Tradycji Klezmerskiej) www.klezmerzy.pl
The Jewish tradition and culture have shaped the character of Kazimierz Dolny and have been important
to its history almost since the very beginning of the settlement. For several centuries until World War II,
the Jewish community had constituted approximately half of the local population. Therefore, the
organizers of the Festival of Klezmer Music and Tradition thought of Kazimierz Dolny as the perfect place
for reviving the traditions of the Jewish people.
The Festival has been organized here every second weekend of July since 2006. The idea behind the
Festival was to popularize Klezmer music, which has been played in Kazimierz Dolny every Saturday at
the
concerts, including a Ukrainian band Kharkov Klezmer Band, Swedish Den Flygande Bokrullen, Russian
Nayekhovichi and Hungarian Vespremer.
From Monday to Saturday, Kazimierz Dolny is all about Klezmer music. The Festival consists of art work
exhibitions, theatre performances, concerts in the Festival Club, as well as spontaneous happenings,
which are probably the most joyful elements of the event. On the last day of the Festival you can go on
a Klezmer cruise down the Vistula River, and in the evening you can take part in the Final Concert. The
Festival of Klezmer Music and Tradition www.klezmerzy.pl has become a typical Kazimierz Dolny festival,
an inherent part of the town
The Festival is held under the patronage of the Mayor of Kazimierz Dolny, and since the 2nd edition of
the Festival, the Town of Kazimierz Dolny has been actively involved in the organization of the event.
