Instrukcja dla ucznia
Sprawdź, czy test zawiera 10 stron. Ewentualny brak stron lub inne usterki zgłoś
Komisji.
Czytaj uważnie wszystkie zadania.
Pisz czytelnie i używaj tylko długopisu lub pióra z czarnym lub niebieskim
tuszem/atramentem. Nie używaj korektora.
Test, do którego przystępujesz, zawiera 8 zadań. Wśród nich są zadania zamknięte
i zadania otwarte wymagające krótkiej oraz dłuższej odpowiedzi.
W każdym zadaniu zamkniętym wybierz tylko jedną odpowiedź i napisz
odpowiadającą jej literę w odpowiedniej rubryce (w zadaniach ABCD) lub zaznacz
odpowiednia rubrykę (w zadaniach TRUE/FALSE) na karcie odpowiedzi (do
zaznaczania odpowiedzi nie można używać ołówka).
Staraj się nie popełniać błędów przy zaznaczaniu odpowiedzi, ale jeśli się pomylisz,
błędne rozwiązanie skreśl i napisz inną odpowiedź.
Za każdą poprawnie udzieloną odpowiedź otrzymasz jeden lub pół punktu, a za
odpowiedzi błędne lub brak odpowiedzi – zero punktów.
W zadaniach otwartych, zapisz odpowiedzi starannie i czytelnie w miejscach
wyznaczonych na karcie odpowiedzi. Pomyłki przekreślaj (nie stosuj korektora).
Podczas trwania konkursu nie możesz korzystać ani z pomocy naukowych, ani z
podpowiedzi kolegów – narażasz ich i siebie na dyskwalifikację. Nie wolno Ci również
zwracać się z jakimikolwiek wątpliwościami do członków Komisji.
Do etapu wojewódzkiego zakwalifikują się uczniowie, którzy zdobędą minimum 40
punktów na 50 możliwych.
Na udzielenie odpowiedzi masz 75 minut.

I. READING

Przeczytaj uważnie poniższe wypowiedzi czterech osób. Na podstawie zawartych w nich
informacji odpowiedz na pytania od 1 do 6, wpisując w kratki obok pytań odpowiednie
litery. Przenieś je na kartę odpowiedzi. Za każdą poprawną odpowiedź otrzymasz 1
punkt.
A Northland College judge from New Zealand who regularly deals with troubled youth has
offered the following words:
The Judge:
We always hear the cry from teenagers ‘I'm so bored, there's nothing to do around here.’ My
answer is, “Go home, mow the lawn, wash the windows, learn to cook, build a raft, get a job,
visit the sick, study your lessons, and after you’ve finished, read a book. Your town does not
owe you recreational facilities and your parents do not owe you fun. The world does not owe
you a living, you owe the world something. You owe it your time, energy and talent so that no
one will be at war, in poverty or sick and lonely again. In other words, grow up, stop being a
cry baby, get out of your dream world and develop a backbone, not a wishbone. Start
behaving like a responsible person. You are important and you are needed. It’s too late to sit
around and wait for somebody to do something someday. Someday is now and that somebody
is you.
Jake:
At first I thought the Judge had some good points. Sure, he's very angry, so I made allowances
for it being a little intolerant. Especially of youth, as he has to convict them all the time. The
problem is that it's one big finger pointing at the bored kid who acted out in some socially
unacceptable fashion, and that big finger just says it's your fault! And no doubt many things
are their fault. But here's something the Judge doesn't take into consideration: overwhelming
peer pressure and raging hormones. But worse than this is the fact that today is an era crying
out for role models that actually inspire kids. Who can they turn to? With divorce rates as high
as they are, marriage and parenthood are probably not being modelled. With Internet and TV
addiction and work overload among adults, who are these kids supposed to look up to? Is it
any wonder kids today long for entertainment and escape? So while the Judge certainly can
point his finger at this hypothetical kid, there’s a finger pointing right back, asking who this
Judge is and what he’s actually done to help make this world a place the kid actually wants to
belong to.
Laura:
I agree with what Jake said about the obstacles faced by young people. It would be hard to
overcome all of that. But just because it is hard, doesn’t mean they can’t do it. I am a middle
school teacher and something I have noticed in my ten years of teaching is that some students
show up with an “entertain me” attitude. College courses in teacher prep even talk about having teachers trick kids into learning. I feel like this is not the way to go. We need to teach our
kids that even if something is hard, they can do it. I guess what I’m saying is, the judge’s
opinion isn’t all bad. I just wish it would have added a note to adults, “Make a boat with your
child, read a novel together, talk about problems in the world that need to be solved. Tell the
kid they can do things even when they seem impossible.” I have known a number of kids in
the past that would really feel liberated by this Judge’s speech. They are the independent ones
who want to do everything on their own. Let this inspire those kids, and for the rest - they

won’t listen anyway. For them, us adults will have to show them a few times, do it with them
for a while. And, that’s OK.
Sharon:
I’ve raised seven kids, all of whom were diagnosed with some level of learning disability. I
have fourteen grandchildren. When we are blessed with precious innocent children, it is our
job as parents to teach them respect and responsibility. It is not our job to be their buddy, nor
to spoil them to the point of being stupid, nor to expect nothing of them. We are here to teach
them; not stifle their independent thought or imagination. We must encourage them, show
them they can stand on their own two feet, teach them to fly. So that when it is time for them
to leave the nest, they can fly high!
