B.A. seminar: General and English-Polish Contrastive Linguistics and its Applications

The aim of the seminar is to prepare students for writing their B.A. dissertations concerning
general linguistics and English-Polish contrastive linguistics. Presentation and discussion of
current trends in morphology, word-formation, lexis and syntax in the context of differences
between English and Polish is intended to enable students to choose topics of their B.A.
projects and write their dissertations.
Course content:
Basic concepts in morphology and word-formation; inflection and derivation; word-formation
processes in English and Polish; current trends in English and Polish word-formation;
foundational issues in syntax; syntactic categories and functions; syntactic operations; the
structure of phrases; the structure and types of clauses; selected syntactic structures in English
and Polish; linguistic borrowing and types of borrowing; English borrowings in Polish;
selected topics in text analysis, translation and communication theory.
Assessment:
Participation in class and discussion, oral presentations, written reports, submitting the topic
and plan of a B.A. thesis (winter semester), submitting a completed B.A. dissertation (summer
semester).

Seminarium licencjackie: Językoznawstwo ogólne i kontrastywne angielsko-polskie oraz
jego zastosowania

Celem seminarium jest przygotowanie studentów do przedstawienia prac licencjackich z
zakresu językoznawstwa ogólnego oraz kontrastywnego angielsko-polskiego. Omówienie
głównych tendencji w badaniach nad składnią, morfologią, słowotwórstwem oraz leksyką w
kontekście różnic pomiędzy językiem angielskim i językiem polskim ma umożliwić
studentom sformułowanie tematu i przygotowanie pracy dyplomowej.
Zakres tematyczny:
Podstawowe pojęcia z zakresu morfologii i słowotwórstwa; fleksja i derywacja; procesy
słowotwórcze w języku angielskim i polskim; współczesne tendencje w słowotwórstwie
angielskim i polskim; podstawowe zagadnienia teorii składni; kategorie i funkcje składniowe;
operacje składniowe; struktura fraz; struktura i typy zdań; wybrane struktury gramatyczne w
języku angielskim i polskim; kontrast składniowy; proces zapożyczania w języku i typy
zapożyczeń; angielskie zapożyczenia we współczesnej polszczyźnie; wybrane zagadnienia z
zakresu analizy tekstu, przekładu i teorii komunikacji.
Forma zaliczenia:
Uczestnictwo w zajęciach i udział w dyskusji, ustne referaty, prace pisemne, przedłożenie
tematu i planu pracy dyplomowej (semestr zimowy), złożenie ukończonej pracy dyplomowej
(semestr letni).
