XLVI Sympozjon „Modelowanie w mechanice” Jerzy MAŁACHOWSKI, Jacek ŁAZOWSKI, Katedra Mechaniki i Informatyki Stosowanej, Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna WYBRANE PRZYKŁADY MODELOWANIA ZAGADNIENIA SPRZĘŻENIA W ŚRODOWISKU ALE Uzyskanie wyników o odpowiedniej jakości w przypadku komputerowej analizy układów poddanych oddziaływaniu ciśnieniu spalanych gazów, tj. w warunkach gwałtownego wzrostu obciążenia, wymaga modelowania procesu interakcji pomiędzy ciałami stałymi a ośrodkiem płynnym (w tym przypadku gazem). Towarzyszący w procesie spalania wzrost obciążenia jest przyczyną m.in. wzrostu przyspieszenia np. pocisku osiągającego wartość od 100000g do 200000g (gdzie g- przyspieszenie ziemskie). Prawidłowe wypełnienie zadania obciążania wszystkich elementów modelu numerycznego MES wymaga zastosowania sprzężenia opisu Euler’a (gaz) i Lagrange’a (ciała stałe). Na tle tych dwóch przykładów będą omówione wybrane procedury numerycznego sprzężenia pomiędzy układem opisanym we współrzędnych Lagrange’a, a falą ciśnienia generowaną we współrzędnych Euler’a, czyli tzw. ALE (ang. Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulearian). XLVI Sympozjon „Modelowanie w mechanice” Jerzy MAŁACHOWSKI, Jacek ŁAZOWSKI, Department of Mechanics & Applied Computer Science, Military University of Technology CHOSEN EXAMPLES OF COUPLING PROCESS MODELLING WITH ALE METHOD Research communities around the world are using numerical methods to study systems and structures under impact due to blast. Dynamic response of some mechanical units subjected to the shock wave produced by the detonation or gunpowder burning is presented in this paper. Also some numerical and modelling issues are discussed in this paper. Coupled Euler and Lagrange formulation are used in the finite element analysis of such problems to accurately represent the wave propagation phenomenon. Extensive research done by many researchers in this area indicates that the finite element analysis of such problems requires complex meshes for Euler and Lagrange formulation. In the first part of this paper the preliminary concept of numerical modelling of combustion process for gunpowder is presented. Such new computational methods like finite element analysis gave us opportunity to simulate such energetic and high frequency process like pressure wave generation caused by chemical reaction. The main product of this process is a blast wave, which interacts at the first stage with surrounding (bullet and shell) and finally impel a bullet movement. In the considered case, the detonation product from gunpowder burning couple “produced” gas in Eulerian domain with the barrel-bullet system described in Lagrangean domain. In the performed analysis, the authors noticed some unwanted effects like asymmetry, which is probably related with the finite element mesh and computational errors. In the next conducting investigations some optimisation procedures related with a bullet movement in a barrel will be employed. The initial calculations were performed using LS-Dyna code. At this stage the presented results have a qualitative character and need to be verified. In the second part dynamic response of a pipe element subjected to the shock wave produced by the detonation of high explosive (HE) materials is presented. LS-DYNA, a 3D explicit finite element computer code was used to study this behaviour. Coupled Euler and Lagrange formulation are used in the finite element analysis of such problems to accurately represent the detonation phenomenon. The properties of the applied materials are described by the equations of state. Equation of state for the ideal gas was used for the air while JonesWilkins-Lee (JWL) constitutive material model was applied to represent the detonation products. A steel pipe developed using shell elements in Lagrangean formulation was submerged within the air domain model. The non-linear material model, which was used to describe the pipe component, also included the strain rate effects and failure criterion. In both cases coupling effects between Euler and Lagrange formulations were accounted for by using the “CONSTRAINED LAGRANGE IN SOLID” feature of the code.
