FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Today - which is the first Sunday in Ordinary Time - we celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord. It is most appropriate because baptism begins our life in Christ. As St. Paul tells us today, God "saved us though the
bath of rebirth." That "bath of rebirth" is the sacrament of Baptism.
Baptism is so important that Jesus himself submitted to it. He had no need need to be baptized: He has no
sins and he is Son of God by nature. He did not need cleansing and adoption - as we do. Yet, because of the
importance of baptism, he allowed John to pour those waters over him.
The early Christians struggled with this. Why did the sinless Christ accept a baptism that implied repentance? Gregory Nazienzen - one of the great Greek Fathers - gave this answer: "He comes to bury sinful
humanity in the waters. He comes to sanctify the Jordan for our sake." Then he adds, "Christ is baptized; let
us also go down with him and rise with him."
Jesus made clear the necessity of baptism for salvation. The Catholic Church has always followed that
teaching. St. Paul says that God "saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit." At
the moment of baptism, the Holy Spirit transforms us into God's children by adoption. And before consecrating the bread, the priest prays, "Let your Holy Spirit come upon these gifts..."

„Kiedy cały lud przystępował do chrztu, Jezus także przyjął chrzest". Gdy czytamy fragment Ewangelii
opowiadający o chrzcie Chrystusa nad Jordanem, właściwie za każdym razem patrzymy na tę scenę z
pewnym zdziwieniem. I choć słyszeliśmy już niejedną odpowiedź i wyjaśnienie tego, co wydarzyło się nad
Jordanem, wciąż na nowo powraca pytanie o sens tego wydarzenia. Krótkie stwierdzenie św. Łukasza, że
„Jezus także przyjął chrzest", pokazuje nam, że Ten, który przyszedł nauczać wiary, nie stanął z boku, nie
nauczał, patrząc na wszystkich z góry, ale wszedł w lud, aby razem z ludźmi przeżyć to, co było częścią ich
doświadczenia wiary.
Każdemu z nas potrzeba świadomości, że wiara rodzi się i rozwija w oparciu o osobiste doświadczenie,
zetknięcie się z kimś, kto wierzy; wiara potrzebuje przykładu. Skoro więc również chrzest ma być
udzielany na podstawie wiary rodziców dziecka, zrozumiałe są wątpliwości dotyczące rodziców, którzy choć nie mają przeszkody - żyją w związku niesakramentalnym. Bo jakaż jest ich wiara? Czy mogą po
katolicku wychować dziecko, skoro swoim życiem odrzucają jeden z najważniejszych elementów życia
Kościoła, sakrament małżeństwa?
Niech przykład Jezusa, który wraz z innymi wszedł do Jordanu, by przyjąć chrzest, będzie dla nas
wszystkich przypomnieniem, że najlepszą nauką i najlepszym kazaniem pozostaje zawsze nasze życie.

Hoy - que es el primer domingo de tiempo ordinario - celebramos el Bautismo del Senor. Es muy
apropiado porque el bautismo inicia nuestra vida en Cristo. Como San Pablo nos dice hoy, Dios "nos
salvo...mediante el bautismo."
Bautismo es tan importante que Jesus mismo lo acepto. No tenia ninguna necesidad de ser bautizado. No
tiene ningun pecadao y es Hijo de Dios por naturaleza. No necesitaba purificacion y adopcion - como
nosotros. Sin embargo, a causa de la importancia del bautismo, permitio que Juan derrame esas aguas sobre
el.
Los primeros cristianos preguntaban: Por que Cristo sin pecado acepto un bautismo que implicaba
arrepentimiento? Gregorio de Nazianzo, dio esta respuesta: "Vino para sepultar la humanidad llena de
pecado en las aguas. Vino para sanctificar el Jordán para nosotros." Y anade, "Cristo es bautizado; bajemos
con él para subir con él."
Jesus ensena claramente la necesidad de bautismo para la salvacion. La Iglesia Catolica siempre ha seguido
esa ensenanza. Pero el agua y el trigo tienen poder a causa del Espiritu Santo. San Pablo dice que Dios nos
salva mediante el bautismo y por la accion del Espiritu Santo. Al momento de bautismo, el Espiritua Santo
nos transforme en hijos de Dios por adopcion. Y antes de consagrar el pan, el sacerdote dice, "Te pedimos
que santifiques estos dones con la efusion de tu Espiritu..."

IS APPROACHING

we officially celebrate Catholic Schools Week at
the 12:15 mass. There will be an Open House at
the school following the mass. Come and see all
the exciting things happening at our school. At
the mass, we will present the Distinguished
Graduate Award to retired Judge Thomas Nowinski. Our students will be in uniform and actively
participating in the mass.

LORD LOOK UPON THE FAITH OF YOUR CHURCH
It is the Church that believes first, and so bears, nourishes,
and sustains my faith. Everywhere, it is the Church that first
confesses the Lord;” Throughout the world the holy Church
acclaims you", as we sing in the hymn "Te Deum" with her
and in her, we are won over and brought to confess;” I believe". It is through the Church that we receive faith and new
life in Christ by Baptism. In the ritual Romanum, the minister
of Baptism asks the catechumen:” What do you ask of God's
Church? And the answer is;” Faith". What does faith offer
you?" "Eternal life".
Salvation comes from God alone, but because we receive the
life of faith through the Church, she is our Mother. We believe the Church as the Mother of our new birth, and not in
the Church as if she were the author of our salvation. Because
she is our Mother, she is also our teacher in the faith.

WEJRZYJ PANIE NA WIARĘ TWOJEGO KOŚCIOŁA
Kościół jest tym, który wierzy pierwszy, i w ten sposób
prowadzi, karmi i podtrzymuje naszą wiarę. To Kościół
wyznaje wszędzie Pana "Ciebie po wszystkiej ziemi wyznaje
Kościół św."a z nim i w nim także my dochodzimy do
wyznania wiary. To właśnie dzięki Kościołowi przez chrzest
otrzymujemy wiarę i nowe życie w Chrystusie. W obrzędzie
chrztu dorosłych szafarz chrztu pyta katechumena:"O co
prosisz Kościół Boży?" Odpowiedż: "O wiarę!" "Co ci daje
wiara? - "Życie wieczne!".
Zbawienie pochodzi od samego Boga; ponieważ jednak
życie wiary otrzymujemy za pośrednictwem Kościoła, on jest
naszą Matką. Wierzymy w Kościół jako Matkę naszych
nowych narodzin, a nie w Kościół jako sprawcę naszego
zbawienia. Ponieważ Kościół jest naszą Matką, jest także
nauczycielem naszej wiary.

La Iglesia es la primera que cree, y asi conduce, alimenta y
sostiene mi fe. La Iglesia es la primera que en trodas partes,
confiesa al Seńor. A Ti te confiesa la santa Iglesia por toda la
tierra - cantamos en el "Te Deum", y con ella y en ella somos
impulsados y llevados a confesar tambien; "creo". Por medio
de la Iglesia recibimos la fe y la vida nueva en Christo por el
bautismo. En el Ritual Romano, el ministro del bautismo
pregunta al catecumeno"Que pides a la Iglesia de Dios?" Y la
respuesta es "La fe". "Que te da la fe?" "La vida eterna".
La salvacion viene solo de Dios, pero como recibimos la vida
de la fe a traves de la Iglesia, esta es nuestra madre;"Creemos
en la Iglesia como la madre de nuestro nuevo nacimiento, y
no en la Iglesia como si ella fuese el autor de nuestra
salvacion". Porque es nuestra madre, es tambien la educadora
de nuestra fe.

BAPTISM
Please call the rectory to make arrangements. All parents and
godparents are required to register for and attend a Baptismal
Preparation session. English Baptisms are on the first Sunday
after the 9.00AM or 12.15PM Mass. Polish Baptisms are on
the second Sunday after the 10.30AM Mass. Spanish
Baptisms are on the third Sunday after the 2:30 PM Mass.
MARRIAGE Call the rectory to make arrangements at least
8 months in advance. Your date will be confirmed at the first
meeting with priest or deacon. Pre-Cana conferences are
required.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK AND COMMUNION
CALLS
Please call the rectory to have a priest come for the sacrament
of the sick. If you have been hospitalized or are homebound
and wish a Minister of Care to bring you Communion, please
call the rectory.
CONFESSIONS: Thursday 3:00PM - 4:00PM and 5:00 PM
- 6:00 PM, Saturday from 4:00 to 4:45 PM and Weekdays
after the 7:00 AM Mass.
CHRZEST Prosimy dzwonić na plebanię aby omówić
sprawę chrztu św. Rodzice i chrzestni są proszeni aby się
zapisali na lekcję przygotowawczą do chrztu św.
Chrzty w języku angielskim udzielane są w pierwszą
niedzielę miesiąca w czasie Mszy św. o godzinie 9.00AM lub
12.15PM. Chrzty w języku polskim udzielane są w drugą
niedzielę miesiąca w czasie Mszy św o godz 10.30 AM.
Chrzty w języku hiszpańskim udzielane są w trzecią niedzielę

MAłŻEŃSTWO.Prosimy dzwonić na plebanie conajmniej 8
miesięcy przed planowanym ślubem.Data ślubu bedzie

Prosimy dzwonić na plebanie aby prosić księdza o sakrament
chorych .Jeśli ktoś jest w szpitalu i potrzebuje ministrów

BAUTISMO. Por favor llamar a la rectoria para organizar
bautismo. Los Padres y Padrinos necesitan estar registrados
para classes bautismales. Bautismo son cada tercer domingo a

LAS BODAS. Por favor llamar a la rectoria 8 meses antes de
la boda. Durante la primera reunion con el Padre o Diacono,sera confirmada la fecha de la boda. Necesitan una
precana para poder casarse.
