3RD INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE CRIME SCENE
On 18-19 March 2015 the 3rd International Scientific Conference Crime Scene took place in the MT
Polska Trade Fair and Congress Centre, 56c Marsa St., Warsaw.
The first day of the conference, 18 March 2015, was devoted to the role of the crime scene officer. The exchange of crime
scene investigation experience and the information on utilized up-to-date technologies and standards with police and judicial
representatives from various European countries and the U.S provided the basis for development of even more effective
practices towards obtaining solid and irrefutable evidence. Mock crime scene investigation conducted by teams of crime
scene officers from Poland and United Kingdom constituted the integral part of Day 1.
During the second day - 19 March 2015 – the role of forensic expert and judicial bodies, with particular emphasis on forensic
examination, utilization of cutting edge developments across various field of science and maintenance of chain of custody
from crime scene to the court was discussed in line with amended Code of Criminal Procedure, as any irregularities in the
so-called forensic process may lead to undermining the value of evidence by the other party. The amendment to the Code of
Criminal Procedure by allowing adversarial system, which is close to the one followed in the Anglo-Saxon countries was
discussed after presentation by the invited speakers on how the system works in practice.
The conference sessions were moderated by Professor Brunon Hołyst (University of Łódź), Mieczysław Goc Ph.D. (Polish
Forensic Association), Piotr Trojanowski (Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police), Renata Zbieć-Piekarska Ph.D. (Central
Forensic Laboratory of the Police), Professor Tadeusz Tomaszewski (University of Warsaw) and Kamil Januszkiewicz Ph.D.
(Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police).
The participants had an opportunity to hear presentations given by Professor Maria Rogacka-Rzewnicka (University of
Warsaw), Krzysztof Sawicki (Crime Unit, Police Academy at Piła), Professor Jan Widacki (Cracow University of Andrzej Frycz
Modrzewski), Piotr Trojanowski (Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police), Dariusz Knapek (EC Test Systems), Jeremy Smith
(Humberside Police), Kamil Januszkiewicz Ph.D. (Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police), Dariusz Bułka (CYBID Ltd.), Igor
Olewiecki (GE Healthcare), Maria Kambosos (Forensic Science Institute of BKA), Fernando Viegas (Policia Judiciara), Ewa
Jędrych and Krzysztof Biskup (Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police), Professor Chi Chung Yu (Department of Forensic
Science, College of Criminal Justice, Sam Houston State University), Professor Piotr Girdwoyń (University of Warsaw),
Professor Peter Bilous (Washington University), Mira Prausnitz (Thermo Fisher Scientific), Alfred Staszak Ph.D. (District
Attorney in Zielona Góra), Judge, Sebastian Ładoś Ph.D. and Artur Dębski (Central Forensic Laboratory of the Police).
