Principles of reference to other publications in articles
Principles of reference to other publications in articles submitted for publication in the EDUKACJA quarterly Reference to a publication consists of: reference in the text description of a publication in the list of literature. Every reference may refer to only one description. At least one reference should refer to each description. References A reference consists of a name of the author and year of publication: (Kowalski, 2001) or Kowalski (2001). The first name of the author in first reference to her/ his texts should be given: Jan Kowalski (2001). Provision of the first name or initial of the first name in the reference is not permitted: (J. Kowalski, 2001). If the author is an institution, its full name is provided: (Central Statistical Office, 2009). If a publication is not dated, in place of the year, specify “n.d.”: Kowalski (n.d.), (Nowoczesna rodzina, n.d.). If the description of literature features more than one publication of the author published in the same year, in the reference and in the description, it is necessary to differentiate them by letters added after the year, without space: (Kowalski, 2001a). If a publication has two authors, both names are provided with the conjunction “and”: (Kowalski and Nowak, 2001) or Kowalski and Nowak (2001). If there are more authors, the “and” conjunction is placed before the last name: (Kowalski, Nowak and Kwiatkowska, 2001). If there are between 3 and 5 authors, all names are listed in the first reference only: (Kowalski, Nowak and Kwiatkowska, 2001). In subsequent references to this publication, only the first name is provided with adding “et al.”: (Kowalski et al., 2001). If there are more than 5 authors, only the first name is provided in all references with “et al.”. References may be combined in one bracket, observing alphabetical and not chronological order: (Kowalski, 2001, 2007; Nowak, 1993). If a reference is next to the quotation, the page number is provided in the reference: (Kowalski, 2001, p. 123). If the author refers to a publication known only from description by an author of another publication, reference with the preposition “after” refers to the same publication (Nowakowski, 1998, after: Zieniecka, 2007). On the other hand, in the list of literature, it is necessary to specify only the work where such description is included (in this case: Zieniecka, 2007).
