Rules of studying at University of Opole for foreign students with English
as the language of instruction (among others, Faculty of Economics)
I Legalizing your stay in the Republic of Poland
1. Citizens of the European Union, Switzerland and an EFTA member state may
enter Poland without a visa and stay on its territory up to 3 months with no
legalization required. If their stay in Poland exceeds 3 months, an EU citizen is
required to register it. The registration occurs at a citizen's application that has
to be submitted in person not later than the first day after the elapsing of the
third month of their no-visa stay on the Polish territory.
2. Citizens of countries that are not EU member states are required to obtain a
Polish visa at a Polish diplomatic post in their own state. In order to extend
their stay in Poland, a citizen of such a country is required to apply for
permission to reside in Poland for a definite period of time (temporary stay
card) not later than 45 days prior to the end of the stay as indicated in their
visa or in the previous temporary residence permission.

II Language competence:
A student is required to supply an appropriate certificate of their command of English
(First Certificate, TOEFL). If none, their level of English language competence will be
tested by the university examining board.
III Recognition of a school-leaving certificate or/ and a diploma
1. When applying for admission as a student, it is highly important that the
school-leaving certificate and diploma (required for second cycle studies)) be
officially recognized.

Recognition of a school-leaving certificate or a diploma:
•
School-leaving certificates obtained abroad are to be recognized by the
superintendent of education in charge of a given educational district.

Diplomas confirming the graduation from an institution of higher learning
overseas may be recognized by the council of a university's organizational unit
that is authorized to confer the doctor's degree in a given field of science. A
person who holds a diploma obtained overseas may be exempted from the
recognition procedure.
IV Enrollment
1. Candidates are required to fill in an 'Application Form', sign it and email it at
[email protected] or fax it at 00-48 77 40 16 901.
1. Following the admission, of which a student is notified electronically, he/ she is
to deliver the following documents, either in person or by mail:
•
the original Application Form that has to be signed
•
the certified translation of school-leaving certificate into Polish that bears the
recognition remark by the Superintendent of Education on its original version
or a certified copy thereof obtained from the school
•
four photographs of 35 x 45 mm,
•
a photocopy of the passport
•
candidates for second cycle studies are required to supply the certified
translation into Polish of the original diploma of completing the first cycle
studies that is officially recognized,
•
application for a place in a students' residence hall (dormitory), if interested,
•
certificate of language competence,
•
a copy of health insurance (for EU candidates - European Health Insurance
Card)
•
a written declaration that the candidate is determined to study at the University
of Opole

The said documents are to be sent to:

V Deadlines:
1. The registration of candidates for first cycle full-time studies and uniform
master's degree studies takes place from May 11 to July 10.
2. The registration of candidates for second cycle full-time studies takes place
from May 11 to July 22.
3. The registration of candidates for part-time studies takes place from May 11 to
July 29.
4. Candidates who are admitted will be notified electronically.
5. Candidates for full-time studies as listed in sect. 1 are required to supply the
entire set of original documents at the enrollment board for a given field of
study not later than July 24 this year.
6. Candidates for second cycle full-time studies and part-time studies are to
supply their own documents at the time set by a given enrollment board.

VI Charges
University of Opole charges 85 zł (ca. 20 €) for each registration (a given field
of study). The payment should be made into the following bank account:

Citizens of EU member states, Switzerland, and EFTA member states, parties
to European Economic Area, as well as their family members and holders of
'Karta Polaka' (Pole's Card), who have financial means that are sufficient to
maintain them during the studies in Poland, may study in Poland in
compliance with the rules valid for Polish citizens.
It means that the students from these states may take up full-time studies at
University of Opole free of charge.
However, the said students are not entitled to receive social aid assistance,
special assistance for the disabled, rent-a-room assistance, food purchase
assistance and subsistence allowance (does not apply to Pole's card holders).
1. Foreigners not covered by sect. 2 are required to pay an annual tuition of:
•
2.000 € for first or second cycle studies and for uniform master's degree
studies;
•
3.000 € for doctoral and postgraduate studies, scientific and artistic internship,
specialized training programs and postdoctoral internship;
2. Foreigners
who
are
admitted
for
tuition-paid
regular,
doctoral
and
postgraduate studies are required to pay the first year tuition as increased by
€ 200, irrespective of the number of fields of study selected.
3. Tuition cannot be lower than the costs of instruction planned.
4. Persons of Polish origin who are required to pay for their studies receive a
tuition bonus of 30 %.
5. In selected cases,
Prorektor ds. kształcenia i studentów (Vice-Rector for
Instruction and Students) may agree to have the payment deadline extended
or the payment made in installments, separately for each academic year or
even a semester.
6. In case of difficult financial circumstances of an individual foreigner or if he/she
takes up studies in another field of study or another form of paid instruction,
Prorektor ds. kształcenia i studentów (Vice-Rector for Instruction and
Students) may, at the student's request, decrease the tuition or even exempt
him/her from it in full. An appropriate application has to be made directly to
Prorektor ds. kształcenia i studentów (Vice-Rector for Instruction and
Students).

VII Insurance
Osoby nie będące obywatelami polskimi mogą być przyjmowane na studia jeżeli:
Persons who are not Polish citizens may be admitted to studies if:
1. They have the European Health Insurance Card or an insurance policy against
illness and accidents for the time of their studies in Poland or they become
members of Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia (National Health Fund or NFZ) - this
applies to foreigners who are citizens of an EU or EFTA member state.

care within NFZ system during their temporary stay in Poland is available at:

2. they have an insurance policy against illness and accidents for the time of
their studies in Poland;
3. become NFZ members after being granted a permanent stay permit;
- it applies to foreigners who are not citizens of an EU of EFTA member state.
