spolu s Katedrou všeobecných dejín a Katedrou archívnictva a pomocných vied historických, je najstarším profesionálnym pracoviskom historikov na území Slovenska. Svoju činnosť zameranú najmä na
školenie mladých historikov a vlastnú vedeckú historickú prácu vykonáva nepretržite od roku 1919.
Pracovali, či študovali tu prakticky všetky významné osobnosti slovenskej historiografie. Sami neskôr
zakladatelia iných pracovísk a historických škôl. Aj dnes patrí k špičkovým pracoviskám svojho druhu.
Dynamický pracovný tým odborníkov sa zameriava na mapovanie širokého rámca slovenských dejín,
v zmysle dejín Slovákov a dejín územia Slovenska. Zaoberá sa celým časovým rozsahom dejín, od prahu
prehistórie až po nedávnu minulosť, rozsiahlym spektrom tém a rozmanitými prístupmi k nim. Katedra
a jej členovia sa dlhodobo venujú vedeckému výskumu a sú koordinátormi a riešiteľmi úloh množstva
vedeckých projektov (h�p://www.fphil.uniba.sk/index.php?id=ksd). Okrem pedagogickej činnosti sa
katedra programovo zaoberá aj šírením výsledkov vedy a jej popularizáciou pre širokú verejnosť.
The Department of Slovak History at the Faculty of Arts
of Comenius University Bratislava
together with the Department of General History and the Department of Archival and Auxiliary Sciences of History, are the oldest professional workplaces for historians in the territory of Slovakia. They
have been educating young historians and doing their own research continuously since 1919. Almost
all distinguished personalities of Slovak historiography have worked or studied here, and some of
them later founded other centres and historical schools. The department belongs to the top centres
nowadays. The dynamic team of specialists maps a broad range of Slovak history, i.e. the history of
Slovaks and the history of the territory of Slovakia. The department investigates a wide spectrum of
topics from the whole time scale of history, from the threshold of prehistory to the recent past, and
uses a variety of approaches. The historians of the department have long-term experience in historical
research. They have coordinated and participated in a number of scientific projects (h�p://www.fphil.
uniba.sk/index.php?id=ksd). Besides pedagogical activities, the department aims to disseminate the
research results and popularize science amongst broad public.

Początki nauczania historii w Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim sięgają pierwszej połowy XV wieku. Instytut
Historii, który obecnie jest jednym z największych instytutów w obrębie uniwersytetu, powołano w
1970 r. Instytut zatrudnia 75 pracowników naukowo-dydaktycznych, a studiuje w nim prawie 1400 studentów. Instytut Historii współpracuje z około 30 ośrodkami naukowymi na całym świecie. Każdego
roku realizuje się w Instytucie kilkadziesiąt tematów badawczych. Obecnie Instytut prowadzi kilka rodzajów studiów, w tym studia magisterskie stacjonarne i niestacjonarne. Absolwenci naszego Instytutu
są przygotowani do pracy w placówkach badawczych, archiwach, szkołach i wydawnictwach, otrzymując jednocześnie ogólne wykształcenie humanistyczne. Dlatego wielu spośród nich można spotkać
wśród czołowych działaczy politycznych, państwowych i samorządowych.
The Institute of History at the Jagiellonian University Cracow
Historical studies at the Jagiellonian University have long tradition, dating back to the first half of the
15th century. The Institute of History, which today concentrates and coordinates historical research at
the university, was founded back in 1970. Employing 75 faculty members, with almost 1400 students, it
is one of the largest institutes at the university. The Institute of History cooperates with over 30 research
and study centres in all parts of the word, initiating several dozen research projects and conferences
each year. Currently, it offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies in history. Our graduates
find work in research institutes, schools, archives, public administration and publishing companies.
Some of them have found their way to politics on all levels of competence – starting with local self-government, through the Parliament, ending on central governmental agencies.
