Sustainable Development as a New Ethics of the Future . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7
Being conscious of multi – and interdisciplinary character of the idea of sustainable development the author of this article limits his consideration exclusively to the ecophilosophical
dimension. The thesis he would like to risk to set comes from conviction that the problem of
sustainable development, in its philosophical, and especially in an ethical variant, is as much
new as deeply and firmly set in the philosophical tradition. It is then a new old problem;
new, because it touches upon an unprecedented, as Philippe Saint Marc described it, crisis
of our civilization; old, because the ideas it assumes and says, at least in their broad outline,
have been functioning in philosophy almost since the dawn of it, anyway since the Socratic
anthropocentric turning point. The author calls for acknowledging the idea of sustainable
development as opening a new perspective in ecophilosophy and through it initiating a new
paradigm in the philosophy in 21th century of return to the human being reconciled with
nature. At bases of the principle of sustainable development lies the structural aiming at
future, which is expressed, on an ethical level, out of authentic and committed concern for
the future development of mankind. The ethics of sustainable development as a new ethics
for the future is then, when all is said and done, according to Hans Jonas’ words, the ethics of
unavoidable responsibility for the future generations.

Affirmation and Negation. On Albert Schweitzer’s Philosophy of History . . . . . . . . . . . . . 21
In this article i try to prove, that aim of the philosophy of Albert Schweitzer is to discover
real meaning of history. Important is, that his philosophical inquiry may be seen as attempt
to rehab philosophical view on history which lies beyond ordinary historical purview. His
life – and world affirmation are the basis of his view on historical process and decline of the
Western Civilization diagnosis. Quite optimistic view, makes him understand main factors
of this decline and push him to find a medicine. Negative effects of mass culture and global
conflict threats let him know, that science and technological progress are not able to find
solutions for main human problems. So, he decided to create his own theory of the universe,
which contains his worldview and lifeview in their integrity. He rejects pessimism as a negation of life and set reverence for life against it. In contrast to pessimism he offers human
independence and ability for critical thinking. His view on progress as spiritual perfection
of human being makes him a heir and continuator of philosophical tradition of the Enlightenment philosophy of history.

The Importance of the Internet for Regional Development
Communicates-Reports . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 41
The internet used as an infrastructure, a magazine of information or a medium is characterized by the feature of non-localization – the fundamental separation from a concrete
location. However, the uses of the Internet and especially the access itself can be precisely
localized. The global digital divide is analyzed in this context. The mutual connections of
regional development and the results of the Internet use, presented in an ideological, economical or cultural perspective as the factors of the development of a region can be analyzed in reference to the local system. Their analytic arrangement allows pointing the paths
of dependency and their returnable character. The most essential subject and factor of both
the use of the Internet and the development of a region are people, their competencies and
motivations that is the capitals which they own.

Philosophy of Everyday Life and Challenges of Social Pedagogy –
based on the Example of Studies on Secondary School Students . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 61
In this article I have tried to show the orientation of high school students from the Koscierzyna, Pomeranian province in the context of the “everyday life philosophy” of Maria
Szyszkowska. The approach to young people, among them an attempt to create positive
attitudes can be built just by utilizing the “philosophy of everyday life”.
Respondents wish to create their own environment, to decide the fate of their “little
homeland”.
The article is an attempt to show that the orientation of the young people are varied,
on the one hand you can see a strong risk of addiction associated with, for example, on the
other hand an active approach in its own immediate environment.
Youth is willing to participate in building a modern, open society; society in their nearest space. They wants to be involved to various initiatives.
The message of this article is the need to build local social capital on the basis of youth
– the ideas, aspirations and plans.

Individual Aspects of Being a Fan – New Paradigm of Fan Studies . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 74
The text characterizes the newest directions of fan studies – a discipline dealing with a specific segment of media audiences – fans. It provides a description of fan studies paradigms
that dominated until now. It is shown that the most recent paradigm – a mainstream paradigm – slowly returns to the notion treating a fan as an individual. The author provides
a differentiation between four fields of mainstream paradigm concentrated on an individual
fan. The article indicates that we may be close to the establishment of a new paradigm of fan
studies – paradigm of an individual.

Practical and Legal Regulations on the Sexual Abuse of Children,
also via the Internet and Modern Technology . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 95
Children protection against sexual and all other kinds of abuse should be set as a priority
of social policy of all countries in the world. Following the spread of the Internet and other
new technologies and the rising awareness of threats to the youngest Internet users such as
grooming, cyberbullying and pornography, child pornography, the need for specific formal
regulation has arisen.
International regulations, most of all Convention on the Rights of the Child, Council of
Europe Convention on Cybercrime, have been ratified by the governments of countries all
over the globe, and have obliged to introduce the standards set by the international regulations and appropriate internal regulations.
World congresses and numerous social preventive campaigns popularized through mass
media are aimed at alerting the public the need to cope with these problems. They should
result in the children’s, parents’ and teachers’ awareness of the threats waiting children in
the Internet.

Evaluation of Secondary School Teachers’ Preparation for Teaching.
Social Aspects of HIV/AIDS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 105
This study examined secondary school teachers’ preparation for providing classes on the social aspects of HIV/AIDS. For this, the immune model of stigma and discrimination is proposed as a theoretical background. Survey with the probability sample of Gdansk secondary
school teachers was conducted in 2007 (N=397). Gregory Herek’s items were used. Several
statistical methods were applied (ANOVA, and standard statistical tests). Teachers’ knowledge
how HIV is not transmitted turned out unsatisfactory. On the other hand, this knowledge was
correlated with discriminatory attitudes towards people living with HIV/AIDS. The social
aspects of should be addressed in HIV epidemic prevention and education programs.
