Remember
The earth prepares to sleep and it covers itself with leaves for warmth, with water for food, with wind for
silence, with snow for an extra blanket. Going to sleep, rest from a weary journey in the cycle of life, is the gift of
creation. All who have gone before us rest with the earth, in the earth, awaiting the final day of resurrection, a day of
joy which is a part of the faith we profess each Sunday in the Creed. Until that day comes, we remember them, we
pray for them, we put flowers at their gravesites, we talk to them, reminisce, laugh, cry, and pray again. The memory
keeps them alive.
Today I get to celebrate my 50th birthday with all those memories and loved ones who celebrate with me in
spirit, from All Saints and Calvary right here in Kraków where the flickering of thousands of candles lights the sky in
memory of all those who now rest, where we too will someday rest, where together we will wait for that final glorious union before our Creator and Judge. I will celebrate life present, past and future and thank God for it all: happiness and sadness, joy and sorrow, dreams and reality. I thank all of you at St. Stanislaus for contributing to any one
of those for they each help to refine the soul.
I hope many of you will be able to attend next Saturday evening’s concert, Requiem Aeternam, a combination of wonderful readings, prayers and music sure to move you, to allow you to remember, to talk with your loved
ones, to participate in beauty of word and song and sound. If you are free, please don’t pass up the opportunity to
experience an event as this. Invite your friends as well, anyone who you feel might really benefit from an evening
alone with a crowd of lovers and believers.

PASTORAL MESSAGE
B E HOLY AS I AM HOLY
During the month of November, it is a venerable Catholic
tradition to recall our faithful departed — Saints and Poor Souls
alike — invoking their intercession for us and praying on their
behalf. At Saint Stanislaus we
have a particularly tender devotion of prayerfully reading the
names of our beloved dead before each Mass. We also sponsor
an annual concert of sacred music (this year on November 9)
during which we enjoy the peaceful contemplation of Gregorian
chant. Throughout the whole month we are invited to place taper candles into containers in the sanctuary as a prayerful reminder of the presence of the Communion of Saints at the
Eucharist. Indeed, in a most special way, those who enjoy the
presence of the Lord face to face at the heavenly banquet are
very present to us at every celebration of the Eucharist.
All of this serves to remind us that everyone is called
to become holy as God is holy. Our baptism demands this of
us, and the sacraments empower us for the vital task of sanctification. Those men who are set aside to serve the Church as her
priests are called in a special way to bear the Sacred for the
sake of others. The scriptures this weekend are potent reminders of what happens when religious leaders forget their essential
and primary call to be holy.
Those who are ordained as priests in the Roman
Catholic Church share in a great call given by the Lord himself.
Those priests who serve in parishes face a special set of challenges in their quest for personal holiness. The work demands
of a busy parish community circumscribe his time and impose
on his personal living space. The scandalous events of recent
months have been even more taxing on priestly identity.
Every two years the Diocese of Cleveland sponsors a
two day convocation for the priests who serve here. Last week
the convocation welcomed a larger number of priests than had
never responded before. The range of topics and presentations
invited priests to evaluate our clerical culture and ask what
kinds of revisions need to be made. The discussions were actually a very moving experience of faith-sharing among these servants of God.
Of the many concerns these priests raised as challenges to their priestly lives, the vast majority cited losing touch
with the spiritual disciplines needed to grow in holiness. Many
priests said they didn’t have enough time for personal prayer,
the study of sacred scripture, and homily preparation. When
they reflected on the factors that lead to this situation, almost
universally they cite the work loads they need to carry. One
young priest was recently assigned to be pastor of a parish with
almost three thousand families — more than twice the size of
St. Stanislaus — a thousand kids in PSR, and a huge debt to
retire. He will be alone, not given an assistant pastor to help
him. How do we expect these guys to grow in personal holiness when there is barely enough time to breathe?
This month, when we consider our universal call to
holiness, please include a special prayer for priests, so that
we, too, may be able to set aside time for the vital task of
our own personal growth in the Lord and in the sanctific a tion of the People of God.

Mimo, i¿ ró¿norodnoœæ kulturowa kraju w którym ¿yjemy
niekoniecznie sk³ania nas do listopadowej zadumy, to wcale nie
znaczy, ¿e nie wolno nam poddaæ siê choæ przez chwilê temu nastrojowi i zastanowiæ siê nad spotkaniami co przychodz¹ same , a których
przecie¿ nie da siê w ¿yciu unikn¹æ.
Dla nas, Polaków, pocz¹tek listopada to mimo wszystko
bardziej czas wspominania tych, którzy odeszli ni¿ poddawania siê
niby radosnemu nastrojowi Halloween. Nie znaczy to, ¿e mamy zabraniaæ dzieciom przebieraæ za ró¿ne stwory i zbieraæ ³akocie. Ale te¿ nie
znaczy, ¿e mamy zapomnieæ, i¿ Wszystkich Œwiêtych i Dzieñ
Zaduszny to bratanie siê z naszymi bliskimi, którzy s¹ po tamtej stronie, ¿e to czas oswajania siê ze œmierci¹, która przecie¿ przyjdzie do
ka¿dego z nas.
Przekazuj¹c najwa¿niejsze wartoœci m³odym pokoleniom,
przynajmniej spróbujmy nie zapomnieæ, ¿e w naszej europejskiej i
chrzeœcijañskiej kulturze wa¿ne miejsce zajmuje œwiadomoœæ obecnoœci naszych bliskich ju¿ z “tamtej strony”.
Mimo wszystko warto przejœæ z humorystcznego œwiata
duchów i potworów ostatniego dnia paŸdziernika w pe³n¹ wiary obecnoœæ tych, którzy ju¿ od nas odeszli; choæ raz w roku odwiedziæ ca³¹
rodzin¹ cmentarz i wyt³umaczyæ najm³odszym, ¿e œmieræ to nie tragedia i rozpacz, ani tym bardziej ¿art. Bo œmieræ to nieunikniona rzeczywistoœæ, niekoniecznie tragiczna.
Rozmawiaj¹c z dziecmi o ich snach, ³atwo mo zna spostrzec,
ile w ich wyobra zni, podsycanej potworami z gier komputerowych i
kreskówek telewizyjnych, kryje sie leku, niepokoju, grozy smierci i
zastraszenia. Potwory tworza potworny i koszmarny swiat.
Ten lêk bêdzie obcy tylko tym dzieciom, których madrzy
rodzice oswoj¹ grozê œmierci z prawd a Jezusa, prawda zmartwychwstania, przezwyciezenia swiata zla, szatana i smierci.
Jednak dzisaj warto najpierw zapytaæ siebie: Czy ja jeszcze
naprawde wierzê w to, ze Jezus jest Panem zycia, ze przed Nim smierc
pierzcha z lekiem?
Dzieñ Zaduszny i ca³y listopad przypomina nam
nieobecnych… Odeszli mniej lub bardziej niespodziewanie, zostawili
jednak niezatarty œlad w naszej pamiêci. Wspomnijmy ich nieobecnych tu na ziemi, ale obecnych po drugiej stronie ¿ycia.

LET THEM PRAY FOR THE DEAD. The month of November is traditionally set aside for the prayerful remembrance of
the faithful departed. At Saint Stanislaus Church, we have a
special devotion to our loved ones who have been called from
this life into eternity. One very special way we bring our beloved deceased to prayer is by sending their names to be inscribed in the Book of Life, from which we pray at the beginning of each Mass in November. The October envelope packet
contains a special envelope for sending in names, or you may
use your own. People can drop them into the collection basket
at Mass, or they may be mailed to the rectory. PLEASE,
PLEASE, PLEASE! PRINT YOUR NAMES LEGIBLY. In
many cases the names written on the envelopes are almost impossible to read due to poor handwriting! Remember please PRINT.
REQUIEM AETERNAM The Schola Cantorum from Cleveland’s Church of the Immaculate Conception will present a concert of Sacred Music to commemorate the Feast of All Souls.
Gregorian Chant, Renaissance motets and organ works will be

THE DAD’S CLUB currently is planning a Valentines
Dance before Lent in 2003. We will keep you posted. Thank
You. Don’t forget t he Dad’s Club Memorial Service at 7:30
PM, this Tuesday. The regular meeting will be held after the
service.
GOLDEN AGERS FALL SOCIAL St. Stanislaus Golden
Agers will be sponsoring their Fall Social next Sunday at 1:00
PM. It will be a great opportunity to socialize and have fun. Numerous games and other activities will be available and a light
lunch will be served. Their regular meeting will be Thursday,
Nov. 14th, at 2:00 PM, in the social center. Blood pressure
screening will be available.
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL BLANKET
SUNDAY! Our Blanket Sunday Collection generated 47 blankets, 77 sheets and pillowcases, 20 towels and washcloths, 5
bags of miscellaneous items and $276.00 in cash contributions.
The donations and proceeds were given to the Catholic Diocese
St. Vincent DePaul Society for distribution to the poor. A sincere thank you to all parishioners who assisted through their
donations and prayers and to John Sklodowski for his aid in
coordinating this event. If you forgot to contribute, there is still
time to consider a cash donation.
CENTRAL CATHOLIC NEWS. Cleveland Central Catholic
High School is sponsoring a freshman admission test on November 13 at 3:30 PM, December 7 at 9:00 AM, and January 11 at
9:00 AM. No registration is required. There is a $15 fee for the test.
Call the Admissions Office at 216-441-8354. Central Catholic is
also sponsoring a Robotics Craft Fair on November 9. Tables are
