To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. V: Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R/: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Retiring Procession: St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. Beautiful Savior 1. Beautiful Savior, King of creation, Son of God and Son of Man! Truly I’d love thee, Truly I’d serve thee, Light of my soul, my joy, my crown. 2. Fair are the meadows, Fair are the woodlands, Robed in flow'rs of blooming spring; Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer, He makes our sorr'wing spirit sing. 3. Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight, Bright the sparkling stars on high; Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer Than all the angels in the sky. 4. Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations, Son of God and Son of Man! Glory and honor, Praise, adoration, Now and forevermore be thine! At this time, people come together to pray and be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Consider bringing someone with you...or bring their concerns, fears and struggles and speak with our Lord about them. We may convince ourselves that it is the poor who are favored. In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that there are other gifts more important than material wealth, but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most. Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is more valuable than worldly possessions. In Hebrews, we are challenged to look at our own values and admit honestly what controls our lives. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. All good things together came to me in her company (Wisdom 7:7-11). Psalm — Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy! (Psalm 90). Second Reading — Indeed the word of God is living and effective (Hebrews 4:12-13). Gospel — It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God (Mark 10:17-30 [17-27]). Are you a college student, retired adult, or servant-hearted person with M-F 9am-5pm availability, looking to build your resume or lend a hand? Starting at the end of October onward, your help is needed to prepare bottles (clean, tag, and box them) for our next Baby Bottle Campaign so they can be sent to churches and schools. The spare change we collect in this campaign is our biggest fundraiser! It is a perfect project for a group who enjoy each others’ company while working on a project as well as for those who enjoy working alone and in silence. We are located at 5116 N. Cicero Ave. (just south of Foster, off 94). Hours are flexible and we offer shifts of 9am-noon, 1-4pm, or other weekly hours preferable to your schedule. Or spend the entire day with us: clean bottles 9am-12noon, attend Mass in our chapel at noon, eat lunch, then help until 4-5pm. Please let me know if you are interested. Contact: Paige at [email protected] or 773.794.8807 for more details or to learn of other volunteer opportunities at The Women’s Center. October is Respect Life month and our parish is participating in The Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women’s Centers of Greater Chicago land. Please take a Baby Bottle home, fill it with spare change, and return it the weekend of October 24 &25th. Thank you for helping defend life, and remember to keep all pro-life undertakings in your prayers. October 11- “The fundamental human right, the presupposition of every other right, is the right to life itself. This is true of life from the moment of conception until its natural end. Abortion, consequently, cannot be a human right — it is the very opposite. It is a deep wound in society.” Pope Benedict XVI Pray to end abortion. 10 Keep in mind. . .
