Harold Dull (USA)
Biography:
Harold Dull is the president of WABA and the creator of Watsu®, Tantsu® and the Worldwide
Aquatic Bodywork Registry which stores the transcripts of students around the world. Harold
trained with the creator of Zen Shiatsu in Japan, Shizuto Masunaga, and the teachers who brought
Zen Shiatsu to America, Reuho Yamada and Wataru Ohashi. The profundity and effectiveness of
the bodywork forms he has created reflect his passionate practice and deep understanding of energy
and the body; the creativity of these forms reflects his background as a poet in the San Francisco
Renaissance. His three Watsu books, a new Tantsu book and a collection of his poetry as well as
several of his DVDs are available. Harold speaks several languages, which helps him teach his work
all over the world. He has been awarded by Water Fitness and Aquatic Therapy associations. Once
he completed developing the forms needed in clinics and spas around the world, Harold turned his
attention to developing complementary paths that can make Watsu and Tantsu's potential for
connection and the creative engagement of our life force universally available, a new humanism in
which everybody can float or hold each other without intention

joints and soft tissue while the client is floated on special floats taylored to the client's unique
requirements. It is designed for people with mobility problems, soft tissue disorders and injuries,
certain types of pain and neurological conditions which do not tolerate vigorous movement and
deep stretching, and is most suitable for people that are sensitive to motion-sickness or who prefer
a generous amount of personal space.

Karla Caspers (Germany)
Biography: Karla Caspers, MD, Emergency Department , Community Hospital , Herdecke.
Medical Director Research Project “Aquatic bodywork and pain” Aquatic bodywork Instructor.
Presented Material: Chronic diseases , chronic pain and Research Project “Aquatic
bodywork and pain”
Pain is a complex phenomenon occurring in both our body and our soul. Modern pain therapy
methods offer a variety of different approaches. In addition to approaches of orthodox medicine,
pain
clinics
often
use
methods
of
complementary
medicine.
This presentation deals with the variety of origins and influences on the development of chronic
diseases. It explains the pathological mechanisms of chronic pain and the multi-modal approaches
of treatment. We deal especially with the effect of warm water on the Nervous System as a whole
and to its different parts. During the presentation I will give an update on the ongoing research
project of Witten/Herdecke University presently being carried out in Herdecke community
hospital: “Prospective observational study of Aquatic Bodywork in patients suffering from chronic
pain.
Alexander George (Germany)
Biography: Alexander came to the holistic arts following a 25-year career as a ballet and modern
dancer, teacher and choreographer. In 1980 he began the study of holistic massage at the
International School of Professional Bodywork in San Diego, completing the 1000 Hour Massage
Therapist Training in 1983. He went on to become qualified as a Trager Practitioner in 1986,
subsequently studying with Milton Trager himself. In 1990 he became a Watsu Practitioner at
Harbin Hot Springs in northern California under the tutelage of Harold Dull, the originator of
Watsu. In 1993 he studied WaterDance from one of its founders, Arjana Brunschwiler. He
developed Flowing Touch Massage on land, also innovating an advanced level to WaterDance.
Alexander taught for nine years at the School of Shiatsu and Massage at Harbin Hot Springs. He
presently lives in Germany. Alexander has written over eighty articles on teaching and aquatic
bodywork available for free download at http://aquaticwritings.tripod.com.
www.healingdance.org
Presented Material:
Healing Dance® is a powerful and beautiful technique developed by Alexander in 1993,
incorporating elements of Watsu, WaterDance, Trager Work, and dance. It consists of five
trainings, Introduction to Healing Dance, Basic Healing Dance, Advanced Healing Dance and the
two underwater trainings—Above and Below and Shape and Space. The Healing Dance is primarily
based on wave movements for the entire body, and also includes quiet embraces, releases, tractions,
smooth transitions and massage, all woven together in an unending flow. The guiding philosophy of
the work is that movement is the "medicine" and in the experience of "received dance" the healing
process in the body is activated. Students learn to create the sensation of lightness and flying, to
generate a rhythmic field, to find the various "rhythms of awareness" for clients and even to channel
movement. Physical and emotional blockages are resolved in the polarity between freedom and
security. Advanced body mechanics are taught to create movements of greater subtlety and
sensitivity. As the vocabulary of movements expands students become more confident to improvise
and better respond to the needs of the client. Healingdance.org is the official web site of Healing
Dance.
WaterDance (also known as WATA and WasserTanzen) is a dynamic movement therapy above
and below water. It was developed in 1987 by Peter Schröter and Arjana C. Brunschwiler. The
practitioner follows the breath of the receiver, signaling manually before each submerging. The
partner wears a noseclip and is guided into the weightless, three-dimensionality of the underwater
world. Extensions, stretches, flexions, dolphin-like movements and snake-like rhythms release not
only on the physical level, but allow the deepest states of relaxation and meditation to be
experienced, sometimes even returning us to memories of the womb. The dive reflex activates and
the breath and heart rate slow down. It is a profound therapy, in which time and space lose their
meaning. Life and being become a flow. Regression often occurs in which wounds from the past
can be effortlessly processed. WaterDance offers us, on the one hand, a strong and powerful
therapeutic instrument, and on the other hand, a form of energy work and bodywork. Play,
surrender, flow and harmony all combine in a unique manner in the warm water.

AQUATERNATIVES®The Royal practice created by Mary Theri Thomas
The practice of wisdom
AquaTherics® (AQTh) and AQUATERNATIVES® are life changing discoveries of who and
what you truly are. This is how it works, how it makes me feel good; it helps me to experience the
nature of happiness, the nature of goodness.
What makes practice especially interesting that you are not just learning: „..be opened, be neutral;
do not squeeze muscles, hang your bones, find the core...“ You are changing your energy patterns,
the way your energy flows. The pattern is expressed in your muscles and tissues, and this is where
you will feel the changes taking place. Consistent working, listening to your inner voice, truly
digesting the Teacher's words plus meditation practice will improve the way energy flows and this
will change the way you experience yourself - transforming the way you perceive and relate to the
world.
After acquaintance with AQTh program my lovely wounded back started to heel.
I have hernia L4/5 and swollen disc L5/ S1; the water sessions started to kill me. My incorrect
standing troubled my back. My heart wanted to „create, help, give“- I was too much „in the
person“. I was not interested in my own body. Hardness in the lower back, tension in the arms when
I was holding the person, heavy chest - I was in pain and my mind started to close. I started to use
anesthetics to be „in shape“ and not to cry while giving the sessions. During the workshops I was
totally on medicine but tried to find „comfort even in the discomfort“. But the day came when I
could not step out of the water...I pushed myself to the edge and later spend some months between
the bed and chiropractor's hands. I wanted to find the answer why I became a small, compressed,
suffering thing. Pain comes only when the body does not understand how to do/ to give. In the
correct position pain does not come. My pain was a great philosopher and teacher which educated
me how to live. I had only two ways to confront the pain: to live with it forever or to work with the
pain, lessen it and feel the transformation some day.
I invoked and was blessed to meet “Steely Theri“ during the workshop. It was: „WOW... I was
baking like a cake under her fiery look“...She is not hard like the iron or steel, she is like a
diamond. The hardness of a diamond is part of its usefulness but its true value is in the light that
shines through it. I understood it later after a year of questioning: „Who I am?“
The art of AQT lies in the acuity of observation. When I started to ask myself „What I am doing?“,
„Why I am doing this or that?“, „Does the client need this?“, it started to open my mind. I hope my
self awareness started to grow. When you „give“, you have to recharge your awareness all the time.
The moment you collapse, you do not recharge, the attention disperses. The client collapses, too.
The moment you bring attention, you are creating something, and it has life and energy.
I was not fond of stillness in the water. After AQT program my attitude changed. Stillness is
dynamic; it's life in harmony with itself, skill in action. It can be experienced whenever there is total
unhindered participation in the moment you are in – when you are wholeheartedly present with
whatever you are doing.
Awareness allows me to overcome tiredness and exhaustion in giving water sessions and in my life.
Extension is attention, expansion is awareness. They originate in the core. When I extend and
expand I am not only „go to“, but also go „from“. I started to notice the space when I started to
design the movement or send it from the core. When I realized this I try to extend and expand the
person in my arms. Because I know from my body – the space brings Freedom. From the freedom
of the body comes freedom of the mind; the person feels oneness with the Universe.
Horizontal expansion and vertical extension should synchronize both in me and in the client.
I am more clear that the skin is the brain in the body. When I extend from the core to my skin, I
send the impulse to the person in my arms to extend, too. Our nerve endings extend, they open and
can throw out their stored impurities. When I stand in „lunge“ with my hands opened and extended,
I can see and feel the fingers of my hands in front of me.
I learned to step out from the brain, from the wish „to help, to be good, to give perfect Watsu“. I
started to sense the position of my body and to move with intelligence.
What I understand about my body in the water I take to my midwifery and yoga practices; I polish
my movements in the water to be stable on the ground; I do not think about the breath nor about the
the meaning of love. Simply experience and trust my unique feeling emanating from the heart.

Discover how to feel balanced, centered, coordinated, increase your soul flexibility, eliminate pain,
and become free of life's negativity through the spirit and practice of AquaTherics:))
It's about how you do what you do, and how you live your daily life on a moment.
You will feel renewed, strong in mind and body, and your life will take on new meaning and new
fulfilling directions.
Best regards for the seekers, Jurgita Svediene, Lithuania

Presented Material: Watsu® jako jedna z form kompleksowej rehabilitacji dzieci
niepełnosprawnych
Watsu® as a one of the forms of comprehensive rehabilitation of handicap children.
Terapia w wodzie stanowi jedną z form wieloprofilowego i kompleksowego usprawniania dzieci
czasem zabawy, źródłem miłych i łagodnych doznań sensorycznych. Stosując techniki Watsu, czy
Zen Shiatsu, stymulując określone części ciała możemy w szybki sposób uzyskać zamierzony efekt
terapeutyczny.

relaksacyjne. Zastosowywanie w wodzie coraz bardziej wyszukanego specjalistycznego sprzętu i
urządzeń staje się coraz bardziej powszechne /np. rowery do Aqua cyclingu, bieżnie, suwnice,
hydrosteppery itp.
