Plenary Indulgence for the Observance of
the Jubilee of Mercy Holy Year
What must one do in order to receive the special Plenary
Indulgence?
In order to gain this special Indulgence, a Catholic is required first to make sacramental Confession, receive the
Eucharist at Mass, make a profession of faith and offer
prayers for the Supreme Pontiff's intentions.
In addition to and in conjunction with fulfilling these conditions, one may then take part in any of the following
observances of the Jubilee of Mercy.
Each time one visits, in the course of a pilgrimage, the
Cathedral of the Holy Name of Jesus, or a designated Jubilee Parish, and there walks through the designated Holy
Door, and makes a brief visit.

Temple.
Background on the Gospel
Reading
Today we celebrate
the feast of the Holy Family. This feast is part of the Christmas season, and we should place today's Gospel in the context of what Luke's Gospel tells us about the birth of Jesus.
Luke has been answering the question “Who is Jesus?”
through his stories of the births of John the Baptist and Jesus. Today's Gospel reading continues this theme. It has no
parallel in the other Gospels and is the conclusion of Luke's
Infancy Narrative.
Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are presented in this Gospel
as a faithful Jewish family. They are participating in the annual pilgrimage to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, an
event shared each year with family and friends. When Jesus
is found, Luke describes him as seated in the Temple in the
midst of the Jewish teachers. Although he is young, Jesus
seems not to need teaching about his Jewish tradition. In his
dialogue with these learned teachers, Jesus astounds them
with his insight and understanding. Jesus is a child of Israel.
His Father is God.
The dialogue between Mary and Jesus contains
many references to family relationships. In fact, in this Gospel reading Mary and Joseph are never identified by name.
Instead they are referred to by their relationship to Jesus.
Ultimately, this emphasizes Luke's point about the identity
of Jesus. When Mary and Joseph find Jesus in the Temple,
they question Jesus and express their anxiety. Jesus replies
in words that many have thought to be disrespectful. Jesus
says that he was never lost; he was at home. Jesus is God's
Son, and he is in his Father's house. Luke will continue to
suggest that faith in Jesus establishes new family relationships as he describes Jesus' public ministry.
In Luke's Gospel, Mary's importance is even greater
than her role as Jesus' mother. Mary is the first disciple and
will be present with Jesus' disciples after his Resurrection at
Pentecost.

Way back in 431, there was
a bitter controversy among theologians over the role of Mary in the Catholic Church. They debated the question: Who is Mary in God’s plan?
In the end, the bishops declared that Mary is really the mother of
Jesus and Jesus is really God. So it
must be said that Mary is the Mother
of God. The oldest Christian greeting

of Mary was proclaimed when Mary’s relative Elizabeth called her
“Mother of my Lord.” When Elizabeth welcomed Mary, she recognized
both the great privilege God had given Mary and Mary’s great faith in
accepting it.
For centuries, Mary has been praised because she believed. She is Mother of God because of her faith in God. The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, celebrates Mary’s faith and trust in God
alone. The Church wants us to imitate her faith
A Heartfelt Thank You
This year we did not hold
our traditional Wigilia event
that we have held for many
years at the Social Center
due to declining attendance.
We combined Wigilia with
the St. Nicholas event that
the Polish group has organized for the last couple of
years. There were lots of
happy kids who got to sit on Santa Claus’s lap and get a present while their parents snapped pictures. All the pictures
are the parish website so take a look. Though the event had
a different flavor than the traditional Wigilia, it was full of
life and a lot of fun. Some of the food was catered but a lot
of it was prepared by the very dedicated volunteers we have
in the parish. If you didn’t have a chance to join us this
year, we hope you will come next year. Feel free to invite
your kids and grandkids to come as well. Long-time parishioners, families, organizations as well as businesses in the
area supported the event by placing an ad in our ad book. I
encourage you to pick up one of the books (they are available in the vestibule of the church) and patronize the businesses. I hope that you don’t need to use the funeral homes;
but in case God calls a family member home, there are two
funeral homes in Cicero that always generously support the
parish. The St. Nicholas/
Wigilia was also successful
from a financial standpoint
as it generated $3,161.04
profit. I wish to express my
gratitude to the organizers
and all the volunteers that
lent a hand. May God reward your hard work!

LA SAGRADA FAMILIA: JESUS, MARIA Y JOSE
Los padres de Jesús iban todos los
años a Jerusalén para la fiesta de la
Pascua. Cuando Jesús cumplió los
doce años, subió también con ellos
a la fiesta, pues así había de ser. Al
terminar los días de la fiesta regresaron, pero el niño Jesús se quedó
en Jerusalén sin que sus padres lo
supieran. Seguros de que estaba
con la caravana de vuelta, caminaron todo un día. Después se
pusieron a buscarlo entre sus parientes y conocidos. Como no lo
encontraran, volvieron a Jerusalén en su búsqueda. Al tercer día
lo hallaron en el Templo, sentado en medio de los maestros de
la Ley, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas. Todos los que
le oían quedaban asombrados de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas. Sus padres se emocionaron mucho al verlo; su madre le
decía: «Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? Tu padre y yo hemos estado muy angustiados mientras te buscábamos.» El les
contestó: «¿Y por qué me buscaban? ¿No saben que yo debo
estar donde mi Padre?» Pero ellos no comprendieron esta respuesta. Jesús entonces regresó con ellos, llegando a Nazaret.
Posteriormente siguió obedeciéndoles. Su madre, por su parte,
guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón. Mientras tanto, Jesús
crecía en sabiduría, en edad y en gracia, ante Dios y ante los
hombres.
Solemnidad de Santa María, Madre de
Dios

La Solemnidad de Santa María
Madre de Dios es la primer Fiesta Mariana que apareció en la Iglesia Occidental, su celebración se comenzó a dar
en Roma hacia el siglo VI, probablemente junto con la dedicación –el 1º de
enero– del templo “Santa María Antigua” en el Foro Romano,
una de las primeras iglesias marianas de Roma.
La antigüedad de la celebración mariana se constata en
las pinturas con el nombre de “María, Madre de
Dios” (Theotókos) que han sido encontradas en las Catacumbas
o antiquísimos subterráneos que están cavados debajo de la
ciudad de Roma, donde se reunían los primeros cristianos para
celebrar la Misa en tiempos de las persecuciones.
Más adelante, el rito romano celebraba el 1º de enero
la octava de Navidad, conmemorando la circuncisión del Niño
Jesús. Tras desaparecer la antigua fiesta mariana, en 1931, el
Papa Pío XI, con ocasión del XV centenario del concilio de
Éfeso (431), instituyó la Fiesta Mariana para el 11 de octubre,
en recuerdo de este Concilio, en el que se proclamó solemnemente a Santa María como verdadera Madre de Cristo, que es
verdadero Hijo de Dios; pero en la última reforma del calendario –luego del Concilio Vaticano II– se trasladó la fiesta al 1 de
enero, con la máxima categoría litúrgica, de solemnidad, y con
título de Santa María, Madre de Dios.
De esta manera, esta Fiesta Mariana encuentra un marco litúrgico más adecuado en el tiempo de la Navidad del Señor; y al mismo tiempo, todos los católicos empezamos el año
pidiendo la protección de la Santísima Virgen María.
El Concilio de Éfeso
En el año de 431, el hereje Nestorio se atrevió a decir
que María no era Madre de Dios, afirmando: “¿Entonces Dios
tiene una madre? Pues entonces no condenemos la mitología

griega, que les atribuye una madre a los dioses”. Ante ello, se
reunieron los 200 obispos del mundo en Éfeso –la ciudad donde
la Santísima Virgen pasó sus últimos años– e iluminados por el
Espíritu Santo declararon: “La Virgen María sí es Madre de
Dios porque su Hijo, Cristo, es Dios”. Y acompañados por todo
el gentío de la ciudad que los rodeaba portando antorchas encendidas, hicieron una gran procesión cantando: "Santa María,
Madre de Dios, ruega por nosotros pecadores ahora y en la hora
de nuestra muerte. Amén".
Asimismo, San Cirilo de Alejandría resaltó: “Se dirá:
¿la Virgen es madre de la divinidad? A eso respondemos: el
Verbo viviente, subsistente, fue engendrado por la misma substancia de Dios Padre, existe desde toda la eternidad... Pero en el
tiempo él se hizo carne, por eso se puede decir que nació de
mujer”.
Madre del Niño Dios
“He aquí la sierva del Señor, hágase en mí según tu palabra”
Es desde ese fiat, hágase que Santa María respondió
firme y amorosamente al Plan de Dios; gracias a su entrega
generosa Dios mismo se pudo encarnar para traernos la Reconciliación, que nos libra de las heridas del pecado.
La doncella de Nazareth, la llena de gracia, al asumir
en su vientre al Niño Jesús, la Segunda Persona de la Trinidad,
se convierte en la Madre de Dios, dando todo de sí para su Hijo;
vemos pues que todo en ella apunta a su Hijo Jesús.
Es por ello, que María es modelo para todo cristiano
que busca día a día alcanzar su santificación. En nuestra Madre
Santa María encontramos la guía segura que nos introduce en la
vida del Señor Jesús, ayudándonos a conformarnos con Él y
poder decir como el Apóstol “vivo yo más no yo, es Cristo
quien vive en mí”.

ŚWIĘTO ŚWIĘTEJ RODZINY

Rodzice Jezusa chodzili co roku do Jerozolimy na
Święto Paschy. Gdy miał lat dwanaście, udali się
tam zwyczajem świątecznym. Kiedy wracali po
skończonych uroczystościach, został Jezus w Jerozolimie, a tego nie zauważyli Jego Rodzice. Przypuszczając, że jest w towarzystwie pątników, uszli dzień
drogi i szukali Go wśród krewnych i znajomych.
Gdy Go nie znaleźli, wrócili do Jerozolimy, szukając Go. Dopiero po trzech dniach odnaleźli Go w
świątyni, gdzie siedział między nauczycielami, przysłuchiwał się im i zadawał pytania. Wszyscy zaś,
którzy Go słuchali, byli zdumieni bystrością Jego
umysłu i odpowiedziami. Na ten widok zdziwili się
bardzo, a Jego Matka rzekła do Niego: "Synu, czemuś nam to uczynił? Oto ojciec Twój i Ja z bólem
serca szukaliśmy Ciebie". Lecz On Im odpowiedział:
"Czemuście Mnie szukali? Czy nie wiedzieliście, że
powinienem być w tym, co należy do mego Ojca?"
Oni jednak nie zrozumieli tego, co Im powiedział.
Potem poszedł z Nimi i wrócił do Nazaretu; i był Im
poddany. A Matka Jego chowała wiernie wszystkie
te wspomnienia w swym sercu. Jezus zaś czynił postępy w mądrości, w latach i w łasce u Boga i u ludzi.

W tym roku 6-go
grudnia do naszej parafii przybył długo oczekiwany gość Święty Mikołaj.
Jednak brak białego puchu nie
przeszkodził mu
w przybyciu do
dzieci. Mikołaj
wręczył każdemu dziecko prezent wywołując uśmiech na
twarzach. Radości nie było końca. A zdjęcia z tej imprezy
można obejrzeć na naszej stronie internetowej. Ale nie tylko dzieci miały radość, bo i dorośli też gdyż były smaczne

Wzór Ojca
Ewangelia dzisiejsza zwraca uwagę na św.
Józefa. To on organizuje przymusową emigrację Świętej Rodziny do Egiptu, on kieruje jej
powrotem do ojczyzny. Ewangelia opisuje to
bardzo lakonicznie. Józef słyszy głos Bożego
wezwania: „Wstań, weź Dziecię i Jego Matkę…”. I co robi? „On wstał, wziął w nocy
Dziecię i Jego Matkę i udał się do Egiptu
(wrócił do ziemi Izraela)”. Krótko, konkretnie,
po męsku. Zrobił to, co było trzeba. Bez zbędnych słów, ceregieli, marudzenia, użalania się na los. Co działo
się w nim? Wyobrażam sobie, że – jak każdy, kto kocha – toczył
walkę z pokusami męskiego egoizmu, wygody, małej stabilizacji, prawa do swojego szczęścia… Co by Maryja zrobiła bez
Józefa?
Powtarzające się czterokrotnie greckie słowo, tłumaczone jako
„wstań”, można również oddać jako „obudź się ze snu”. Bóg
obudził w Józefie ojca, wezwał, by był silniejszy niż noc, która
w Biblii jest symbolem działania mrocznych sił zła. To samo
słowo oznacza również powstanie z martwych. Kiedy człowiek
poddaje się słowu Boga, budzi się do życia, przeżywa swoje małe zmartwychwstanie.
