The next Religious Education
(CCD) class will be held on
January 22, 2011. Students will come at the regular
time 8:00 A.M. for class. Parents can begin coming at
9:00 A.M. to pick up their child’s report card. Students
may leave with their parents.

Federal Holiday the rectory will be
close, Monday, January 17, 2011. We

Martin Luther King, Jr. led the Civil Rights Movement of
the 1960s. He organized nonviolent marches to protest segregation and racial injustice. This peaceful means of protest
is known as passive resistance. His 1963 "I Have a Dream"
speech dealing with peace and racial equality is one of the
most powerful speeches in American history. Dr. King was
assassinated by a gunman in 1968.
Yearly Church Donation Statement
If you would like to receive a statement of your
yearly donations to the parish, please call the
rectory office (708) 652-0948, Ext. 20 between the
hours of 9am and 5pm—Monday through Friday.
The receptionist will prepare the statement so that
when you come to pick it up it will be ready.
A Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 18th at Woodbine School at 6:30 P.M.. Everyone is invited
to this meeting to discuss important issues of concern..
HAVING YOU SEEN THOSE ADS ON TV?
During Advent and Christmas the Archdiocese of Chicago has
partnered with the Dioceses of Joliet and Rockford on an evangelization initiative called Catholics Come Home. This effort
will use TV commercials that will air through January 2011 on
most networks in English, Spanish and Polish. We encourage
our parishioners to pray for those who have left the Church and
invite them to join us at St. Mary of Czestochowa. Parishioners can pick up a brochure or bulletin to be used as an invitation for those who have drifted from the practice of the faith.

2011 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL
“…seek first the kingdom of God…” (Matthew 6:33)
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Living life well—in the Church, in our families, in the workplace,
and as citizens of our nation and the whole world – is a joy and a
challenge. Today we face new complications: new means of electronic communication, from e-mail to Facebook that connect us
but make even more demands on our time and attention; the new
global economy opens new possibilities for prosperity but at the
same time makes us more vulnerable to financial disaster, as we
are very aware. Developments in medicine prolong our lives but
don’t necessarily assure us a high quality of life. We all share in
the complexities of life today.
In the midst of the moral struggles of life, coupled with the added
complications of this moment in history, the Lord Jesus speaks to
us. He says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.” With these words, Jesus invites us both to trust God and to
take responsibility for our lives by surrendering them to Him.
God, as the prophet Isaiah proclaims, loves us with a love even
beyond a mother’s love and will never forget us. The heavenly
Father, as Jesus tells us, in his providential care feeds the birds of
the sky. Trust God in the struggles and the complications that you
meet.
Jesus also calls us to responsibility. Brothers and sisters, we are to
make decisions in the light of what is most important, what lasts
forever. Decide then to seek first the kingdom of God, and what
seemed to be unmanageable or even overwhelming will fall into
place. Recognize, as Saint Paul tells us in the second reading, that
you are servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
As stewards, God gives you real responsibility. Then, once you
have identified the heart of the matter and have embraced Jesus
Christ and the Kingdom of God that he proclaims and embodies, a
new clarity and a hope-filled confidence will take hold of you.
Together in the Church, we hold up to each other the invitation to
trust God and to accept responsibility for our lives with Him. Our
responsibilities before God lead to a changed way of life and a
deeply renewed hope and confidence. We help each other keep
our lives aligned with the Gospel. And we do this in very practical
ways.
In the Archdiocese of Chicago the Annual Catholic Appeal sustains Catholic schools, parishes, programs of religious education
and ministerial formation, and initiatives to foster respect for life
and make the world more just, peaceful and loving. Through its
support of Catholic Relief Services, the Appeal serves people
worldwide, without regard for religious affiliation, those whose
lives are devastated by illnesses, wars and famines, and by natural
disasters, such as the earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. We offer
opportunities to nourish the spiritual lives of people. Every element of our mission, every single piece serves one grand purpose:
to proclaim to the world and to ourselves—Seek first the kingdom
of God…

The Annual Catholic Appeal is a time to examine priorities and
to renew our support for the mission of the Church in the Archdiocese of Chicago, this portion of the Body of Christ that proclaims here and serves now the Kingdom of God. As good stewards of the mysteries of Jesus Christ, please join me in making a
generous gift that enables the word of Jesus to continue to be
heard and the ways of God’s kingdom to be made visible and
practical.
Dear sisters and brothers, your lives of faith, lived in trust and
responsibility and generosity, are a deep inspiration for me. I
thank God for you. And I pray for you and ask for your prayers
for me that we may continue on the way to the fullness of life
that the Lord promises to all who follow Him.
May God bless and keep you, in this life and the next – here and
in his eternal kingdom.

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A
John 1:29-34
John testifies that Jesus is the Lamb of God, God's own Son.
Background on the Gospel
This Sunday we break from our reading of Matthew's Gospel (the primary Gospel for our current liturgical cycle, Cycle A) to read from John's Gospel. We heard Matthew's account of Jesus' baptism last Sunday, on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Today, we hear John the Baptist's testimony about Jesus as found in John's Gospel. John's Gospel
differs from the other Gospels because John does not describe Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist. Instead, John the
Baptist announces that he knows that Jesus is the Son of
God.
In today's reading, John the Baptist sees Jesus approaching
and cries out, giving witness about who Jesus is. In John's
testimony he says that he saw the Spirit descend upon Jesus.
By this sign, John the Baptist knew that Jesus was the one
who is to come after him.
John the Baptist uses two titles for Jesus that are familiar to
us. John calls Jesus the “Lamb of God” and the “Son of
God.” By using these titles, John the Baptist identifies Jesus'
ultimate purpose: to redeem sinful humanity.
John the Baptist's testimony about Jesus clearly distinguishes John's baptism from the Baptism that Jesus will inaugurate. John baptizes with water; Jesus will baptize with
the Holy Spirit. John also puts his practice of baptism in the
context of Jesus' ministry. The purpose of John's baptism
was to make Jesus known to Israel.
John the Baptist's sense of purpose is clearly identified in
this reading: he baptized in order to prepare for and make
known the ministry of the One who was to follow. John's
witness is an excellent example of what it means to be a
disciple. By our Baptism, we are called to make Jesus
known to all the world by our words and by the witness of
our lives.

Entonces Juan dio este testimonio: "Vi al Espíritu

bautizar con agua me dijo: 'Aquel sobre quien veas
que baja y se posa el Espíritu Santo, ése es el que ha
de bautizar con el Espíritu Santo.' Pues bien, yo lo vi
y doy testimonio de que éste es el Hijo de Dios."

la primera comunión este año necesita traer su

Las clases comienzan a las 8:00 A. M. tiempo regular. La conferencia entre padres y catequista comenzaran a las 9:00 A. M. Después de que los padres hayan hablado con la catequista los estudiantes podrán irse a casa con sus padres.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en
Cristo,
El año pasado fue particularmente
devastador para la Iglesia en América
Latina. Los terremotos en Haití y Chile provocaron la pérdida de miles de
vidas de estas regiones. Además, estos
desastres naturales causaron daños sin
precedentes tanto a las estructuras
físicas como a los frágiles recursos de
la Iglesia y de sus feligreses. Durante los últimos cuarenta
y cinco años, las contribuciones a la Colecta para la Iglesia en América Latina han asegurado que el pueblo de
América del Sur y del Caribe experimente el amor del
Señor en los sacramentos y en fuertes comunidades de fe.
Esta colecta proporciona financiamiento para la formación de los seminaristas, religiosos y catequistas, como
así como para ministerios pastorales como la evangelización. Obviamente, tomará muchos años reconstruir las
iglesias y las escuelas devastadas en esta región, pero a
través de su generoso apoyo, la Iglesia en América Latina
recuperará su fuerte presencia en las doscientos diócesis
del hemisferio sur.
Por favor, sepan que estoy agradecido por el apoyo que
presta a su parroquia local, a la Arquidiócesis y a la Iglesia Universal. Que Dios siga bendiciéndolo, a usted y sus

mnie. Ja Go przedtem nie znałem, ale przyszedłem chrzcić wodą w tym celu, aby On się objawił Izraelowi. Jan dał takie świadectwo: Ujrzałem Ducha, który jak gołębica zstępował z nieba
i spoczął na Nim. Ja Go przedtem nie znałem,
ale Ten, który mnie posłał, abym chrzcił wodą,
powiedział do mnie: Ten, nad którym ujrzysz
Ducha zstępującego i spoczywającego nad
Nim, jest Tym, który chrzci Duchem Świętym. Ja
to ujrzałem i daję świadectwo, że On jest Synem Bożym.

Czym jest modlitwa
Modlitwa jest to otwarcie się człowieka na Boga. Modlitwa jest tym
lepsza, im głębsza jest nasza wiara: im lepsze jest nasze życie - pełne zaufania Opatrzności Bożej, Jego Miłości i Miłosierdziu, pełne
służby bezinteresownej bliźniemu.
Ale z drugiej strony, aby życie było dobre, potrzebna jest człowiekowi dobra modlitwa. Bez
niej coraz mniej stać człowieka na prawdziwą
miłość.
Jezus sam często się modlił i podkreślał wielokrotnie, że modlitwa jest każdemu człowiekowi
nieodzownie potrzebna.
Każda modlitwa powinna być dla człowieka uciszeniem, uspokojeniem przed Bogiem. Powinna
być spojrzeniem pełnym zachwytu dla Jego
piękna, miłości, potęgi i mądrości.
Może to być nasze otworzenie się na Boga wtedy, gdy przerażeni, zmartwieni, przygnębieni,
zatroskani prosimy Go gorąco o spełnienie czegoś, co jest dla nas bardzo ważne, na czym
nam bardzo zależy. I prosimy Go o ratunek, o
ochronę, o zdrowie, pracę, egzamin, życie domowe - to mogą być nasze problemy albo problemy naszych najbliższych.
Może to być otworzenie się na Boga, gdy radośni dziękujemy za otrzymane łaski, za spełnione
nasze prośby i błagania, za pomoc i opiekę, za
osiągnięcia i uratowanie od nieszczęścia.

Albo gdy jeszcze oszołomieni Jego mądrością,
potęgą, pięknem, wspaniałomyślnością, która
choćby na moment nam się odkryła, mówimy
Mu słowa naszego uwielbienia.
Albo gdy pełni skruchy, pokory, żalu i gotowi do
zadośćuczynienia przepraszamy Go, żeśmy od
Niego odeszli, że życie nasze nie było zgodne z
Jego wolą, żeśmy dopuścili się krzywdy przeciwko ludziom. Wtedy modlitwa
jest również spojrzeniem na
siebie Jego oczami, aktem samokontroli.
I tak modlitwy możemy podzielić na: uwielbienia, przeproszenia, dziękczynienia i prośby. Każda angażuje całego człowieka:
jego uczucia i wolę, nie jest wyłącznie aktem
intelektualnym.
Modlitwa ma rozmaite formy. Może być prywatna - osobista i publiczna - społeczna. Każda
modlitwa chrześcijanina - nie tylko społeczna,
ale nawet najbardziej prywatna - nie jest prywatna w sensie świeckim. Modlimy się do Ojca z
Chrystusem - to Chrystus modli się z nami do
swojego Ojca.
Czuwanie Nocne
Zapraszamy na czuwanie nocne połączone z nabożeństwem
wynagradzającym Najświętszemu Sercu Pana Jezusa i Niepokalanemu Sercu Maryi, które będzie miało miejsce w naszej parafii
w czwartą sobotę miesiąca tj. 22-go stycznia w godzinach od 6:30
PM do 10:00 PM. Serdecznie zapraszamy na wspólną modlitwę.
Odwiedziny Duszpasterskie
Czas Bożego Narodzenia to czas duszpasterskiego odwiedzania rodzin, popularnie zwany kolędą. Z tej też
okazji zachęcamy rodziny do kontaktowania się z wybranym przez siebie kapłanem w celu zaproszenia Go w progi swego domu. Jest to polska tradycja, która ma na celu
bliższe poznanie parafian, ich problemów oraz wspólną
modlitwę z kapłanem w gronie rodziny.
