Dear Customer !
The purpose of this instruction is to provide information about HV outdoor switch
type UNIII-... designed and constructed with a view to satisfying their needs.
The instruction includes technical data, design description as well as
recommendation for adjustment and service. The instruction has been issued with an
intention to help in proper installation, servicing and operation of the HV outdoor switch.
Strict observance of requirements specified in this instruction ensures troublefree
service of operating mechanisms and is a condition of validity of manufacturer’s
guarantee. Therefore, it is necessary for the User, to be acquainted with this instruction,
before the operating mechanisms are installed and put into operation.
Read this manual is necessary for the correct installation and operation of
switches.
We recall the basic principles of operation of the camera:
- Strictly observe the recommendations of this manual,
- Carry out inspections according to the manual,
- Use the recommended supplies,
- All inspections and repairs performed in accordance with safety
regulations.
Compliance with the recommendations contained in this manual will
ensure continuous efficiency of the earthing switch.

1. INTENDED USE
UNIII type outdoor earthing switches are installed in outdoor substations. For earthing and short circuit of electric circuits
disconnected from the voltage. The earthing switches can be used as single pole switches with individual operating
mechanism for each pole (e.g. neutral transformer earthing) or in three pole unit with a common operating mechanism
installed for any pole.

2. COMPLIANCE WITH STANDARDS
Earthing switch UNIII-123 type complies with Polish standard PN-93/E-06107 concerning the international standard
IEC 129 (1984). Earthing switch UNIII-245 type complies with Polish standard PN-EN 62271-102.

5. DESIGN
Earthing switch UNIII type is constructed of
thee freestanding poles (Fig. 2). Each pole has
independent base frame [1] with mounted
insulator [2]. The current path [3]is mounted on
the top of the insulator. Earthing blade with
movable contact [5] is fixed to the shaft[4]
connected to the intersecting axis gear [6].
Operating mechanism torque [7] is transmitted
by shaft [8] to the crank. 186° rotation of the
shaft sets movable contact in vertical position
and push it into the fixed contact. Opposite side
of the earthing contact is felxible connected to
the frame [9].

6. EARTHING SWITCH INSTALLATION
The earthing switch supplied to the customer is fully adjusted and ready to work. Installation is limited to:
a) setting poles on construction,
b) operating mechanism mounting,
c) driving pole regulation,
d) coupling poles and regulation,
e) foundation and motor mechanism ground.
Preparation of the contact surfaces.
The contact resistance of connected elements depends primarily on the quality and purity of the contacting
surfaces. These surfaces must therefore be prepared very carefully. How to prepare the contact surfaces of aluminum,
silver and zinc are presented below:

The contact surface oxide layer has to be removed with a wire brush. After this operation the surface of them
should be matt-gray, without any glossy places. Remove strictly aluminum dust using ex. acid free vaseline and then
remove her. After that lubricate again with acid free vaseline to protect against aluminum oxidation. So prepared
surface shouldn’t be exposed to the impact of climate.

The contact surface oxide layer has to be removed with a wire brush and then should be covered with a thin layer of
grease.
6.1. Ustawienie biegunów.
The earthing switch poles must be set on a supporting structure, which has mounting holes accordance with the
drawing 4. During the installation, you should pay attention to the position of the driving pole (this is the pole the gear). The
earthing switch base frame has to be tighten with four M16 bolts. You have to choose 4 wholes at four corners of base
frame. After fastening the earthing pole support structure must connect wires, mindful of cleaning the contact surfaces,
with four M12 bolts. Mounting hole pitch is 50x50 (Fig. 5). Prepared mounting holes allow you to tighten the wire from
different directions in relation to earthing. The direction of the wires does not affect to work of the earthing switch.

6.2. Operating mechanism installation.
The drive should be mounted on a supporting structure, under the crank drive located on the earthing switch. Following the
suspension of the drive shaft coupling must be installed, connecting the drive with the crank. Mounting method is shown in
Fig. 5.

6.3. Coupling poles and regulation.

After setting the poles on the construction and connection the operating mechanism, check the position of movable contact
after the entry into fixed contact terminals of the drive pole. Fig. 6 shows location of contact points. If the contact point is in
a different place to shorten or lengthen the connecting rod of the crank shaft. After the regulation you can install the coupling
shafts. Method of the shaft installation is shown at Fig. 7. Coupling shafts should be so installed, that movable contact, when
closed, has reached the appropriate position in the fixed contact.

6.4. Grounding the base frame.
After the adjustment the earthing switch base frame should be grounded. Grounding places are marked on the earthing
switch. The grounding cable should be connected as close as possible to flexible connection the earthing knife with frame. The
best way is to unscrew the flexible connection and insert the ground wire between the structures and flexible connection.
7. MANUAL
The earthing switch is achieved by the action of a suitable motorized or manual drive. Drive User's Guide supplied
with the drive.
8. INSPECTION AND MAINTANCE
8.1. External examination.
Visual inspection should be carried out in accordance with the rules of the distribution or after any failure or short circuit.
Check to be in particular:
a) the status of earthing contact.

b) the condition of the flexible connection.
8.2. Periodic inspection.
Periodic inspections and maintenance must be carried out in accordance with the rules of distribution. During
the review and maintenance, the existing rules of operation of the energy installations and down the requirements for
safety of persons carrying out inspections.
Inspect and perform the following components and activities:
- Condition of contacts of the earthing switch,
- State of mechanisms and bearings and fasteners,
- Regularity occupy the end positions,
- Condition of coatings for protection of corrosion,
- Grease the contacts,
- Grease the ball joints.

8.3. Spare parts and recommended maintenance.
High quality components and operational experience indicates earthing long life (approximately 30 years). However, in
the event of damage to the manufacturer provide according to your order replacement parts
Ordered parts can be fitted only with the knowledge and consent of the manufacturer during the warranty period.
For maintenance of switches should be used with the following materials:
- PHARMACEUTICAL White Petrolatum (acid free), used for lubrication of electrical contacts (ground pins of connectors
WN)
- Grease for example, LT4, or similar to lubricating ball joints.
9. SPARE PARTS
The UNIII-... Type earthing switch has no parts which during normal operation over the life of the switchshould be
replaced. Due to the damage arising as a result of the mishap the manufacturer provides the parts for replacement.
10. PACKING, TRANSPORT AND STORAGE
9.1. Packing and transportation
Earthing poles are transported in the assembled state. The earthing switch can be transported outdoor
transportation.
9.2. Storage
The earthing switch poles can be stored in the open, but the poles should be set so that the base was not directly on
the ground.
11. WARRANTY
Warranty conditions are subject to negotiation between the producer and the buyer.
