AWAITING THE SALVATION OF GOD
The world does not seem big enough to contain the jubilation of the first reading. In the
Gospel reading, the Roman empire isn’t big
enough, either. The great powers of Rome are
named and made to stand waiting for the arrival
of God’s salvation. And we find Paul meditating joyfully on what really matters.
According to Baruch, the city of Jerusalem is like a person
standing on tiptoe looking for God’s salvation, which is coming
from the east. Those who were led away on foot, heads down,
now come back, a proud people. Why, the very way is
smoothed out. The path is lined with fragrant, lush trees.
It can’t get any better than this, can it? Well, yes, it can. For
a voice calls out in the desert. Here is the beginning of the salvation of God.
This week’s second collection is designated
for the Retirement Fund of our Religious.
BLESSING OF THE CHRISTMAS TREE
Today, Sat., Dec. 8th, we welcome children of our school
together with parents to the 4:00pm Family Mass. The students
carrying lights through the darkened church to the altar is impressive. Following Mass, everyone will gather on the church
lawn for the blessing and lighting of the Christmas tree. The
Jubilee Committee and Home School Association are cohosting a ham and turkey dinner in the school cafeteria following the lighting. The tradition of the blessing of the Christmas
Tree, which we began several years ago, and the dinner provides the opportunity for the school and parish to come together
in our 125th Jubilee Year and also the “Year of Faith” in the
spirit of joy, cooperation and mutual support.
CHILDREN OF MARY SODALITY
Four new members will be accepted into the Children of
Mary Sodality on Saturday, Dec. 8th at the 4:00pm Family
Mass. The inductees are: Isabella Bezak, Antonia and Riley
Peters and Alexandra Sobczak.
Officers for this school year are: President, Hannah Yash;
Vice-President, Oktawia Gielarowiec; Secretary, Shauna Harney and Treasurer, Hannah Iozzo.
May all members grow in their devotion to the Mother of God
and practice all her virtues.

ADVENT REFLECTION
Year after year the different seasons of the Church reappear
like clockwork and year after year some people seem not to pay
attention to the meaning of a given Holy Day. Advent time invites us to make God a priority and deepen our relationship with
Christ, the Savior of the world. During the first two weeks of
Advent, before we are swallowed into the rush of Christmas
shopping, we should prepare ourselves to encounter Christ at the
end of our life, whenever it comes. This is an appropriate time
to look into our personal calendar of life and see how well we
practiced our Stewardship of Time, Talent or Treasure for God
and His Church. There are many ways to accomplish this—
attend daily Masses, get involved with various ministries, offer
your talent by teaching religious education, join the choir or
make a donation to the Church at Christmas time like a Birthday
gift to Jesus.
As every year we are coming closer to encountering eternity,
therefore, through God’s goodness and generosity we may have
a little more time to do good.
CHRISTMAS PREPARATION
Novena to the Infant Jesus-begins Sun., Dec. 16-a traditional
nine-day Novena of interrupted prayers. We will recite abbreviated prayers on the weekend as well as following the 6:30am
daily Mass to fulfill this requirement.
Reminder-On Monday, December 17 at 6:00pm we will hold
a Reconciliation Evening for all parishioners including young
people from the Religious Education Program. Clergy from other
parishes will assist to facilitate reconciliation for your convenience.
ST. JOSEPH BASILICA ALTAR GUILD
Your assistance is needed-If you have some spare time, the
Altar Guild is seeking volunteers to assist in preparing the interior of our Basilica for Christmas. Your positive response to this

PARTNERS IN EDUCATION
All parishioners are partners in education of the children in
our school. Because such a high percentage of the school income
comes from tuition and fees, parishioners may develop the mentality that the only ones who need to support the school are those
who use it. This mind-set is contrary to the history of American
Catholic education and to the spirit of stewardship. Previously,
the entire parish always supported the school. The parents of
children who are enrolled in the school may actually be the ones
least able to afford tuition. Older parishioners who no longer
have the expense of raising children may have more disposable
income. Younger parishioners, single people, or couples without
children may have more revenue to contribute to the church.
Baptism calls Christians to be disciples of Jesus. Disciples have
the responsibility of spreading the “good news.” By supporting
the Catholic school and the other ministries of the parish, Catholics share in the evangelizing mission of the Catholic Church.
God has given to all certain resources and we have stewardship
over these resources. This means that we use these funds for the
betterment of the community. We do not retain all this income
merely for our own personal gain. We are all partners in education!
ANGEL GIVING TREE
We are grateful to all who have already responded to the
Angel giving tree requests. The Advent season is when we
include among our charitable works the needs of our local community. Please take an angel as part of your Christmas giving.
By providing assistance to the children and the elderly you are
becoming an angel of wisdom, education and charity to
brighten this season for those in need. Tuition assistance for
families, who want their children to attend St. Joseph School
but are experiencing difficult economic times, would be a blessing to them.
Attach the angel you chose to the gift and place it under the
tree before December 16th so that the gifts can be sorted and
distributed on time. Monetary gifts should be brought to the
sacristy or to the rectory. Thank you for your cooperation, may
God reward you for your generosity.
CASH CALENDARS
Cash Calendars have become a favorite Christmas gift for
family and friends. Look for Patti and Dottie who will be selling the calendars after Masses this weekend. Also available
from your usual seller or at the rectory.
Every other month on a weekly basis we print the names of
the winners. Compared to other games of chance, percentagewise you have an excellent opportunity to win more than once a
month.
We ask that you consider joining our group of dedicated volunteers to assist in selling these cash calendars to benefit not
only the buyers but also our parish.

SCHOOL NEWS
MARK YOUR CALENDAR-Sunday, December 16th at
2:00pm at the Bartlett High School Auditorium. Please join
our school children for the presentation of our annual Christmas
Pageant—”A Christmas Alphabet” and “Carriers of the
Light-A Children’s Christmas Musical”. Tickets are available
at the school-Adults and children over 12- $5; Seniors over 60
and students 6-12-$3; children 5 and under—free admission.
Hope to see you there to experience the spirit of Christmas and
enjoy zeal and artistic talent of our students.
Nichols College Tour-The eighth grade students recently
visited the Nichols College campus and got a quick picture of
college life. Professor William Steglitz, who is a part-time
Math teacher at our school, arranged the visit. The students
enjoyed the tour of the campus and major buildings including
the brand new Student Center. Their sophomore guide, Mike
offered many tips about college applications and available
scholarships and the Admissions Office staff answered many of
our inquisitive student’s questions. This experience served as
an eye opener about the importance of academics,
extracurricular activities and community service as important
factors for college acceptance.

W codziennym życiu zdarza się nam spotykać
ludzi bardzo krytycznych i wymagających, którzy
łatwo dostrzegają nasze wady i błędy, obnażając
je ciętym językiem. Zazwyczaj nie darzymy ich
sympatią, często wręcz ich ignorujemy. A
przecież mają oni w sobie coś z Jana Chrzciciela,
surowego proroka wzywającego do nawrócenia.
Surowość, z jaką drugi człowiek widzi nasze wady i błędy, nie
zawsze jest wynikiem jego stronniczości. Często może być
reakcją na naszą zatwardziałość serca i wezwaniem do
przemiany życia.
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na fundusz
elementarny dla osób duchownych.

Poświęcone opłatki są dostępne w zakrystii. Przy okazji
można również zaopatrzyć się w religijny kalendarz na kolejny

CHILDREN OF MARY SODALITY
Czworo nowych członków Stowarzyszenia Dzieci Maryi
zostało przyjętych 8 grudnia na Mszy św. o godz. 16:00. Nowo
przyjęci członkowie to: Isabella Bezak, Antonia i Rialey Peters
oraz Aleksandra Sobczak.
W tym roku w zarządzie Stowarzyszenia zasiadają: Prezydent
– Hannah Yash, Wiceprezydent – Oktawia Gielarowiec,
Sekretarz – Shauna Harney, Skarbnik - Hannah Iozzo.
Życzymy wszystkim członkom Stowarzyszenia wzrostu
duchowego w nabożeństwie do Najświętszej Maryi Panny i w
naśladowaniu jej cnót.

BŁOGOSŁAWIEŃSTWO CHOINKI
Tuż po Mszy świętej w sobotę wieczorem, dzieci niosące
światła wraz z innymi parafianami przeszły w procesji do
choinki udekorowanej przed kościołem. Po czym wspólnie
odmówiliśmy modlitwę błogosławieństwa choinki. Po
błogosławieństwie
zgromadziliśmy
się
na
okolicznościowym poczęstunki zorganizowanym przez
Komitet Jubileuszowy i HSA.
REFLEKSJA ADWENTOWA
Rok po roku, przebiegają w liturgii różnorodne okresy, i
rok po roku wciąż istnieją tacy, którzy kompletnie nie
przywiązują wagi do nich. A tym czasem są one dla nas
bardzo pomocne. Przeżywany obecnie czas Adwentu
wzywa nas do uczynienia Boga osobą najważniejsza i do
pogłębienia relacji z Chrystusem. W pierwszych
tygodniach Adwentu, zanim zostaniemy pochłonięci przez
gorączkę
świątecznych
zakupów,
będziemy
przygotowywać się do ostatecznego spotkania z
Chrystusem na końcu naszego życia. Jest to zatem
odpowiedni czas, żeby przyjrzeć się przebiegowi naszego
życia i zastanowić się nad tym, jak zarządzamy czasem,
talentami, i dobrami powierzonymi nam przez Boga dla
naszego dobra i chwały Jego Królestwa. Istnieje wiele
sposobów, aby tego dokonać. Można zaangażować się w
różnorodne posługi w Kościele, wspomóc edukacje
religijną a w parafii, przyłączyć się do chóru lub też złożyć
ofiarę.
Każdego roku zdążamy na spotkanie z wiecznością.
Dzięki Bożej dobroci dany jest nam czas na czynienie
dobra. Nie zmarnujmy go.
ŚWIĄTECZNE PRZYGOTOWANIA
Nowenna do Dzieciątka Jezus rozpocznie się w
niedzielę 16 grudnia i będzie domawiania codziennie po
Mszy św. o godz. 6:30.
Spowiedź Adwentowa odbędzie się w poniedziałek 17
grudnia o godz. 18:00. Za specjalne nabożeństwo
zapraszamy wszystkich parafian, jak również młodzież i
dzieci uczęszczające na katechezę. W czasie spowiedzi
będzie posługiwało wielu zaproszonych księży.
CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE
Jak co roku, w okresie Adwentu, w naszej świątyni
znajdują się specjalne drzewka, na których zamiast ozdób
znajda się aniołki z prośbami o prezenty dla potrzebujących
dzieci. Jezus, kiedy zstąpił na ziemię, również był małym
dzieckiem kompletnie zależnym od opieki i troski innych.
Okażmy dobre serce tym, którzy sami nie mogą zaradzić
swoim potrzebom. Sprawmy, by dzieci poczuły miłość i
radość spełnienia się marzeń. Ofiary pieniężne prosimy
przynosić do zakrystii lub na plebanię. Bóg zapłać
wszystkim ofiarodawcom.
STEWARDSHIP/TUITION PROGRAM
W związku z tym, że zdecydowana większość środków
wpływających do szkoły pochodzi z opłat, u parafian może
zrodzić się przeświadczenie, że odpowiedzialni za szkołę są
jedynie ci, którzy z niej korzystają. Taka postawa stoi w
sprzeczności z tradycją edukacji katolickiej w Ameryce.
Kiedyś cała parafia wspierała szkołę. Dziś również jest to
możliwe. Rodzice dzieci, które są zapisane do szkoły
katolickiej mogą mieć trudności w sprostaniu wynikającym
z tego zobowiązaniom finansowym. Ale istnieją przecież w
parafii ludzie, którzy mogą im pomóc. Przyjęty chrzest
wzywa nas do bycia aktywnymi uczniami Chrystusa,
którzy biorą na siebie odpowiedzialność w rozszerzaniu i
pogłębianiu Jego nauczania. Poprzez wspieranie edukacji
katolickiej
jak
również
różnorodnych
posług
duszpasterskich, wierni dołączają się do misji
ewangelizacyjnej Kościoła Katolickiego.
Bóg dał nam różnorodne dobra byśmy nimi zarządzali.
Wykorzystujmy je zatem tak, by służyły nie tylko naszym
potrzebom, ale również ku dobru całej naszej społeczności.
CHRISTMAS SHOW
Za dwa tygodnie, w niedzielę 816 grudnia, dzieci z naszej
szkoły zapraszają na świąteczne przedstawienie , które
zaprezentują nam w Bartlett High School o godz. 14:00.
Przedstawienie nosi tytuł: Christmas Alphabet” i „Carriers
of the Light – Achildren’s Christmas Musical” Zapraszamy
wszystkich do skorzystania z tej wspaniałej okazji, która
pozwoli nam lepiej poczuć atmosferę Świąt i pomoże nam
głębiej przygotować się na przyjęcie Nowonarodzonego.
RELIGIA
Lekcje Religii odbywają się w każdy poniedziałek w
godz. od 17:30 do 18:30.
Potrzebujemy wolontariuszy, którzy zechcieliby
dołączyć się do grona katechetycznego. Zainteresowanych
prosimy o kontakt z kancelarią parafialną.
Bierzmowanie. Najbliższe spotkanie przygotowawcze
dla kandydatów do bierzmowania odbędzie się 23 grudnia
(niedziela) godz. 8:30. Po spotkaniu wspólna Eucharystia o
godz. 9:30. Obecność kandydatów jest obowiązkowa.
DEKORACJE ŚWIĄTECZNE
Grupa zajmująca się dekoracja kościoła poszukuje
chętnych do pomocy przy dekorowaniu naszej świątyni na
Boże Narodzenie. Tych, którzy zechcą pomóc przy tych
