CONCERT AND ART EXHIBIT
(“Varying Paths of Faith”)
This Sunday, November 16th, at
4:00PM, prior to the opening of the art
exhibit, there will be a guitar concert
performed by Mexican guitar maestro
Robert Sanchez. The concert will be
about 45 minutes and take place in the
theater room of St. Joseph’s Center. Mr.
Sanchez will be performing some of the
most exciting pieces from the guitar music by Spanish composers Joaquin Rodrigo, Turina, as well as music from the
Argentine composer Astor Piazzola. Refreshments will be
served during the art show. Please join us.
ST ROSE OF LIMA PILGRIMAGE
Our parish is organizing a pilgrimage to Peru for next
summer in honor of our Patroness St. Rose of Lima. On Sunday, November 23rd, at 4:00PM, we will have a meeting
held at St Joseph’s Center for those interested in the trip.
The guest presenter will be speaking in English, Spanish &
Polish. Please pick up a flyer at the door for more information.
MASS BOOK 2015
The Mass Book for 2015 will open on Tuesday, November 18th. Please come to the rectory during office hours to
reserve your Masses for next year.
REMEMBRANCE BOOKS
Remembrance books have been placed in the front of the
upper and lower church and will remain there for the month
of November. We invite you to write the names of your deceased loved ones on the pages of these books. As a parish
community, all of these faithful departed will be remembered in our prayers during the “Month of All Souls”.
THANKSGIVING
We are in need of canned vegetables and canned yams for
Thanksgiving baskets for the needy families of the parish.
GIVING TREE
Our annual "Giving Tree" Advent project will begin next
weekend, November 22nd and 23rd. We invite you to take a
tag from the tree and purchase the gift indicated. We ask that
all gifts be left unwrapped. Attach the tag to the outside of
the package and place the gift near the tree by Sunday, December 7th. The gifts will be distributed to homebound
members of our parish, Catholic residents of Belsky House
(UCP), homeless people served through CHIPS, and children whose mothers are in prison. All gifts should be new
and unused. This project has been most successful in the past
and we are confident that our generous parishioner will
again respond with love and enthusiasm.

TODAY’S READINGS
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
First Reading - The woman who fears the LORD is to be
praised (Proverbs 31:10-13, 19-20, 30-31).
Psalm - Blessed are those who fear the Lord
(Psalm 128).
Second Reading - Brothers and sisters, you are children
of the light (1 Thessalonians 5:1-6).
Gospel - To all those who have, more will be given, and
they will have an abundance (Matthew 25:14-30 [14-15,
19-21]).
All Christians in both East and West embraced the
care of the sick as essential to church life. In the West, the
importance of the visit of the priest is stressed, while in
the East, the sick person is brought to the church for a full
Liturgy of the Word. Some, such as the Armenians, even
call it the “Ritual of the Lamp,” since the oil is poured out
of the lamp by which the Word is read. This may be why
Eastern Christians sometimes anoint the sick with this oil,
since the trip to church might kill them.
Our tradition in the West also unfolded in monasteries,
where it was possible for infirm monks to be attended
with a full and beautifully consoling liturgy. In 950 the
monks of St. Alban’s Abbey in Mainz produced a
ceremonial book that was instantly a pastoral hit
everywhere. There were two lengthy rituals for the sick,
one an extended vigil, and the other a liturgy of anointing
that included Communion under both species.
While this ritual was a house formula for monks, it is
easy to see how monks who had the care of parishes
desired to serve their parishioners in a similar way. The
first form included the chanting of penitential psalms, and
the second form required a confession beforehand. Both
forms included a laying on of hands, which everyone
understood as being an essential part of
penance.
CHANGE OUR LIVES
The letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among his
earliest writings, and are driven by his belief and the
belief of the entire early Christian community that the
return of Christ was imminent, and that devoting time or
attention to anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor subsided a bit. Today
we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the
coming end-times, if we should take them to heart, if we
really believe that Christ still may come upon us as a
“thief at night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2). Does this mean that
we are to stop our long-range goal-setting, get rid of our
yearly calendars and planners, or stop putting money in
the college education fund? Of course not. What it does
mean is that we need to change our lives, living like
children of the light and illuminating the world around us
with the light of the gospel. Then, on that day, when the
details of our daily living become unimportant, we will be
ready to find our peace and security in Christ Jesus.

Jezus opowiedział uczniom tę przypowieść:
Pewien człowiek, mając się udać w podróż, przywołał
swoje sługi i przekazał im swój majątek. Jednemu dał
pięć talentów, drugiemu dwa, trzeciemu jeden, każdemu
według jego zdolności, i odjechał. Zaraz ten, który
otrzymał pięć talentów, poszedł, puścił je w obrót i zyskał
drugie pięć. Tak samo i ten, który dwa otrzymał; on
również zyskał drugie dwa. Ten zaś, który otrzymał
jeden, poszedł i rozkopawszy ziemię, ukrył pieniądze
swego pana. Po dłuższym czasie powrócił pan owych sług
i zaczął rozliczać się z nimi. Wówczas przyszedł ten,
który otrzymał pięć talentów. Przyniósł drugie pięć i
rzekł: Panie, przekazałeś mi pięć talentów, oto drugie pięć
talentów zyskałem. Rzekł mu pan: Dobrze, sługo dobry i
wierny! Byłeś wierny w rzeczach niewielu, nad wieloma
cię postawię: wejdź do radości twego pana! Przyszedł
również i ten, który otrzymał dwa talenty, mówiąc: Panie,
przekazałeś mi dwa talenty, oto drugie dwa talenty
zyskałem. Rzekł mu pan: Dobrze, sługo dobry i wierny!
Byłeś wierny w rzeczach niewielu, nad wieloma cię
postawię: wejdź do radości twego pana! Przyszedł i ten,
który otrzymał jeden talent, i rzekł: Panie, wiedziałem,
żeś jest człowiek twardy: chcesz żąć tam, gdzie nie
posiałeś, i zbierać tam, gdzieś nie rozsypał. Bojąc się
więc, poszedłem i ukryłem twój talent w ziemi. Oto masz
swoją własność! Odrzekł mu pan jego: Sługo zły i
gnuśny! Wiedziałeś, że chcę żąć tam, gdzie nie posiałem,
i zbierać tam, gdziem nie rozsypał. Powinieneś więc był
oddać moje pieniądze bankierom, a ja po powrocie
byłbym z zyskiem odebrał swoją własność. Dlatego
odbierzcie mu ten talent, a dajcie temu, który ma dziesięć
talentów. Każdemu bowiem, kto ma, będzie dodane, tak
że nadmiar mieć będzie. Temu zaś, kto nie ma, zabiorą
nawet to, co ma. A sługę nieużytecznego wyrzućcie na
zewnątrz - w ciemności! Tam będzie płacz i zgrzytanie
zębów.

REFLEKSJA NAD CZYTANIAMI NIEDZIELNYMI...
Wszystko, co mamy: zdrowie, wydarzenia, rodzina,
przyjaciele, zdolność myślenia i kochania – zostało nam
podarowane przez Boga. Uświadomienie sobie tej
prawdy budzi w nas pokorę i wdzięczność. Z nich rodzi
się miłość, która niczego dla siebie nie zawłaszcza, lecz
oddaje Bogu pomnożone to, co otrzymała. Bóg chce nas
wprowadzić w swoją radość i dać nam siebie samego, „w
zamian” za to „niewiele”, którym na ziemi
rozporządzamy.

CONCIERTO Y EXHIBICIÓN DE ARTE ("Variación en
caminos de la fe")
Éste domingo, 16 de noviembre a las 4:00 de la tarde, antes
de la apertura de la exposición de arte, habrá un concierto de
guitarra realizado por el maestro de la guitarra mexicana
Roberto Sánchez. El concierto será en la sala de teatro del
Centro de San José. El Sr. Sánchez presentará algunas de las
piezas más interesantes de la música de la guitarra de
compositores españoles Joaquín Rodrigo, Turina, así como la
música del compositor argentino Astor Piazzola. Se servirán
refrescos durante la exposición de arte. Por favor, únase a
nosotros.
CAMBIA NUESTRAS VIDAS
Las cartas de Pablo a los tesalonicenses están entre sus
primeros escritos movidos por su creencia, y la creencia de
la comunidad de la Iglesia joven, de que el retorno de Cristo
era inminente, y que dedicar tiempo y atención a otras cosas
era tontería.
Con el paso del tiempo este fervor disminuyó un poco.
Hoy, cuando escuchamos sobre la llegada del fin de los
tiempos, podemos preguntarnos si la tenemos que tomar en
serio, si es que realmente creemos que Cristo todavía puede
venir por nosotros como “un ladrón en la noche” (1
Tesalonicenses 5:2). ¿Significa esto que debemos ponerle un
paro a establecer metas a largo plazo, despojarnos de
nuestros calendarios y agendas anuales, dejar de ahorrar para
una educación universitaria? Por supuesto que no. Lo que
significa es que necesitamos cambiar nuestra vida, vivir
como hijos de las luz e ir iluminando el mundo que nos
rodea con la luz del Evangelio. Entonces, en aquél día,
cuando los detalles de nuestra vida diaria se tornen poco
importantes, estaremos listos para encontrar nuestra paz y
seguridad en Cristo Jesús.
