the school sharing our excitement with everyone! In math we acknowledged National π Day by exploring the formula to find circumference of a circle. First we viewed internet videos about this national celebration and then investigated how the ancient Greeks arrived at the formula π=3.14… by wrapping a string around a circular object and then measuring the string. In religion we created beautiful Easter and new life mandalas which are on display for you to see the next time you come into school. We also filled our prayer corner with Easter lily crosses of joy and peace for the seven Sundays of Easter. We continue to use technology in all that we do. We set up a blog to discuss books we are reading, created a Voki as part of our presidential research project, and used popplets or mind maps to finalize our work in science. Our teacher is learning how to create digital lessons for us and we enjoyed doing one of these which included a Youtube video on the vernal equinox. As you can see we are learning many new things every day and enjoying our last trimester together as fifth graders! Thank you for your support of St. William School so that we can become educated and prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Come to the Talent Show on April 15 at 7:00pm in Liebrich Hall! Rush Street, Chicago IL 60611-2030 Easter 2015 Dear brothers and sisters in the Risen Lord, With our celebration of Easter, we proclaim “Christ is risen,” and call each other and the world to renew our hope. That call to hope is actually a very daring invitation. So much of what we experience in the world points us in another direction—most often, to sad resignation. Worldwide armed conflict, lethal gang violence in our neighborhoods, families trapped in poverty, immigrants uncertain about their future, young people robbed of a future because of drugs and poor education, and the most vulnerable among us—the unborn, the chronically ill, the secretly abused, the elderly, the dying—who have become in the words of Pope Francis “disposable”—all this suggests a dim future. Who are we, then, to proclaim hope? How do we dare to say that there is a reason for hope? Our response is simple, and our conviction is firm. We have come to know Jesus, the Risen One. We have come to know Jesus in his word and in his sacraments. We have known him in each other, in the faces of those whom we love and in the faces of the poor and marginalized. Our knowledge of him has brought us before his cross on which he destroyed sin and death. Our knowledge of him has brought us to stand before him as the Risen One who breathes the new life of the Spirit into those who believe in him. We dare to hope, because the eternal Word of God dared to take our flesh and passed through death to new and glorious life. He opened the way for us to embrace eternal life. And so we dare to hope and, even more, dare to share that hope with a wounded struggling world. Pray for me as I pray for you that our faith and confidence in the Risen Christ will bless this world with the renewed hope that it desperately needs. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Blase J. Cupich Archbishop of Chicago ALL PARISHIONERS, PPC, FINANCE COUNCIL & ALL ORGANIZATIONS—VERY IMPORTANT MEETING ON MONDAY, APRIL 13th at 7:00pm Help to plan a whole year of events for our St. William Parish 100 Year Anniversary! Mandatory for all! Meet in Liebrich Hall! DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY—TODAY! We’ll pray a Bilingual Devotion (English/ Polish) of The Divine Mercy on Sunday April 12 at 2:50 P.M. **Confession available at 3:00pm. Please mark your calendars for the SIXTH in a series of six Hot Topics discussions. We hope you can join us for what we feel will be very attention grabbing discussion! When: Tuesday, April 14, 2015 @ 7:00 PM Topic: (Catholic) Guilt, Compassion, and ToughLove (Walked Past a Homeless Person One Day and Said....) Presented by: Diane Faust Hosting Parish: St. Celestine Parish – 3020 N. 76th Court, Elmwood Park, IL – Ph.: 708-453-2555 About the Topic: Do we feel an excess guilt if we don’t share; if we don’t donate; if we don’t give to the Many…..who have lost part or all of their faith. What do you do when you encounter a homeless man or woman who is asking for your spare change? Does your handout help them or hurt them? What motivates you to give – compassion, guilt, or a need to make a difference? What’s the best way to let them know you care? How do you decide whether to give them a handout? Is it possible to give them a handup? Diana Faust, a Secular Franciscan who encountered homeless individuals on the streets of downtown Chicago for many years before switching to a career in homeless services, will pose these questions and more to help you think about the answers that are right for you. A small reception will follow the discussion! REFLEKSJA DO CZYTAŃ IEDZIEL YCH 2 iedziela Wielkanocna czyli Miłosierdzia Bożego Dzisiejsza Druga Niedziela Wielkanocna jest obchodzona w całym Kościele jako Niedziela Miłosierdzia. Święto to zostało ustanowione w 2000 roku podczas kanonizacji św. CHURCH NAME AND ADDRESS St. William Church #947950 2600 N.
