Levies paid byproducers andimporters of
copying devices(equipment levies)in Poland
Onthebasis ofArticle 20oftheCopyrightAct of1994producers and
importers ofdevicesandcarriers enabling copying audio,audiovisual,
text andimageworks are obligated topay tocollective management
organization acting tothebenefitofauthors,performers,producers
ofphonograms andvideograms,andpublishers,levies due fromthe
saleofthose devicesandcarriers.
Due to the Copyright Act – equipment levies are due at no more than
3% of the device’s or carrier’s retail price.

Consumers are being informed, that imposing levies on
smartphones and tablets shall raise prices of these devices by
100 PLN (23 EUR).
It’s easy to calculate, that imposing a levy in the amount of 1,5%
should raise prices by:
7,50 PLN (1,70 EUR) for a smartphone with capacity of 4 GB
costing 500 PLN
15 PLN (3,40 EURO) for a smarthopne with capacity of 16 GB,
costing 1000 PLN
