Sunday Collection, March 08, 2015
The parishes of the Archdiocese
of Chicago are in the midst of a
capital campaign entitled To
Teach Who Christ Is. The goal of
the campaign is to raise a minimum of $350 million to strengthen parishes, Catholic education
and faith formation. All 353 parishes in the archdiocese will participate in the campaign. 107 parishes have already completed
the campaign and have raised more than $141 million. Gifts to
the campaign will benefit six elements vital to the future of the
Archdiocese of Chicago.
$150 MILLION FOR PARISHES
Ensuring parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago are strong and
vibrant communities of faith is the primary mission of To Teach
Who Christ Is. Therefore, 60% of all funds raised at each parish
will remain with the parish to address local, pressing needs.
Here at St. Mary of Czestochowa’s we will use our share to repair the Church organ and floor, and the rectory roof.
$150 MILLION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
The Catholic Education Scholarship Trust will fund scholarship
programs directly benefitting families across the Archdiocese of
Chicago.
$8 MILLION FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
To Teach Who Christ Is will help strengthen the academic excellence of our Catholic schools through early childhood programs,
curriculum enhancements, technology integration and infrastructure, professional development and blended learning programs.
$30 MILLION FOR FACITY LIFE SAFETY
To Teach Who Christ Is campaign address urgently needed
repairs in economically distressed parishes.
$10 MILLION FOR CATECHIST TRAINING
To Teach Who Christ Is will provide funds for the catechetical
training and certification of religious education coordinators and
youth ministers, and the ongoing formation of certified religious
education directors as well as other certified catechetical leaders.
$2 MILLION FOR INNOVATION IN RELIGOUS EDUCATION
To Teach Who Christ Is seeks to provide funds to identify, study
and replicate the current best approaches to religious education.
Each parish has been assigned a target goal for the
campaign. The goal for our parish is $405,000. Keep in mind
that we are asking families to consider a pledge over five years,
so the goal is attainable. The really good news is that we have
already received pledges totaling $139,000 from 7 families. That
is 34% of our goal. We want to thank those families who have
given so generously to the campaign. In the coming weeks, parish volunteers will be calling on families to ask for your support.
When they call you, we hope you will welcome them into your
home with an open heart. Thank you.

Fourth Sunday of Lent
John 3:14-21
Jesus tells Nicodemus that the Son
of Man will be raised up so that
those who believe in him will have
eternal life.
Background on the Gospel Reading
The fourth Sunday of Lent is sometimes called Laetare
Sunday. Laetare is a Latin word that means “rejoice.” Traditionally, Sundays are named after the first word of the liturgy's opening
antiphon. On this Sunday, the antiphon is taken from the book of
the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 66:10-11). Even as we observe our
Lenten sacrifices, we rejoice in anticipation of the joy that will be
ours at Easter.
Today's Gospel reading is taken from John's Gospel. It
consists of two parts. The first part is the final sentence of Jesus'
reply to Nicodemus, the Pharisee who approached Jesus at night.
Nicodemus acknowledged Jesus as someone who had come
from God and seemed to want to be a follower of Jesus. Jesus
greeted Nicodemus with the observation that one must be born
from above to see the Kingdom of God. The dialogue between
Jesus and Nicodemus that followed was about the meaning of
this phrase. Nicodemus misunderstood Jesus at every point, but
there was no animosity in the questions he posed to Jesus.
In the part of the conversation with Nicodemus in today's
Gospel, Jesus referred to an incident reported in the Old Testament. When the Israelites grumbled against the Lord during their
sojourn in the desert, God sent venomous serpents to punish
them for their complaints. The Israelites repented and asked Moses to pray for them. The Lord heard Moses' prayer and instructed him to make a bronze serpent and mount it on a pole. All who
had been bitten by a serpent and then looked upon the bronze
serpent were cured. By recalling this story, Jesus alludes to the
salvation that would be accomplished through his death and Resurrection.
The second part of today's Gospel is a theological reflection on Jesus' words to Nicodemus. The Gospel of John is known
for this kind of reflection offered within the narrative. The words of
the Evangelist are in continuity with the words of the prologue to
John's Gospel. In these reflections, John elaborates on a number
of themes that are found in his Gospel: light and darkness, belief
and unbelief, good and evil, salvation and condemnation.
In John's reflection, we find an observation about human
sinfulness. Jesus is the light that has come into the world, but
people preferred the darkness. We wish to keep our sins hidden,
even from God. Jesus has come into the world to reveal our sins
so that they may be forgiven. This is the Good News; it is the reason for our rejoicing in this season of Lent and throughout our
lives.

En aquel tiempo, dijo Jesús a
Nicodemo: Lo mismo que Moisés elevó la serpiente en el
desierto, así tiene que ser elevado el Hijo del hombre, para
que todo el que cree en él tenga vida eterna. Tanto amó Dios
al mundo que entregó a su Hijo
único para que no perezca
ninguno de los que creen en él,
sino que tengan vida eterna.
Porque Dios no mandó su Hijo al mundo para condenar al mundo, sino para que el mundo se salve por Él. El que cree en él no
será condenado; el que no cree ya está condenado, porque no
ha creído en el nombre del Hijo único de Dios. El juicio consiste
en esto: que la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres prefirieron la
tiniebla a la luz, porque sus obras eran malas. Pues todo el que
obra perversamente detesta la luz y no se acerca a la luz, para
no verse acusado por sus obras. En cambio, el que realiza la
verdad se acerca a la luz, para que se vea que sus obras están
hechas según Dios.

nuestra parroquia estará llevando a cabo el Retiro de Evangelización en español.
Registraciones se llevan a cabo al finalizar cada Misa dominical
en español. No hay ningún costo para participar . Para obtener

Tu también conociste pruebas, cansancio y trabajos.
Pero, aun dentro de las preocupaciones materiales de la vida,

La Misa en celebración de San José, esposo de María, será
celebrada durante la Misa de 8:15 a.m. y a las 8:00 PM.
Las parroquias

titulada Enseñar
Quien es Cristo.
La meta de la
campaña es
recaudar un mínimo de $350 millones para fortalecer parroquias, la educación católica, y la formación de la fe. Todas las

más de $140 millones. Regalos para la campaña beneficiarán

A jak Mojżesz wywyższył węża na pustyni, tak potrzeba,
by wywyższono Syna Człowieczego, aby każdy, kto w
Niego wierzy, miał życie wieczne. Tak bowiem Bóg umiłował świat, że Syna swego Jednorodzonego dał, aby każdy, kto w Niego wierzy, nie zginął, ale miał życie wieczne.
Albowiem Bóg nie posłał swego Syna na świat po to, aby
świat potępił, ale po to, by świat został przez Niego zbawiony. Kto wierzy w Niego, nie podlega potępieniu; a kto
nie wierzy, już został potępiony, bo nie uwierzył w imię
Jednorodzonego Syna Bożego. A sąd polega na tym, że
światło przyszło na świat, lecz ludzie bardziej umiłowali
ciemność aniżeli światło: bo złe były ich uczynki. Każdy
bowiem, kto się dopuszcza nieprawości, nienawidzi światła i nie zbliża się do światła, aby nie potępiono jego
uczynków. Kto spełnia wymagania prawdy, zbliża się do
światła, aby się okazało, że jego uczynki są dokonane w
Bogu.

Najświętszej Maryi Panny
Odnośnie życia św. Józefa musimy
polegać na tym, co przekazały o
nim Ewangelie. Poświęcają mu one
łącznie 26 wierszy, a jego imię wymieniają 14 razy. Osobą św. Józefa
zajmują się wprawdzie bardzo żywo
także apokryfy: Protoewangelia
Jakuba (z w. II), Ewangelia PseudoMateusza (w. VI), Ewangelia Narodzenia Maryi (w. IX),
Ewangelia Tomasza (w. II) i Historia Józefa Cieśli (w. IV).
Interesują się one rodziną św. Józefa, jego małżeństwem,
rodzajem pracy i śmiercią. Zbyt wiele w nich jednak legend, by można je było traktować poważnie. Niewiele mówią one także o latach dzieciństwa i wczesnej młodości św.
Józefa.
Józef pochodził z rodu króla Dawida. Wykazuje to św. Mateusz w genealogii przodków św. Józefa. Genealogię przytacza również św. Łukasz. Ta jednak różni się zasadniczo
od tej, którą nam przekazuje św. Mateusz. Już Julian Afrykański (w. III) wyraża zdanie, że jest to genealogia Najśw.
Maryi Panny. Św. Łukasz, który tak wiele nam podał
szczegółów z Jej życia, mógł nam i jej rodowód również
przekazać. Na mocy prawa lewitatu św. Józef mógł być
synem Jakuba, a równocześnie adoptowanym synem Heli,
noszącego także w tradycji chrześcijańskiej imię Joachima,
który był ojcem Najświętszej Panny. Tak więc genealogia
przytoczona przez św. Łukasza wyliczałaby przodków Maryi rzeczywistych, a odnośnie Józefa jego przodków zalegalizowanych. Taka jest dzisiaj opinia przez wielu biblistów przyjęta.
Mimo wysokiego pochodzenia Józef nie posiadał żadnego
majątku. Na życie zarabiał stolarstwem i pracą jako cieśla.
Zdaniem św. Justyna (ok. 100 - ok. 166), który żył bardzo
blisko czasów Apostołów, św. Józef wykonywał sochy
drewniane i jarzma na woły. Przygotowywał więc narzędzia gospodarcze i rolnicze. Autor Pseudoewangelii Filipa
(w. III) nazywa Józefa stolarzem. Zaręczony z Maryją, Józef stanął przed tajemnicą cudownego poczęcia. Św. Józef
nie był według ciała ojcem Chrystusa. Był nim jednak według prawa żydowskiego jako prawomocny małżonek Maryi. Chociaż więc Maryja porodziła Pana Jezusa dziewiczo,
to jednak wobec prawa żydowskiego i otoczenia św. Józef
był uważany za ojca Pana Jezusa. Tak go też nazywają
Ewangelie. W takiej sytuacji trzeba było wykazać, że Józef
pochodził w prostej linii od króla Dawida, jak to zapowiadali prorocy. Pochodziła też według św. Łukasza z rodu
Dawida także Matka Boża. Pan Jezus pochodził zatem z
rodu Dawida i poprzez Matkę (materialnie), i poprzez św.
Józefa (prawnie).
