Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
“God is closer to us than we are to ourselves,” said St. Augustine, and that
closeness, through the power of the Holy Spirit in the
wondrous mystery of the Incarnation, becomes visible
in Jesus Christ. It also becomes visible in how we treat
each other and how we radiate the hope Christ brings
to the world. The Word made flesh reconciles God and
his human family and all creation; that is God’s interpretation of the Christmas crib.
The giving of oneself to others constitutes the nature of
God; therefore, Jesus never comes alone. To genuinely
celebrate his birth, we cannot put individuals or entire
peoples in boxes in order to dismiss them from our
lives. Likewise, if we climb into a box to separate ourselves from others by our attitudes or actions, the
Word made flesh cannot speak to us, transform us or
save us. Moreover, if we allow our faith to be boxed in
by our secular age, it becomes a personal hobby without any public presence, witness or role.
By her response, “My soul magnifies the Lord” (Luke
1:46), Mary shows complete trust and faith in God; her
active cooperation with God is a model for all. As
Pope Benedict emphasizes in God Is Love, “In these
words she expresses her whole program of life: not
setting herself at the center, but leaving space for God,
who is encountered both in prayer and in service of
neighbor—only then does goodness enter the world.”
God has spoken and the eternal Word is made flesh.
With the courage born of our faith, we proclaim in
word and action, in our very flesh and bone, that Jesus
Christ our Savior is born. It is our turn to speak, to one
another and to the world. A blessed Christmas to all of
you and to all those whom God has given you to
love—Merry Christmas!

CHANGES ON MASS AND OFFICE SCHEDULES

The angel Gabriel visits Mary to announce the birth
of Jesus.
This Sunday we read the story of the angel Gabriel's
announcement to Mary about the birth of Jesus. This
story is found only in Luke's Gospel. On this fourth
Sunday of Advent, the liturgy shifts our attention
from John the Baptist to Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Both John and Mary serve as important figures for
our reflection during the season of Advent; they both
played instrumental roles in preparing the way for
Jesus. Last week we reflected on John the Baptist's
announcement that the Savior was among us, although not yet recognized. This week we reflect upon
Mary's example of faith and obedience to God, traits
which permitted her to receive the angel's message
that God's Son would be born as a human person, as
one of us.
We are familiar with the story of the Annunciation,
and it is fitting that we recall how God announced the
birth of Jesus as we make our final preparations for
our celebration of the Incarnation. The angel Gabriel
visited Mary, a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph. Mary greeted the angel's news with awe and
wonder and asked how it could be possible that she
could give birth to a child. In his reply, the angel
Gabriel announced the seemingly impossible reality:
the child to be born would be conceived by the power
of the Holy Spirit and would be God's own Son. The
angel reported to Mary another miracle; her relative
Elizabeth was also pregnant despite having been
thought to be unable to have a child. Mary's response
to the angel, which is called her fiat, is an example of
complete faith and obedience to God.
The story of the Annunciation calls to our attention
God's wondrous action in human history. God chose a
human person to give birth to his Son so that all humanity would know God's salvation. Mary, already
full of God's grace, was able to cooperate in this great
plan for our salvation. Thus Jesus was born as one of
us, fully human and also fully divine. This is the mystery we prepare to celebrate at Christmas, the mystery
of the Incarnation. In the model of Mary, we pray that
we will be people of faith who recognize God's saving
plan for us and are able respond with obedience.

IV DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO
"Concebirás en tu vientre y darás a luz un hijo"
A los seis meses envió Dios al ángel Gabriel a un pueblo de Galilea
llamado Nazaret, a visitar a una mujer virgen llamada María, que
estaba comprometida para casarse con un hombre llamado José,
descendiente del rey David. El ángel entró donde ella estaba, y le
dijo: ¡Te saludo, favorecida de Dios! El Señor está contigo.
Cuando vio al ángel, se sorprendió de sus palabras, y se
preguntaba que significaría aquel saludo. El ángel le dijo: María, no
tengas miedo, pues tú gozas del favor de Dios. Ahora vas a
quedarte encinta; tendrás un hijo, y le pondrás por nombre Jesús.
Será un gran hombre, al que llamarán Hijo de Dios altísimo: y Dios
el Señor lo hará rey, como su antepasado David, para que reine por
siempre en la nación de Israel. Su reinado no tendrá fin.
María preguntó al ángel: ¿Cómo podrá suceder esto, si no vivo con
ningún hombre?
El ángel contestó: El Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y el poder del
Dios altísimo descansará sobre ti como una nube. Por eso, el niño
que va a nacer será llamado Santo e Hijo de Dios. También tu
parienta Isabel va atener un hijo, a pesar de que es anciana; la que
decían que no podía tener hijos, está encinta desde hace seis
meses. Para Dios no hay nada imposible.
Entonces María dijo: Soy la esclava del Señor: ¡que Dios haga
conmigo como me has dicho!
Con esto el ángel se fue.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo,
“Dios es más íntimo a nosotros mismos
que lo más íntimo de nosotros mismos,”
dijo San Agustín, y esa cercanía, a través
del poder del Espíritu Santo en el admirable misterio de
la Encarnación, se hace visible en Jesucristo. También
se hace visible la forma en que nos tratamos los unos a
los otros y cómo irradiamos la esperanza que Cristo trae
al mundo. El Verbo hecho carne reconcilia a Dios con
su familia humana y con toda la creación; esa es la interpretación de Dios sobre la cuna de Navidad.
El entregarse uno mismo a los demás constituye la naturaleza de Dios; por lo tanto Jesús nunca viene solo. Para
celebrar de manera genuina su nacimiento, no podemos
poner a individuos y pueblos enteros en una caja con el
fin de descartarlos de nuestras vidas. Del mismo modo,
si nos apartamos con nuestras actitudes o acciones, metiéndonos en una caja que nos separa de los demás, el
Verbo hecho carne no puede hablarnos, ni transformarnos ni salvarnos. Por otra parte, si permitimos que la
época secular en la que vivimos encajone a nuestra fe,
dejaremos que la convierta en un pasatiempo personal
sin ningún tipo de presencia pública, ni testigos, ni rol
que jugar.
A través de su respuesta, “Proclama mi alma la grandeza
el Señor” (Lucas 1:46), María muestra completa confianza y fe en Dios; su activa cooperación con Dios es
un modelo para todos. Como lo resalta el Papa Benedicto XVI en Dios es amor, “Con ello expresa todo el programa de su vida: no ponerse a sí misma en el centro,
sino dejar espacio a Dios, a quien encuentra tanto en la
oración como en el servicio al prójimo—sólo entonces
el mundo se hace bueno.”
Dios ha hablado y el eterno Verbo es hecho carne. Con
el valor que nace de nuestra fe, proclamamos con la palabra y la acción, en nuestra propia carne y huesos, que
Jesucristo, nuestro Salvador ha nacido. Ahora es nuestro
turno de hablar, de comunicarnos, los unos con los otros
y con el mundo. Les deseo una Navidad llena de bendiciones para todos ustedes y para todos aquellos a quienes Dios les ha dado para amar—¡Feliz Navidad!

W szóstym miesiącu posłał Bóg anioła Gabriela do miasta w
Galilei, zwanego Nazaret, do Dziewicy poślubionej mężowi,
imieniem Józef, z rodu Dawida; a Dziewicy było na imię Maryja.
Anioł wszedł do Niej i rzekł: Bądź pozdrowiona, pełna łaski, Pan
z Tobą, <błogosławiona jesteś między niewiastami>. Ona
zmieszała się na te słowa i rozważała, co miałoby znaczyć to
pozdrowienie. Lecz anioł rzekł do Niej: Nie bój się, Maryjo,
znalazłaś bowiem łaskę u Boga. Oto poczniesz i porodzisz Syna,
któremu nadasz imię Jezus. Będzie On wielki i będzie nazwany
Synem Najwyższego, a Pan Bóg da Mu tron Jego praojca,
Dawida. Będzie panował nad domem Jakuba na wieki, a Jego
panowaniu nie będzie końca. Na to Maryja rzekła do anioła:
Jakże się to stanie, skoro nie znam męża? Anioł Jej odpowiedział:
Duch Święty zstąpi na Ciebie i moc Najwyższego osłoni Cię.
Dlatego też Święte, które się narodzi, będzie nazwane Synem
Bożym. A oto również krewna Twoja, Elżbieta, poczęła w swej
starości syna i jest już w szóstym miesiącu ta, która uchodzi za
niepłodną. Dla Boga bowiem nie ma nic niemożliwego. Na to
rzekła Maryja: Oto Ja służebnica Pańska, niech Mi się stanie
według twego słowa! Wtedy odszedł od Niej anioł.

Dziś 18-go grudnia w IV niedzielę adwentu,
rozpoczynamy rekolekcje adwentowe w naszej parafii. Rekolekcje będzie prowadził O.
Stanisław Słaby - Redemptorysta pracujący w
Manville w New Jersey. Rekolekcje trwać
będą do środy 21-go grudnia. Msze św. oprócz niedzieli
będą celebrowane każdego dnia o godzinie 12:00PM i o
7:00PM. Przed Mszą św. możliwość spowiedzi. Serdecznie
zapraszamy do udziału w rekolekcjach.

Boże Narodzenie 2011
Drodzy Bracia i Siostry w Chrystusie,
Święty Augustyn powiedział, że „Bóg jest bliżej nas, niż my siebie samych”, a także, że
dzięki mocy Ducha Świętego bliskość ta uwidacznia się w osobie Jezusa Chrystusa w cudownej tajemnicy Wcielenia. Staje się ona
również widoczna w tym, jak traktujemy siebie
nawzajem i jak promieniujemy nadzieją niesioną światu przez Chrystusa. Słowo, które stało się Ciałem jednoczy Boga z Jego ludzką rodziną i całym stworzeniem; tak Bóg
rozumie Bożonarodzeniowy żłóbek.
Składanie siebie innym w ofierze stanowi naturę Boga, dlatego
Jezus nigdy nie przychodzi sam. Aby prawdziwie uczcić Jego
narodziny nie możemy szufladkować ani pojedynczych osób,
ani całych społeczności, aby następnie usuwać ich z naszego
życia. Z drugiej strony, jeśli przez nasze postawy i czyny zaszufladkujemy samych siebie, izolując się od innych, to Słowo,
które stało się Ciałem, nie przemawia do nas, nie przemienia
nas i nas nie zbawia. Ponadto, jeśli pozwolimy na zaszufladkowanie naszej wiary przez sekularyzm obecnych czasów, to wiara stanie się naszym osobistym hobby nieobecnym w życiu
publicznym, niedającym świadectwa i nieodgrywającym żadnej
znaczącej roli.
Odpowiedź, jakiej udzieliła Matka Boża „Wielbi dusza moja
Pana” (Łk 1, 46), jest odzwierciedleniem Jej wiary i absolutnego zaufania Bogu; Jej aktywne współdziałanie z Bogiem powinno być dla wszystkich wzorem do naśladowania. Papież
Benedykt XVI, w encyklice „Bóg jest miłością”, powiedział:
„w słowach tych zawarła Ona program na całe życie: aby nie
umieszczać siebie w centrum, lecz pozostawiać miejsce dla
Boga, którego spotykamy zarówno podczas modlitwy jak i wtedy, gdy służymy bliźniemu — tylko wtedy dobro przychodzi na
świat”.
Bóg przemówił i odwieczne Słowo staje się Ciałem. Z odwagą
zrodzoną z naszej wiary głosimy słowem i czynem, całym naszym jestestwem, że narodził się Jezus Chrystus, nasz Zbawiciel. Teraz nadeszła kolej, żebyśmy przemówili do siebie nawzajem i do świata. Wam wszystkim oraz tym, którzy dzięki
miłości Bożej są obecni w Waszym życiu, życzę błogosławionych Świąt Bożego Narodzenia — Wesołych Świąt!
