OBLATES OF THE VIRGIN MARY - MISSION APPEAL
Fr. Tom Carzon, an Oblate priest, will be at St. Rose
on June 25th & 26th, to inform us about their work in the
Philippines, and to ask us for our support in their work. In
the Philippines, the Oblates train Filipino men to become
Oblate priests, and shoulder the full cost of their training.
Presently, it costs approximately $2,500 a year to educate,
feed, and clothe a seminarian. Please do whatever you can
to support this worthy cause.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Processions are life’s journey distilled. We move with
companions, aware that Christ accompanies us, as we
move to the altar for Communion or to the font for baptism, or carry a loved one to a place of rest. In Europe, the
season of pilgrimage is beginning now, and tens of thousands of people are moving by foot on well-worn paths.
Some take as long as six weeks to walk the last few hundred miles of the medieval pilgrimage route to the Shrine
of St. James the Apostle in Compostella, in northern
Spain.
Those who make the journey by foot, hiking, or
by bicycle, have a kind of passport stamped at villages
and monasteries on the road. When they present this
document at the cathedral, they are given the emblem of a
pilgrim, the scallop shell of St. James. High over their
heads at Mass, a huge botafumero twirls clouds of sweet
incense through the cathedral. Cynics say it is to mask the
odor of smelly feet. The pilgrims know better. Seeing
through the clouds the happy faces of those they met
along the road, they recognize a foretaste of the welcome
into heaven, and the joy of meeting loved ones in the
Kingdom of God.

FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF CHRIST
JOHN THE BAPTIST June 24
The great fifty-day celebration of Easter has
concluded, as have the feasts honoring the Holy Trinity
and the Body and Blood of Christ. Last week we began a
long stretch of Ordinary Time that will bring us to late
November. Saint Paul tells us today that those who are
baptized “have clothed yourselves with Christ” (Galatians
3:27). This scripture is echoed in the Church’s baptism
ritual when we sing, “You have put on Christ, in him you
have been baptized.” This message is inspiring and
sobering at the same time, for in today’s Gospel, we get to
the heart of what it means to be clothed in Christ. The
Lord tells us, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must
deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow
me” (Luke 9:23). For the next twenty-two weeks we are
called to take up the cross and, with Saint Luke as our
guide, follow in the footsteps of Christ.
The Church will have an opportunity this Monday,
June 24th, to celebrate & reflect on the birth of John the
Baptist. John is often described as the last of the Old
Testament prophets and the bridge between Judaism and
Christianity. More commonly, John the Baptizer is known
as the “precursor” of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the
Gospels report John’s basic message: repent, the kingdom
is near at hand, one greater than I is coming.
Though he was a wandering preacher who dressed in
camel skins and ate grasshoppers, John’s legacy is one of
true royalty. His origins are similar to those foretold by
God through the prophet Isaiah: “You are my servant, he
said to me, Israel through whom I show my glory” (Isaiah
49:3). John’s humility -“I am not he”-was surpassed only
by that of his Lord Jesus, the humble servant who
followed.

From Robert Bolt’s classic A Man For All Seasons to
Showtime’s edgy The Tudors, Thomas More endears
himself still: lawyer-statesman of impeccable integrity,
remarried widower and affectionate father delighting in a
lively household - four children, a pet monkey, even a
paid jester! And challenges still: humanist-reformer, yet
champion of Catholic faith and papal primacy. John Paul
II named him “Patron of Statesmen and Politicians,”
citing More’s generous work, both as a lawyer and in
government service, on behalf of the poorest and most
marginalized people of his time, as well as his promotion
of education for all sectors of society. More’s decision for
principle over politics, conscience over convenience
prompted his final words: “I die the King’s good servant,
but God’s first.” Alone among England’s bishops, John
Fisher dared challenge Henry VIII’s divorce and
repudiation of the papacy. When the Pope named the
imprisoned Fisher a cardinal, Henry thundered: “Don’t
bother sending Fisher’s red hat here; I’ll send Fisher’s
head to Rome!” Whose “good servants” are we first? Isn’t
a right conscience worth the pain of standing alone?

W kościele w ławce obok małego Zygmunta siedzi
starsza kobieta. Zbliża się kościelny z tacą. Kobieta
zaczyna nerwowo przetrząsać torebkę. Chłopiec trąca ją
w bok i szepcze: - Niech pani weźmie moją dychę, a ja
się schowam pod ławkę!
Ksiądz naprawia na plebani płot. Otoczyła go gromadka
dzieci. - Co moje dzadki - pyta ksiądz - chcecie się
nauczyć jak się wbija gwoździe? - Nie, chcemy usłyszeć
co mówi ksiądz, jak się walnie młotkiem w palec :)
12 NIEDZIELA OKRESU ZWYKŁEGO
Wszyscy bowiem dzięki wierze jesteście synami
Bożymi w Chrystusie Jezusie. Bo wy wszyscy, którzy
zostaliście ochrzczeni w Chrystusie, przyoblekliście się w
Chrystusa. Nie ma już Żyda ani poganina, nie ma już
niewolnika ani człowieka wolnego, nie ma już mężczyzny
ani kobiety, wszyscy bowiem jesteście kimś jednym w
Chrystusie Jezusie. Jeżeli zaś należycie do Chrystusa, to
jesteście też potomstwem Abrahama i zgodnie z obietnicą
dziedzicami. Ga 3,26-29
Gdy Jezus modlił się na osobności, a byli z Nim
uczniowie, zwrócił się do nich z zapytaniem: Za kogo
uważają Mnie tłumy? Oni odpowiedzieli: Za Jana
Chrzciciela; inni za Eliasza; jeszcze inni mówią, że któryś
z dawnych proroków zmartwychwstał. Zapytał ich: A wy
za kogo Mnie uważacie? Piotr odpowiedział: Za Mesjasza
Bożego. Wtedy surowo im przykazał i napomniał ich, żeby
nikomu o tym nie mówili. I dodał: Syn Człowieczy musi
wiele wycierpieć: będzie odrzucony przez starszyznę,
arcykapłanów i uczonych w Piśmie; będzie zabity, a
trzeciego dnia zmartwychwstanie. Potem mówił do
wszystkich: Jeśli kto chce iść za Mną, niech się zaprze
samego siebie, niech co dnia bierze krzyż swój i niech
Mnie naśladuje! Bo kto chce zachować swoje życie, straci
je, a kto straci swe życie z mego powodu, ten je zachowa.

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Pytając: “A wy za kogo Mnie uważacie?”, Jezus nie
oczekuje dziś od nas formułek, ale refleksji, na ile
rzeczywiście On jest dla nas ważny. Czy moja więź
z Nim jest na tyle mocna, że potrafię nad Nim zapłakać
jak nad własnym dzieckiem, zatęsknić za Nim całym
sobą? Czy ze względu na Niego potrafię pozbyć się
uprzedzeń wobec drugiego człowieka, wierząc, że
wszyscy jesteśmy braćmi i siostrami? Eucharystia, którą
rozpoczynamy, daje nam kolejną szansę przejścia od
teorii do doświadczenia, do wiary, do gotowości
zaparcia się siebie.

NOVENA A LA MEDALLA MILAGROSA
Cada Miercoles despues de la misa de 9:00am.
Según san Mateo, una noche mientras los discípulos
estaban en la barca de Pedro, Jesús vino hacía ellos
caminando sobre el mar. Ellos se espantaron creyendo
que era un fantasma de algún pescador pero él los calmó
diciendo “¡Ánimo!, que soy yo; no teman”. Debió ser
impactante ver al Señor caminar sobre las aguas,
especialmente en una época donde las aguas venían
consideradas como el caos.
En varias partes de latinoamérica los fieles celebran a
distintos santos con procesiones de barcos sobre ríos o
mares. En el Puerto de Paita, Perú se llevan a los santos
Pedro y Pablo en una procesión acuática. San Pedro, que
fue pescador, está en casa sobre la barca, ya que
normalmente son barcas de pescadores las que forman la
procesión. Esta procesión reconoce el caos del mar
reconociendo a los pescadores, que durante el año
perdieron sus vidas en el mar, con guirnaldas lanzadas a
la bahía. Pero, esta procesión no se espanta del mar ya
que es una fiesta en honor de dos siervos de aquel que
camina sobre las aguas, dominando el mar.

SANTO ROSARIO:
RESPUESTA PERSONAL DE FE
Lunes a Viernes a la 8:40am antes de la misa de 9:00am.
Después de pasar la Cuaresma, la Pascua y los días
posteriores a esta fiesta, entramos de nuevo en el Tiempo
Ordinario. Este año las lecturas del Evangelio son
tomadas de san Lucas, comenzando hoy con una
conversación con la que Jesús comienza su camino a
Jerusalén - y a la cruz. Como seguidores suyos,
procuramos marchar con él, incuso hasta la cruz.
La carta de Pablo a los gálatas nos dice que nosotros
los bautizados debemos “revestirnos” de Cristo. Al ser
uno con Cristo, no debemos hacer discriminaciones de
raza, nacionalidad, clases social o género.
El profeta Zacarías, muchos siglos antes de que nadie
oyera hablar de Jesús, explicaba cómo el pueblo iba a
rechazar el mensaje de Dios, encontrándolo incómodo, y
se volverían contra los mensajeros. Sin embargo, luego la
gente se daría cuenta de lo que habían hecho y se
arrepentirían. Y Dios los acogería de nuevo, pues siempre
nos concede la gracia para hacer lo correcto, sin importar
