Third Sunday of Lent – February 28, 2016

This Sunday of the third week of Lent prepares us to hear a call to conversion and repentance. Luke tells us that some among
the crowds report to Jesus a massacre of Galileans by Pilate. The intention of the crowd seems to be to ask Jesus to explain
why these people suffered. It was commonplace to render people's suffering as evidence of their sinfulness. Jesus challenges
this interpretation. Those who were massacred were no more or less sinful than the ones who report the situation to Jesus.
Jesus replies that even a fatal accident, a natural disaster, ought not to be interpreted as punishment for sin.
Jesus' words at first appear to have a fire-and-brimstone quality. Jesus says in essence, “Repent or perish as these people
did; all are sinful before God and deserving of God's punishment.” The tone changes, however, in the parable that follows.
The parable of the barren fig tree contrasts the patience and hopefulness of the gardener with the practicality of the property
owner. When told to cut down the fig tree because it is not producing fruit, the gardener counsels patience. If properly
tended, the barren fig tree may yet bear fruit. This, then, is our reason for hope: Not only does God refuse to abandon us,
he chooses to attend to us even when we show no evidence of his efforts.
Money from Diocese: I am happy to report that our parish recently received a check from our Diocese for $ 1,095.00.
This represents the third rebate returned to us as part of the Partners in Faith campaign. With these funds, we have done, to
December 31, 2015, the following: $ 6,871.75.
These parish funds are only available because of those parishioners who are making ongoing payments on their Partners in
Faith pledges. I am so grateful to all who are consistent paying their pledge, and ask any who may have fallen behind to recommit to their pledge if possible. It is important to the work of the Diocese and to our parish. May God bless you for your
generosity!
WELCOME HOME FOR HEALING: Reconciliation on Monday Nights Throughout Lent.
All
churches in the Paterson Diocese be open on Monday nights during Lent for confessions. In every parish of the Paterson
Diocese at least one priest-confessor will be available from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Monday from February 15th
to March 14th.
Lenten Retreat in our parish will begin on March 6, 2016 and be conducted by Rev. Msgr. Dr. Raymond Kupke in English,
and Rev. Dr. Tadeusz Mierzwa in Polish. Msgr. Kupke will be able to preach only on Sunday at 9:00 AM, so I request those
Parishioners who usually come at Saturday 5:00 PM Mass to participate that weekend at the Sunday’s Mass.
RICE BOWL Our Bishop Arthur Serratelli encourages us to help the poor sharing with them at least $ 1.00 daily during
the Lenten almsgiving .

Słysząc o wypadku opisanym w Ewangelii Jezus okazuje współczucie, lecz wzywa uczniów by wyciągnęli wnioski z
nieoczekiwanej śmierci. Wzywa grzeszników, by się nawrócili, zanim nie będzie za późno. W przypowiesci o braku
owoców na drzewie figowym, czeka cierpliwie do następnego roku, gdy człowiek daje obietnicę nawrócenia.
Pieniądze z Diecezji; Pragnę poinformować, że nasza parafia otrzymała ostatnio czek z naszej Diecezji na sumę: $
1,095.00. Ta suma reprezentuje trzecia ratę, która wróciła do nas jakoczęsć planu kampanii finansowej o nazwie Partners
in Faith. Z całej sumy, którą nasza parafia złożyła do dnia 31 grudnia 2015, otzymalismy z powrotem 25 % czyli $
6,871.75.
Te pieniądze są możliwe tylko dzięki tym Parafianom, którzy konsekwentnie dokonują wpłatę do planu Partners in Faith
stosownie do swojego zobowiązania. Cieszę się, że ci, którzy złożyli swoją dobrowolną deklarację wywiązują się ze swoją
płatnosciach w wyznaczonym przez siebie terminie. Gdyby ktos, z jakichs racji, zalegał z płatnoscią, uprzejmie prosimy o
odnowienie swojego zobowiązania. Bardzo ważną sprawą jest praca Diezecji z naszą parafią. Niech Wam Bóg błogosławi
za Waszą hojnosć!
