RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION
Dante Avenue, Copiague
Registration for the 2014-2015 school year will begin
on Tuesday, August 12th and extend through Tuesday,
September 23rd. It will be held at the Religious Ed
offices on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

The tuition fee for the school year 2014-2015 will be
the same as last year. However, we are adding a
preparation fee of $50 for First Holy Communion. We
already have a preparation fee for Confirmation.
These fees help defray the costs of certificates,
photography, retreat, confirmation gown etc. These
payments must be paid at the same time as the
tuition fee.

New Religious Education Class
In the 2014-2015 school year, we will be offering a
Continuing Education class for young people ages 1417 who have already received the Sacrament of Confirmation. Father Janusz will be teaching this class
to continue formation in the Faith and to provide important ways to meet the contemporary problems
that Catholics face. It will be held Tuesday evenings
at no charge. If you are interested, please contact

The 2015 Mass Book is open now. Please stop by
the Rectory during office hours to arrange your Mass
Intentions. No Masses may be arranged over the
phone, and must be done personally. The offering
is $15.00 per Mass Intention.
OUTREACH
I have been asked how come I never ask for
shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, tooth
brushes and other toiletries. It is not because we
don’t need them…we do. It is just that when it
comes to priorities, I am sure you will agree that
food is first. Cleanliness is a very close runner-up.
This week we are going to ask for the canned
foods, carbs, peanut butter, any and all edibles.
We are also going to let you know that if you throw
in a tooth brush or a bar of soap or a roll of toilet
paper, we promise you that they will be very much
appreciated by your less fortunate neighbors.

The Exaltation of the Holy Cross
“God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him . . . might
have eternal life.”
There are no words that could be written
which would better explain the love of God for
each one of us.
This week we take a break from the
numbered Sundays of Ordinary Time to celebrate
the Feast of the “Exaltation of the Holy Cross”. In
the first reading from the book of Numbers, we
have a direct foreshadowing of the Cross in the
story of the Seraph Serpent. Those who looked at
the bronze serpent “lived”.
The second reading from St. Paul’s letter to
the Philippians speaks for itself. Jesus “emptied
himself”, he “humbled himself”, he became
“obedient to death, even death on a cross”. I
suggest you give this passage a thoughtful rereading. And as we sing “Lift High the Cross”, let
the words have meaning for you:
Lift high the cross, the love of God proclaim
Till all the world proclaim his holy name.
To complement this feast, tomorrow,
September 15th, is the Feast of Our Lady of
Sorrows. “At the cross her station keeping, stood
the mournful mother weeping, close to Jesus to the
last.”
