OF
THE
2ND
CHAMPIONSHIP
IN
THROWING ON (AN ELECTRIC) POTTER’S WHEEL
1. THE ORGANIZER AND THE TIME OF THE EVENT
1.1. The Organizer of the Championship in Throwing on a Potter’s Wheel, referred to
hereinafter as “the Championship”, is the Cultural Centre of Bolesławiec - the International
Ceramics Centre with its office at Pl. Piłsudskiego 1c, 59-700 Bolesławiec, and hereinafter it
shall be referred to as “the Organizer”.
1.2. The Championship is organized as part of the Bolesławiec Pottery Festival on 23rd
August from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
1.3. The championship’s venue shall be the old market square in Bolesławiec.
1.4. The championship is co-financed by the project called ACTION-ARGINET 2012-0943
2. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
2.1. To become a Championship’s participant, one must be a natural person and an adult with
full capacity to act in law. Such a person will be hereinafter referred to as “the Participant”.
2.2. The only ceramicists that will be considered must have graduated from a higher school of
art, students of the 4th and 5th years of a higher school of art, or people that have documented
experience in throwing on a potter’s wheel.
2.3. One of the participation requirements is to fulfill an application form (available at
www.bok.boleslawiec.pl , www.swietoceramiki.pl), attach a participant’s picture and send
these until 2nd August 2014. The application is to be delivered by post to the Cultural Centre
of Bolesławiec - the International Ceramics Centre at Pl. Piłsudskiego 1c, 59-700
Bolesławiec, with a note saying “Championship” or by e-mail to [email protected]
2.4. The Championship will be participated by a maximum of eight people whose application
forms will reach the Organizer within the time period mentioned in point 2.3 and who fulfill
the remaining requirements. The Organizer decides who (from among the received
applications) will be qualified for the Championship.
2.5. Information about candidates who qualify for the Championship will be posted on the
Organizer’s website at www.swietoceramiki.pl no later than on 9th August 2013.
2.6. A Championship’s Participant has the right to resign from the event until 11th August
2013. In such a case, the Organizer has the right to offer the vacant place to another person
from the standby list.
2.7. The Participant is obliged to acquaint himself or herself with the Rules of the
Championship. Fulfilling the Championship’s participation requirements is equal to accepting
all of the points of the Rules.
2.8. The Organizer shall not be liable for applications that will have not reached him for
reasons beyond his control.
2.9. Should a Participant provide the Organizer with false personal data or false personal data
of a third party, the Organizer shall not be held liable. If false data is provided, it shall
invalidate the Participant’s right to the prize.
2.10. By sending the application, the Participant agrees for his personal data to be processed
for the purposes of the Championship and the Bolesławiec Pottery Festival.
2.11. Participation in the Championship is free of charge.
2.12. The Championship’s coordinator is Edyta Orlińska – a ceramicist and an instructor at
Pracownia Ceramiczno-Rzeźbiarska BOK-MCC (a ceramics-sculpture artistic studio); tel.:

3. THE RULES OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP
3.1. The tasks of the Championship’s Participants include:
- throwing on a potter’s wheel the highest dish from stoneware clay provided by the
Organizer,
- throwing on a potter’s wheel the widest dish from stoneware clay provided by the Organizer,
- throwing four dishes (three bowls of specific diameters, one vase of the height given by the
Jury and of the form that will fit the mould) in a time period of 20 minutes, from 20 kg of
stoneware clay provided by the Organizer,
3.2. The Championship shall be moderated by the Organizer.
4. THE JURY’S DECISION AND PRIZES
4.1 Works shall be assessed by the Jury appointed by the Organizer.
4.2. The Jury’s decision is final and unquestionable.
4.3. The Jury shall assess:
- the technique of throwing,
- precision of the final work,
- accordance of the dish with the mould prepared by the Organizer,
- the dish’s thickness (in vertical section),
4.4. The Jury shall consider the factors listed in point 4.3 and shall award prizes for:
- 1st place,
- 2nd place,
- 3rd place,
4.5. Having consulted with the Jury, the Organizer has the right to nullify the awarding of a
prize for any place of the Championship.
4.6. The prizes of the Championship funded by the Organizer are:
1st place: PLN 500.00 and an invitation to the World Championship in Throwing on a Potter’s
Wheel in Faenza (Italy) in September 2014. The invitation covers the costs of a return plane
ticket. On the spot, board and accommodation will be provided by the organizer of the World
Championship in Faenza.
2nd place: PLN 300.00 + in-kind prize
3rd place: PLN 200.00 + in-kind prize
4.7. The prizes of the Championship cannot be exchanged for any other prize or a money
equivalent. The Organizer shall not bear responsibility for faults in the prizes nor does he
guarantee their quality.
4.8. The Championship’s winners cannot transfer the right to the prize to any third party.
4.9. The Organizer provides every Participant with dinner, beverages and accommodation
(from 23rd to 24th August 2014, one night)
5. ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE RESULTS
5.1. The Jury shall issue their decision and award the prizes on 23rd August 2014 at
approximately 7 p.m. at Plac Piłsudskiego. The results will also be posted on the Organizer’s
website at http://www.swietoceramiki.pl, www.bok.boleslawiec.pl
5.2. The Organizer shall not bear responsibility for the Participant’s inability to or difficulties
with collecting the prize if the reasons for this are on the part of the Participant.
5.3. If the Participant fails to collect his/her prize from the Organizer within two weeks from
the moment of the announcement of the results, he/she losses the right to the prize.
5.4. The Participants personal data needed for the Championship may be processed by the
Organizer solely for the information and marketing purposes of the Championship and the
Bolesławiec Pottery Festival. (The Polish personal data protection act: Dz. U. Nr 133/97, poz.
883).
5.5. Furthermore, the Participant renounces any remuneration claims for photographs of
his/her works or those taken during his/her work, and especially for the dissemination of
photographs on the website and other forms of public dissemination of pictures.
5.6. Works thrown on the wheel shall be photographed and become the property of the
Organizer.
6. FINAL PROVISIONS
6.1. The Rules are available at the Organizer’s office, i.e. at Pl. Piłsudskiego 1c and on the
Organizer’s websites www.swietoceramiki.pl , www.bok.boleslawiec.pl
6.2. Breaching the Championship’s Rules by the Participant shall be equal to his/her
disqualification.
6.3. To all matters not settled herein, the provisions of the Civil Code shall apply.
6.4. The Organizer reserves the right to introduce minor changes to the Rules.
