Chemo- and biosensors – molecular imprinting Task Leader – Prof. Wlodzimierz Kutner Task Vice-Leader – Iwona Flis-Kabulska, D.Sc. Task 3.1 Transfer of knowledge and experience through twinning and networking There was no activity on January till March 2013 within this Task. Task 3.2 Recruitment of one experienced researcher On 1 August 2012, Dr. Piotr Pieta filled the position of an Assistant Professor (Pol. “adiunkt”) in the Research Group of Molecular Films (RGMF) of the IPC PAS headed by Prof. Wlodzimierz Kutner. During the last 3 months Dr. P. Pieta was studying properties of new polymers, including molecular imprinted polymers, for use as the recognition materials in chemical sensors. Dr. P. Pieta performed a series of AFM imagings to elucidate topography of a chemosensor for oligonucletides. The results obtained are now used to prepare both a patent application and a manuscript to submit as a full feature paper. Dr. P. Pieta is also responsible for arranging a new laboratory room for the Research Group of Studies of Molecular Films. His responsibilities include designing both electric and gas lines, laboratory furnishings, and preparation of offers for the tender. Dr. P. Pieta submitted the abstract, entitled “Composite of the Polymer of the Ferrocene Adduct of C60 and Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes Exhibiting Redox Conductivity at both 1 EUROPEAN UNION Institute of Physical Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences address: M. (Enclosure No. 1.) Task 3.3 Formation of independent research groups by young leader researchers New research groups will be established based on research projects funded by the National Science Centre: • "Chemosensors for selective determination of renal disfunction biomarkers using molecularly imprinted polymers, deposited by electropolymerization, as recognition layers" (36 months, 01 Dec. 2011 through 30 Nov. 2014) awarded to Dr. Eng. Krzysztof Noworyta. A Call for Applications for a PhD student position was announced on 20 Nov. 2012. The decision on recruitment of a PhD student will be taken. • “Electrochemically synthesized conducting polymers in molecular imprinting for chemical detection of selected biomarkers” (36 months, 01 Dec. 2012 through 30 Nov. 2015) awarded to Dr. Piyush S. Sharma. A Call for Applications for a PhD student position was announced on 20 Nov. 2012. The decision on recruitment of a PhD student will be taken. The new laboratory room No. 122 for the Research Group of Molecular Films is being arranged. Dr. P. Pieta is responsible for this task. Task 3.4 Facilitation of participation of the RGMF and CHG IPC PAS researchers in international scientific conferences M.Sc. Ievgen Obraztsov participated in the 27th International Winterschool on Electronic Properties of Novel Materials (IWEPNM) in Kirchberg in Tirol, Austria (http://www.iwepnm.org/2013/) on 2 through 9 March 2013. The IWEPNM 2013 provided a platform for reviewing and discussing new developments in the field of electronic properties of molecular nanostructures and their applications, including carbon molecular 2 EUROPEAN UNION Institute of Physical Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences address: M. The Workshop brough together dozens scientists and researchers from all around the world. M.Sc. I. Obraztsov presented the poster, entitled „Langmuir and Langmuir-Blodgett films of the electron donor-acceptor dyad of Zn phthalocyanine bearing peripheral alkylether substituents and the C60-imidazole adduct”, authored by I. Obraztsov, A. Hart, Ch. Bikram K.C., F. D’Souza, and W. Kutner. The Abstract of the presentation is enclosed (Enclosure No. 2). The main goal of the presented project was to improve low both efficiency and durability of molecular organic photovoltaic cells by devvising a new photosensitive material. The Report of the participation in IWEPNM is enclosed (Enclosure No. 3).
